Porsche’s original water-cooled 911, this 1999 Carrera Coupe is a first-generation 996 featuring a traditional cable-actuated throttle for its 3.4-liter flat-six engine. It comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a Boxster Red Special Leather interior and is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, 18” Turbo Look wheels, the Digital Sound Package, Traction Control with ABD, metal door sill model insignias, and more. This 996 remained with its original caretaker up until 2017 and was acquired by the seller from its second owner in 2021. Showing under 30k miles and supported by a lifetime of maintenance records including an IMS bearing upgrade, this Carrera is now being offered for auction out of New Jersey.

This Coupe is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and features optional 18” light alloy Turbo Look wheels with colored Porsche-crested center caps. Equipment includes a speed-activated rear spoiler, electric sliding sunroof, headlamps with integrated fog lights, and dual exhaust outlets. The finish is described to be in nearly perfect overall condition apart from one small chip on the front bumper and some delamination at the lower passenger-side corner of the windshield. The factory wheels are mounted with Continental ExtremeContact tires from 2016. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin showcases Boxster Red Special Leather upholstery with matching carpets, floor mats, and power-operated seats. Optional equipment includes metal door sill model insignias, an onboard computer, and Digital Sound Package. The Carrera is also equipped as standard with power/heated side mirrors, automatic climate control, a central locking system, and AM/FM stereo.

A naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. Stopping power comes from 4-piston fixed alloy brakes with cross-drilled rotors at each corner. This Carrera also features an optional traction control system with an Automatic Braking Differential (ABD). A lifetime of maintenance records accompanies the sale including an invoice for an upgraded LN Engineering IMS bearing in 2014, new spark plugs and coils in 2018, and an oil and filter change in February 2022.

This sale will include the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, service records, and a clean title.

@FXRcR1 100% correct. The OG bearing never needed to be replaced. In fact replacing creates more risk if installed incorrectly but this one is good to go.

@FXRcR1 We could also discuss that less than 8% of the bearing actually fail and how many have never actually been replaced and this one has been replaced with a dual row LN Engineering Bearing which is the replacement of choice.

The receipt in picture 225 references part# 106-08-4, which is a retrofit bearing having a recommended useful life of 6 years or 75k miles. In this case, the 6 years having already passed. I don't see any part number referring to the solution which is the permanent fix. It would seem the IMS is due to be replaced again, if you want to be abundantly cautious. Of course, you could rightly argue the original bearing probably didn't need replacing with this being a 99, and the replacement dual row probably doesn't either.

Point being, it's not technically the "solution" as installed per the receipt.

@Stef.alvarez According to the service records that were done by Porsche of Nashua, the upgraded and recommended LN Engineering Double Row Bearing Kit was installed on March 25, 2015, at 17,812 miles. this is the upgraded and recommended permanent repair and was done by a Porsche Dealer. As it is clear, I was not the owner of the car at the time and did not commission the work performed, but being done at a factory Porsche Dealership, I am sure it was done correctly.

According to the part number on one of the service docs this looks to have the IMS permanent solution, but photos from under the car show the standard oil filter. Can you confirm if it’s the permanent one? Otherwise that service might need to be redone. Thanks!

FWIW, I have to say that I actually prefer the design of the 996.1 cars to the 996.2. I prefer the less bulky nose and have never been the least bit concerned that it shares the same front end as the Boxster.
Besides that, you have no idea just how good all 996s are until you drive one. They are still unquestionably the sweet spot in Carrera pricing.

@luis.seneriz Thanks for reaching out. It is picture #152. On this car it is not on the door sill but located on the backside of the driver door itself. Production is 12/98. I hope that helps.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

A picture of the manufacturing date on the driver side door sill would be appreciated. Trying to see if it is an early car.
