Ushering the Porsche 911 into the new millennium, the 996 represented the most significant change for the model with the introduction of a new water-cooled engine. This 1999 example carries the first-generation 3.4-liter flat-six with a traditional cable-driven throttle and a 6-speed manual transmission. It was ordered in Arena Red Metallic over a Graphite Grey leather interior along with the optional Power Seat Package and exclusive metal door sill model insignias. Cared for by two prior owners and fortified with a replacement IMS bearing, this 996 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Michigan showing under 21k miles on the odometer.

This Carrera was ordered in Arena Red Metallic, a desirable paint color of the 1990s made famous by the 993 Turbo. Factory equipment includes a speed-activated rear spoiler, headlamps with integrated fog lights, an electric sliding sunroof, and 17” 996 Twist wheels with colored Porsche crest center caps. The car rides on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires from 2015. The seller states the car has always been garage kept under the care of mature owners and was never subjected to track use. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with premium Graphite Grey full leather upholstery including optional heated and power-operated seats with adjustable lumbar support. Other options include metal door sill model insignias, Graphite Grey floor mats, an onboard computer, and Hi-Fi Sound Package. An upgraded Pioneer head unit was installed by the previous owner. The driver is also supplied with automatic climate control, power-heated side mirrors, a lockable storage compartment, a central locking system, and heated windshield washer nozzles.

Producing up to 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque, the naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine drives the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The car is said to have been primarily maintained by local Porsche specialist Euro AutoWerk where the IMS bearing was replaced along with the cam plugs, crankshaft seal, spark plugs, and brake fluid under the prior owner’s care. Corresponding maintenance records are available, and an oil change is said to have been completed in 2022.

This sale will include a clean title as well as the original window sticker and owner’s manuals.

@Mercyhealth. The build sticker says 11/98. The early car car cutt off is either August or September. This car did not came ambers. Also if I recall correctly there was a factory fire in May of that year. Anyway most of the engine blocks and components where utilized after proper cleaning but some of those are definitely more prone to failure. Yes all model year 99 have cable throttle as long as they are Carrera 2, carrera 4 have e throttle. the early cars, some actually last few months 97 had a lot more human supervision where built better because they were built next to the lasts of the 993. There is a you tube video where Jake Raby FSI is interviewed and states all of the different reasons. Based on everything I have seen and read, not all model year 911 996s where created equally. I have a 3/98, if I was looking for an early car my cutt off date would be 5/98 builts, get 408s, the upgraded radio, aero kit if you can find them . I prefer a ducktail instead of the taco wing and this also removes weight from the car. I prefer a super strong reliable car, to one that looks great, I also prefer higher mileage cars with a bunch of maintenance instead of garage queens. This one is sure a pretty car.

@luis.seneriz are you sure this is not an early build? Has cable throttle and sparkle plastic. No ambers but they could have been replaced.

Btw write up says heated seats. I don’t see them pic 90. Nonetheless great car with low miles and owners. We should see this one go higher!

I know this dealer - purchased a Jag XJR from him in 2022. Very reputable and represents both Buyers and Sellers well.

  • garagekept (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@alland good eye. Yes, there is a small vertical ding in the passenger door and yes, there is some curb rash on the outer rim of the rear passenger wheel.

Is that a dent/ding in picture 16 (passenger door) and road rash (wheel) in picture 61? Thank you

  • garagekept (seller) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Brentb458 yes, the IMS has been addressed. See picture 179 for the receipt.

@Antojado : a very common issue on these - "frunk" and hood struts are available online from multiple sources

  • Brentb458 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Ims bearing an issue on these? if so, is there documentation that it’s been fixed. Thanks.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Hood and engine bay shocks are cheap and easy to replace. Buy them from Fcp euro and you get a lifetime warranty.

  • Antojado 1 year, 2 monthsago

@luis.seneriz there are several stickers missing from the trunk lid. Perhaps the owner didn’t like them and took them off, but it could indicate that the hood was repainted or replaced due to damage.

  • Antojado 1 year, 2 monthsago

@f1skibum the strut may need to be replaced.

  • f1skibum (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

pic 24 and 25. Why the big stick holding the "trunk"?

  • AlanSD114 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Marshmlow I watched the video, no scratch seen.love the car

  • Marshmlow 1 year, 2 monthsago

Check out picture 26. The passenger side looks flawless from that angle and distance. Great picture btw!

  • Marshmlow 1 year, 2 monthsago

@AlanSD114 thanks for the reply. Picture 14 is simply a reflection of the facility. I don't see any scrape or scratch there.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've poured over all the pictures and the video and I don't see any major scratch or scrape anywhere. Also, @garagekept confirmed that there are no severe scrapes or scratches. It's simply the reflections.

I have an Arena Red 1999 C2. Wonderful car. Just turned 65,000 miles with no problems in the 8 years I have owned it. Tracked it several times and have no trouble running with newer 911's (not Turbo or GT3 of course) or Cayman/Boxter (again, not GT4). The lighter weight makes a big difference. The '99's have a two row IMS bearing with no problems. Buy this car and enjoy it! It deserves more miles!!

  • Jimbo1907 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@BVC500 , right, there is nothing in the descriptions about it, and to me it appears to be reflections.

  • BVC500 1 year, 2 monthsago

I think the first poster jumped to conclusions about the scrape, rather than asking first whether it was a scrape or reflections.

Id bid if this was a tiptronic, cant do manuak anymore, sadly.but so it goes

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Any explanations why the car doesn’t have the built sheet sticker in the frunk lid? A shame that it’s not an early car. IMO arena it’s a lot nicer than guards red. GLWTA

  • audios22 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Marshmlow pic 62, 63 & 68. it may be a reflection of the background but it sure looks like a deep scratch. maybe a netter pic?

    Thanks

  • Fellscreek (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@Marshmlow It was pointed out in a previous comment. I can’t tell what is a scrape or glare from all the light reflection on many of the inside photos.

  • Einsteiger 1 year, 2 monthsago

With this mileage, the car is dang near a museum piece. I've got a '99 - this one would definitely be worth having.

  • Marshmlow 1 year, 2 monthsago

@audios22 @Fellscreek @AlanSD114 I'm having a really hard time finding the scrape/scratch. In what picture is it visible in? Thanks in advance

  • AlanSD114 1 year, 2 monthsago

imhop one could buff the scratch out,it will take patience butI have done similar scratches starting with 1500 grit and ending with good polish on a machine. It seems to be fixable.I havethis same color in my 986 S.

  • Fellscreek (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

Can you send clearer pic of pass side scrape. Can’t determine what is light reflection and what os scrape. Thanks.

  • audios22 (registered bidder) 1 year, 2 monthsago

@garagekep this color combination is one of my favorites. nicely maintained example. A shame about the passenger side scrape. Is that to be addressed prior to wining bid? or, I could also assume that it's the winner's responsibility to get the car re-painted. probably about a $3-4K job if they can just paint the passenger side only. mechanically, the car appears to be very straight.
