We are pleased to present this 1999 Mercedes-Benz W140 S500 Grand Edition finished in Obsidian Black Metallic over a beige Nappa leather interior. Commemorating the end of production for the W140 series, only 600 Grand Edition examples were produced and are distinguished by unique features including 18” AMG Monoblock wheels, dark maple interior accents, illuminated stainless-steel door sills, and a power-operated rear sunshade. Showing approximately 88k miles on the odometer and with some considerable maintenance carried out in the last year, this 5.0 L V8-powered S500 has spent time in Nebraska, South Dakota, and Chicago and is now being offered by its owner out of New Jersey.
This W140’s Obsidian Black Metallic finish is described by the seller to be in very good original condition with only minor chips and scratches (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). Infrared-rejecting Stratos window tint has been applied and the seller also states that this sedan will be ceramic coated prior to sale. This S500 rides on Factory 18″ AMG Monoblock wheels that come dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires dated from 2017.
Inside, you will find a beige Nappa leather interior with recently refinished dark maple wood trim. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly and the cabin is reported to be in great shape. With an original MSRP of over $90k, this well-appointed S-class showcases dual-zone automatic climate control, power front seats, heated front and rear seats, a cassette stereo with a trunk-mounted CD changer, passenger privacy shades, and a powered rear sunshade. In 2020, the gear-shift bushing was replaced, and the front seat belt assemblies were repaired. The A/C regulator for the blower motor was recently replaced as well.
Power comes from a naturally aspirated 5.0 L M119 engine that is capable of producing 315 HP. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed automatic transmission. Recent maintenance carried out in 2020 is said to have included an oil service, replacement of the drive belt, tensioner, and idler pulley as well as the full overhauling of the brakes and suspension. This S-class is reported to be in excellent driving condition with no outstanding maintenance items.
Included in the sale of this W140 are three keys, a collection of service records, factory literature, and Grand Edition memorabilia. If you are in search of a collectible vintage Mercedes, this rare Grand Edition S-class is certainly worthy of consideration.
