Available for auction at no reserve is this 1999 Mercedes-Benz W140 S600 finished in Black over a Black Exclusive Nappa Leather interior. The range-topping model of Mercedes' flagship luxury car, the S600 came equipped with a 6.0L V12 engine,  Adaptive Damping System (ADS) active suspension, and heated seats front and rear. Having commanded an original sticker price of over $137k, this final year example was acquired from the prior owner's estate in 2015 and has been driven sparingly during summer months by the current owner ever since. Recently serviced with a new battery, power steering pump, hub carrier bushings, and more, this S600 is now being offered for auction out of Illinois showing approximately 141k miles on the odometer.

This S600 comes finished in Black and sports chrome trim, xenon headlamps, soft-closing doors and trunk, power-folding mirrors, and factory 16″ Ronal alloy six-spoke wheels. The car has reportedly been kept in a climate-controlled building throughout the current ownership and never subjected to winter driving conditions. Some chips on the hood have been touched up, the front and rear bumpers have been refinished, and the windshield was replaced several years ago. The wheels have also been refinished and dressed in a set of Sumitomo tires, additional photos can be found in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a CARFAX report showing minor front-end damage in 2019.

The cabin comes trimmed in Black Exclusive Nappa Leather with burl walnut wood inlays on the steering wheel, dashboard, center console, and door panels. Amenities include sound-insulating double-paned glass, Multi-contour heated front seats with lumbar support and memory function, heated rear seats, an electric sunroof, a Bose sound system, a power-adjustable steering column, and an electric rear sunshade. The original radio remains in place and the seller reports all features and accessories to be working properly apart from the headlight wipers and some intermittent issues driver seat position switch (forward and backward). Some minor damages and signs of wear are depicted in the gallery.

Power comes from a 6.0L M120 V12 which produced up to 389 HP and 420 lb-ft of torque when new. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed automatic gearbox. The W140 S600 features a hydropneumatic Adaptive Damping System (ADS), which adjusted the damping level of the shock absorbers to help stabilize the car. Service carried out in preparation for sale included a Mobile 1 oil change, a new power steering pump, rear hub carrier bushings, a new transmission mount, and battery.

This sale will include the original window sticker, owner's manuals, multiple keys, and a clean title. Among the most expensive and highly exclusive luxury cars of its day, this V12-powered S600 now offers an incredible value.

@Tuttebenne Mobil 1 oil and filter change every 3000 miles under my stewardship.

  • Tuttebenne 2 years, 2 monthsago

The W140 is arguably the high water mark for Mercedes Benz. Although any "S" class comes with a bit of complexity, the W140 is very solid from an engineering perspective. They don't tolerate deficient service however. Annual fluid changes are essential to ensure many years of rewarding ownership. The bids at this time are currently drawing S320 money. When do the serious bidders show up?

Well, the final hours of this magnificent car are upon and this S600 will have a new home. Though I will be busy at work, I'll have this auction up to answer any questions. A thought that comes to mind. The current bid though appreciated is roached out (fill in the blank) money. This car listed for $140,000 22 years ago! Average annual mileage is less than 7000 miles per year. Fly in, drive home. It's that solid and reliable.

@Doc18015 The oil is minor. honestly I've never had a drop on the floor. It may have been caused by the power steering pump being replaced. Never had a drop on the concrete floor. Don't know what else to tell you.

seller: please look at picture #114.....thanks

  • hhaleblian (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

@Doc18015 There is no major oil leak. The car can sit for a month without a drop of oil on the floor

  • Doc18015 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

Looks to have a major oil leak under the engine...is that just the pic or is it the rear main seal? Maybe the seller can comment. Otherwise, this is a very nice example, well-kept and with presence.

Greetings to All. A little background on myself and the S600. I'm a 70 year old car nut since damn near birth. It's been my mission to reduce my collection of 30+ cars to something more manageable thus the sale of the S600. The car has been pampered its entire life. It was owned from new by my friends wealthy mother. After mom passed I bought the car. Mom and the car wintered in Florida, summered in northern Illinois. It has never been exposed to snow or salt always stored indoors. My wife and I used the car for long trips only. It's a beautiful driving and handling car. I assimilate it to driving your sofa. It's quiet, smooth, simply a delight on long trips. 20 mpg cruising between 70-80 mph. The paint as original except for the front and rear bumper that I had refinished (thus the "minor accident" report". The stone chips on the hood have been touched up. Other than that the paint is damn near perfect. Everything works on the car, but there are two weird issues. The switch for the driver seat won't allow the seat to go forward but it will go back. The pre program button allows the seat to move forward. My guess is the contacts of the switch need to be cleaned or replaced. The seat motor works fine. The air pump under the rear seat will run longer than what I feel is typical. Those are the only issues I'm aware of. I did have my Mercedes mechanic go through the car in preparation of the sale. I would not hesitate to drive this car cross country. When one considers this car cost $140k 23 years ago, it's a lot of car for the money., even by todays standards The Maybach of its day. I'm happy to answer all questions honestly and openly. Someone is going to get a great car.
