This 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera has been fitted with a 6.0L LS2 V8 sourced from a 2005 Chevrolet Corvette and mated to a Porsche G96 6-speed manual transmission. The replacement engine is rebuilt and upgraded with a Summit Racing 8707R1 camshaft, Comp Cams 918 springs, lapped valves, LS3 injectors, Stuttgart Muscle motor mounts, a C5 Corvette fuel pressure regulator, and Chevrolet Camaro exhaust manifolds. The transmission was coupled to the engine using a Stuttgart Muscle adapter and has been fitted with a Spec Stage 2 clutch, a GBOX 2nd gear detent upgrade, and a ball bearing and spring detent fix. Wrapped in Riviera Blue vinyl over the factory Arctic Silver Metallic finish, this LS-powered Carrera is now being offered at auction by its seller out of Maryland.

The Arctic Silver Metallic finish was professionally wrapped in Riviera Blue vinyl within the last 100 miles. Equipment includes red brake calipers with white Porsche script, smoked front side markers, smoked taillights, and dual polished oval exhaust tips. The seller notes some imperfections and cracking in the paint were present before the vinyl wrap was applied, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The 18” OEM Turbo-look wheels are mounted with General G-MAX AS-05 tires with 2019 date codes.

The interior features power-adjustable heated seats trimmed in grey leather that are reported to have been re-dyed under previous ownership. Accessories include a carbon fiber shift knob, a carbon fiber Porsche-branded handbrake handle, an Alpine iLX head unit connected to four Kicker 46CSC44 speakers and a Sound Ordinance B-8PTD power subwoofer, a re-wrapped leather steering wheel, a C5 Corvette gas pedal, a power sunroof, automatic climate control, and Carrera-branded door sill guards.

A Corvette-sourced 6.0L LS2 V8 sends power to the rear wheels through a Porsche G96 6-speed manual transmission, which has been fitted with a Stuttgart Muscle adapter kit, a Spec Stage 2 clutch, a GBOX 2nd gear detent upgrade, and a ball bearing and spring detent fix. The engine has been rebuilt with a new rear main seal, head gasket, oil pan gasket, spark plugs/wires, main bearings, cam bearings, rod bearings, piston rings, valve seals, coolant hoses, and a new water pump and alternator. Modifications include a Summit Racing 8707R1 camshaft, Comp Cams 918 springs, lapped valves, an LS3 starter and fuel injectors, Stuttgart Muscle motor mounts, a C5 Corvette fuel pressure regulator, 2010 Chevrolet Camaro exhaust manifolds with 2.5” tubing to Magnaflow catalytic converters, an electric power steering conversion with a Volvo power steering pump, an AEM wideband air/fuel controller, a new AGM battery, and a Corvette A/C compressor with custom lines, new A/C condensers, and new A/C expansion valve. The suspension includes H&R lowering springs with Koni Special Active shocks, new inner and outer tie rods, lower control arms, coffin arms, and new wheel bearings. The brake calipers have also been rebuilt and fitted with Powerstop brake pads and rotors along with new OEM Porsche brake lines. The seller reports an intermittent check engine light for the mass airflow sensor due to fluctuating vacuum pressure caused by the upgraded camshaft.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a battery charger, some service documents, and a clean title.

Rad car and great videos. Don’t see too many ls swapped porches coming up. Looks and sounds like a sorted car. Although I’m Not sure if you can call this thing a “true sleeper.”

@950-44647Oh the car was switched from e40 PCM to e38 PCM, and as part of that conversion it needed a change to a 58x reluctor. It has a VSS signal board that allows the PCM to property deal with idle and DFCO conditions (most 911 swaps do not have this), a time delay relay on the electric power steering pump to avoid voltage spikes at startup that can cause the PCM to have issues and an arduino mini that sniffs out the signal from the Porsche AC button and drives the compressor so the HVAC acts just like stock.

  • 950-44647Oh (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Does this use a GM engine management or aftermarket unit, and is it tunable?

  • JDMX274 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@Hotride The OE M96 engine and the LS2 weigh within +/- 5-10 lbs of each other, both weighing ~ 440lbs. fully dressed. The LS2 conversion adds ~ 120hp to the drivetrain, in a car that weighs 3K lbs. That changes the pwer to weight ratio from 10lbs/1hp to ~7lbs/1hp, so the driving dynamics are most noticably changed by the increased torque and hp, not a change in weight. the swap was done under prior ownership and I would be happy to pass on the contact info for the mechanic who performed the swap if you are fortunate to win the auction. Maintenance and servicing are a breeze, as accessability is good from anove and below the engine. The LS2 is a simple and reliable powertrain, no more IMS bearing failure to worry about.

  • Hotride (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Do you know what the weight difference is between the original engine and this one?
How was the handling affected by this?
Was the swap done under your ownership?
Any comments on maintenance difficulty or ease and accessibility would be appreciated as well.

I like this - great color wrap and dependable drivetrain. Watching closely and figuring out how to register in California.

  • ee40300 (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Any photos of car before the wrapped was applied. Thanks for the under side photos.

Love the LS2 swap. This would be a good "Stealth" Porsche. No one would know what's lurking in the rear engine compartment.

  • JDMX274 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@ee40300 A/C has just been fully reconditioned and blows cold. I will get the car on a lift in the next few days and post underside pics. Thank you for your interest.

  • JDMX274 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@InsatiableAmos Agreed, it is a sleeper for sure.

  • ee40300 (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

With the numbers of years in the "salt belt" please supply photos of the underside. Does the AC work?

  • InsatiableAmos (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

I love that you retained the original exhaust tips! No signs of what's in store for unsuspecting onlookers...or competitors.

Love the wrap in the car. I already have a 3.4 early 99 coupe and a 500 hp 03 turbo. This one would fit right in between. It sounds awesome. I
Honestly need more garage space we already have 5 cars.

  • JDMX274 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Here is a fun combination of American V8 power and the iconic and unique rear engined 911 chassis. If it were a movie, it would be called “When Harley met Sally”. I know purists will scoff at it, but to that I say, don’t judge it until you drive it. Seriously though, here is a well executed swap that has been thoroughly gone over and is 100% ready to be driven and enjoyed. Thanks to PCarMarket for hosting this auction. Best of luck to our bidders and please reach out with any questions. I pledge to respond as quickly and as thoroughly as possible. Most importantly, this car is an absolute blast to drive!
