Now up for auction is this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a Metropol Blue leather interior. This low-mileage 6-speed example features upgraded Porsche Tequipment wheels, GT3-style rocker flares, and a Turbo-style front bumper. Previously sold on PCARMARKET with approximately 1k miles driven since, this well-maintained 996 is now being offered by its seller in New York with just over 38k miles currently showing on the odometer.
The Arctic Silver Metallic finish is said to be in very nice condition except for a small scratch on the front hood and passenger-side mirror. Detailed images and paint meter readings are provided in the photo gallery. This example has been fitted with an aftermarket Turbo-style front bumper, GT3-style rocker flares, and upgraded Porsche Tequipment Sport Classic II wheels.
Inside, this 996 is appointed with a Metropol Blue interior that compliments the exterior finish beautifully. The interior is reported to be in very nice original condition with all gauges and accessories remaining fully functional, although the seller reports that the airbag warning light needs to be reset. This first-generation 996 is equipped with a 3.4 L flat-six engine that is capable of sending 296 HP and 285 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a desirable 6-speed manual transmission. This 3.4 L Carrera is especially desirable for its dual-row IMS bearing that eliminates the need for costly upgrade kits often required on later versions. All routine maintenance is said to be up to date and a new battery was installed within the last year under the current ownership.

@Vetman001 what I was told by previous owner was that windshield was replaced. That was the damage. It has a replaced windshield.

@Gregory Yes, and I guess I lied a little bit. When I first started looking at P-car's in general, I was looking at 944's. That was about 4 years ago. Again, from my observation, they have almost doubled in value since then. Crazy.
Agree, these cars have reached their depreciation bottom. They were un-liked because of their looks, headlights and narrow bodies. But now as the cars around them are going up in price, they are being recognized for good driving experience and value. Cars like this, better IMS, tasteful (my opinion) body upgrades and wheels and low mileage will jump up in value first.
Remember 964's -they were unloved for a long time. I bought one for $16 and drove it as a daily driver for 6 yrs and sold it for $25 just a few years ago (with over 150k miles on it, no engine work) - now you can't get a 964 for $25K
@cormican yeah, looks like the bargain ship has sailed. Although, a cab tiptronic can still be had for pretty cheap. Wonder if those will tick up as well. Past 8 months feels like fomo buying in the 996.
@bkspeed Absolutely. I have been monitoring the market for the past 3 years in anticipation of buying my 1st 911 (purchased ‘05 997 this past July). I really focused on 996/997’s, and glanced at affordable 991’s at times (base models). Now, I haven’t built a spreadsheet or anything, so what I am about to say is purely based off of my observation/recollection. The 996’s were bottomed out when I first started looking. They have rapidly increased over the past 12-18 months. 3 years ago you could find a ‘decent’ 996 for ~$14K. Now a high mileage rough one can be hard to find for under $20K. I should note that my resources were/are Autolist (pulls most of the online predominantly dealer websites [Autotrader, etc.]), Rennlist/PCA, and even FB Marketplace. Prices fluctuate across all of these different platforms, but one thing is constant. The 996 increases in price.

11 months ago this car sold for $19,200. Same car was listed for sale on Facebook for $26k as recently as last week. Have 996 values really increased 36% in a year?
@Spooky7640 I've had some time to connect with two Porsche shops that I know very well. The consensus is that the dual bearing definitely has a lower failure rate than the later bearing design of other 996's but still somewhat of a concern. I think I would do the IMS anyway on this car also. It's way too nice of a car to have it fail.
@jrocco1971 so I’ve done some research and not all 99 996 are created equal. Not sure if I’m allowed to send links but if you look it up. 99 996s did come with the better bearing. This one was sold to me with the dual bearing. Thanks guys for checking the car out. Best of both worlds. Modern with that old school feel. Happy bidding.
@jrocco1971 see picture 76 there is no oil leakage at the lower base of the bell housing. So no obvious failure thus far. Does this mean the IMS needs mitigation? The buyer will have to decide. This is another beautiful example of the 996 for us to look at and bid on.
So...the answer is No then? It’s still got the original IMS bearing in it? Which at that low mileage seems highly likely but it’ll probably need to be replaced at some point no matter what if the new owner wants any peace of mind.

Perfect touring car. This 99 has the dual row ims bearing like its stated in the auction. I was told that when I purchased the car last year. That’s what made this 996 stand out for me, beside the color combo. Blue interior is great with the silver.
