Up for auction is this extremely low-mileage 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe 6-speed. This example is finished in Silver Metallic and is stated to be in completely original condition. Covering just 10k miles since new, this true time capsule is being offered for the first time ever by the family of the original owner.
This Silver finish on this Carrera is stated to be in excellent garage-kept condition as one would expect from such a low-mileage example. The seller notes that there are no modifications on this car whatsoever. This example rides on factory 17" alloy twist wheels that come wrapped in Continental tires with good tread life remaining.
This Carrera sports a Graphite Grey partial leather interior that is described to be in showroom condition. As seen in the photo gallery, the seating shows to be hardly used and all surfaces are reminiscent of a brand-new vehicle. The seller reports that all the switches, gauges and electrics are fully functional. A few interior features include a 6-speed manual transmission, Nokia DSP (Digital Sound Processing) audio system, 6-disc CD changer, and a board computer.
This 996 retains its original 3.4L flat-six engine that produces approximately 296HP and 285 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a desirable 6-speed manual transmission. Thanks to the dual row IMS bearing, the 1999 model is said to not share the failure concerns with the 2000-2005 model years. Only requiring basic maintenance throughout its life, the seller states that the vehicle is in excellent running and driving condition, and that the engine has recently received a service including new fluids and filters and stands in excellent running condition.
The sale of this stunning 996 will include all factory books, service records, one key, and a clean Carfax report. If you have been waiting for a collector-grade and true survivor first generation 996, this is the opportunity you have been waiting for.

@Jgeorge Thank you for the response. It's really a beautiful car. That is the only flaw from what I can tell. Best of luck.

@2porscheNaBenz Give the seller a break? It's buyer beware so if someone notices something on a photo that was not disclosed and might not be seen by others, I don't see an issue with that. Have a look at photo #49 of the inside of the hood up near the latch. Looks like someone tried to pry open the front hood. Not easily seen in the photo. Also notice in photo #39 that the rear deck release lever is broken off which might explain why in photo #52 the emergency hood release cable is hanging out of the left rear tail light housing. Just saying since we are using terms like"time capsule", excellent condition" and "collector grade". While all these may be true, full disclosure is fair play

@r3drov3r it is a really minor blemish. There was a issue with the hood latch. The latch was fixed 4 years ago, but the owner didn’t want to paint the front bumper.

@2porscheNaBenz yes. Obviously something happened. I was asking what that might be. How about we wait and see if the seller has an explanation before you jump in.
@r3drov3r no its not but its pretty self-explanatory that something must have been wedged in and caused a minor imperfection.
@2porscheNaBenz Just asking for some information. I think that is perfectly normal for anyone looking over the vehicle. It is certainly not out of line to ask such a question.
@r3drov3r ok but I m curious to what you think could have "happened"
its a 21 year old car that maybe has a few imperfections, lets give the seller a break. New cars are available at the dealer for $100k more and they won't have the tiny mark on the bumper :-)
@2porscheNaBenz No. If you zoom into the front hood where it meets the bumper there are two indentations in the top of the bumper. Looks like something was forced or shut between.
@r3drov3r are you talking about that tiny mark on the rear bumper?
Is there any explanation for what happened to the front bumper ?
Bid in the amount of $23,500
@Drstevens Portland, OR
@flat6rfixr Never mind, I can see there is a little lingering damage on the front bumper cover when zooming in on your photos of the front bumper area
What a time capsule. Where is car location?
Bid in the amount of $22,750
@Jgeorge FYI all Porsche M96 and M97 engines from 1997-2008 have the potential for failure of the IMS bearing.
What has happened with the front hood near the latch? Looks like someone tried to force open the hood at the latch with a prybar or something. Wondering if the front bumper cover has been repaired or replaced as a result?
Please post the complete service records mentioned in the write up.
Bid in the amount of $22,500
@rhmoritz FYI the 99 models have the dual-row bearing and the issue is with the single row that came after mid-year 2000. If you buy the car budget a few bucks to do some routine service like any good caretaker would. As an owner of a similar-grade example I must say that this is a stunning coupe and seems to be a true time-capsule.
@rhmoritz the 1999 did not have the IMS issue.
@Jgeorge Thank you for the quick response. Porsche recommends an annual oil service. If oil was changed at 3K intervals, how many were completed? This is critical for addressing potential IMS issues. Was the car dealer serviced? What is the date stamp on the tires? Any issues with the air/oil separator? Was a PPI completed?
@rhmoritz there are a few service records.
@rhmoritz the tires are not the original set.
@rhmoritz IMS has not been replaced. No paint work. No accidents.
@JamesHillegas the oil was changed every 3000 miles. This car did not sit. It was driven periodically.
@rhmoritz Also, with only 10k miles how many or how frequent was oil and fluids changed? Was this car run routinely or did it sit for long periods?
Service records available? IMS/RMS replaced? Any oil leaks? Original tires? Any paint work or accidents?
Thanks.

@Jgeorge, beautiful car and great pictures.
A great car. Just sold my ‘99 coupe after 8 years of fun driving. Rock solid. This one will make someone a proud owner at a reasonable price.
The earlier the 996, the better imo. I love the amber signals and 17" wheels. Such an understated car.
