Up for auction is this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe finished in Midnight Blue Metallic over a Savannah Beige interior.  Purchased by its current owner in 2015, this 6-speed factory limited-slip differential example has since been treated to several noteworthy upgrades including Agency Power headers and mufflers, an H&R coil-over suspension with Tarrett toe links, a K&N air intake, and genuine 5-spoke Porsche light-alloy wheels.  Having also undergone an IMS bearing upgrade and rear main seal replacement, this 996 is said to be in excellent running order, now being offered by its seller in Florida with just over 61k miles showing on the odometer.

The Midnight Blue Metallic finish is described by the seller to be in good original condition with some wear on the front end, and a scratch depicted on the left front bumper and upper driver’s side fender.  A ding on the passenger's door is also depicted, although the seller will have this professionally addressed before the next owner's purchase (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The rear "S" badge had been replaced at some point in the incorrect area, which may be easily removed and repsotioned. The rear spoiler accordion seal has been replaced, GT3 exhaust tips have been installed, and upgraded OEM Porsche 5-spoke light-alloy wheels have been equipped and dressed in new tires within the last 3k miles.  The factory Turbo-Look wheels will also accompany the sale; however, they are currently in the seller’s storage facility out of state and may require additional time to collect.

Inside, the Savannah Beige interior is reported to have been kept in very nice condition.  A digital oil temperature display has been installed and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional including the original radio. Factory options include a CD compartment and 8-way power seats with left seat position memory.

Representing the original water-cooled 911, this first-generation 996 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.4 L flat-six engine rated at 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque stock. Paired with a desirable 6-speed manual transmission featuring an optional limited-slip differential, this Carrera is capable of accelerating from 0-60 MPH in as little as 5 seconds.  Performance upgrades include headers and muffler from Agency Power, a K&N air intake, an H&R coil-over suspension with Tarrett toe links, an engine undertray, a spin-on oil filter with magnetic attachment, and a 160-degree thermostat.  An LN Engineering IMS bearing upgrade is said to have been installed under previous ownership and the seller had the rear main seal replaced along with an inspection of the clutch within the last 6k miles.  Other maintenance items carried out within the last 6k miles include new brake pads and rotors, new ignition coils, a fuel pump, drivetrain mounts, and fluid and filter changes.  A record of the current owner’s maintenance is included along with a collection of invoices, and this 996 is said to be in fantastic driving condition.

This sale will include 1 master key, an owner’s manual, service records, factory wheels, and a clean title.  If you are in search of the perfect driver’s 996, this tastefully upgraded and well-sorted 1999 example is not to be overlooked.

@Cboudak I don’t see it. There is a 2 conductor that runs from the DME harness under the rear shelf that carries the oil temperature signal to the display

Also what’s the wire running over the rear passenger seat?

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

I’ve also been asked whether the car has been detailed. It has been detailed regularly. All the leather has annually received Lexol cleaner and conditioner. The exterior has been clayed and compounded and then waxed regularly.

  • Cboudak (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

How long ago was suspension work done?

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

I ‘ve been asked whether everything in the car works . Everything inside and out and under works as it did when it left the showroom. Sunroof, AC, heat, ventilation, radio, windows, etc.

@MikeALO anyone can look up wheel specs on the internet. Your previous comment stating the wheels specs was stated as if it were fact. Not an advisable move as a seller. Are the tire specs you provided also from the internet?

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@zachlangan my bad....the wheels are front 8” et 50, rear 10” et 65. Photos being uploaded.
I used the internet for the wheel specs didn’t know they were also made with Boxster soec

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@zachlangan stand by I’ll check the widths

  • zachlangan (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Rennenmotorsport those wheels are from a 2003-2004 Boxster S. That wheel was only produced for the 911 with a 10" width.

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Cboudak no leaks of any kind. Manifold pressure checked with manometer. Air/oil separator has not been replaced

  • Cboudak (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Any leaks underneath? A/o separator done?

@kirkandorules to avoid any confusion the wheel/tire set up is:
    Front 225/40R18 on 18x7.7 et50
    Rear. 265/35R18 on 18x9 et52

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Matthew77 The ride is firm, not uncomfortable , instills a lot of confidence when stretching its legs. Turn in is dramatically improved with this set up , no lean at any where close to the limits .

  • GDLuxury 3 years, 3 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $11,500

  • Matthew77 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

I had a 2001 911 with a European suspension factory upgrade. Lowers the car 10mm and stuffer everything.

How is the ride? Body role etc?

  • kirkandorules (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Rennenmotorsport it's kinda hard to see, but in picture #47 the 225/40 R18 stamp is visible, which would be the normal front tire size

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Rennenmotorsport the rear camber is 2 degrees negative both lest and right. The wheels are factory 02 lightweights . In the rear there is about 15-20 mm space between the tire wall and fender lip either 265/35-18 Yokohama’s . I’d use caution adding a spacer. The H&R lowers the car about 1” when you set spec ride height. In doing so the spec rear toe cannot be achieved. The Tarrett adjustable toe link gets the toe back where it’s specified ( and saves significant tire wear)

  • Rennenmotorsport (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Regarding the wheels and suspension settings - is that a square setup with all wheels the same width? Looks like the rears could use spacers or perhaps it’s the rear camber settings...

@Cboudak the cats are original to the car. There is no check engine light shown in the dash.

  • Cboudak (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@MikeALO I can’t the products for exhaust on agency website, likely no longer being produce. If headers were changed then likely cats were as well making the car no smoggable/registerable in the great state of California. Original exhaust included? It a deal breaker per se but something that would need to be addressed by CA buyers

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Cboudak I am not aware of any disclaimer for use in California . There is nothing on the company’s documentation which would indicate “not for use” there.

  • Cboudak (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Is the exhaust CARB approved for California?

  • PCARMARKET 3 years, 3 monthsago

@MikeALO It is not just banter. I commonly see grit on the clean side of K&N intakes. They are junk.

I guess this means you do not have the original parts? Thanks

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@springer3 Original air intake is available. yeah I hear the banter about K&N. You can’t tell any difference when driving. And if you looking to clean up the engine compartment and give yourself a lot more room it is an upgrade

  • springer3 3 years, 4 monthsago

  • springer3 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Is the original air intake available? K&N is not an upgrade. Thanks

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@URS6 I was not aware. The car has never been on the track according to previous owners. But just driving on the street The addition of the H&R suspension has made a dramatic improvement to turn in over the stock set up and the exit as well no doubt helped by LSD.

  • URS6 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@MikeALO thanks for pointing that out. I missed that pic, but according to that sticker it does have LSD, option code 220. Thank you for the quick reply.

  • FirstFlatSix 3 years, 4 monthsago

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@URS6 the car does not have GT3 adjustable front control arms

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@URS6 I’ll do my best with underside photos... no lift in my garage down here

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@URS6 I cannot verify that the car has LSD, I have asked Pcarmarket to take that down twice unless they know something I don’t . The option codes are shown underside of front lid photo . This car is just a sweet unencumbered 2 wheel drive coupe modified for spirited driving (not track)

  • URS6 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Also, do you have the option codes or something to verify that the car does have a LSD? Thanks again!

  • URS6 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

Nice looking 996. Could we get some pictures of the underside please? Suspension upgrades, drop links and headers? Does it have the GT3 adjustable front lower control arms by chance? Thanks!

  • tsiblo 3 years, 4 monthsago

@kjkaley Bingo! I knew it had to be there somewhere...
At least you know it was replaced...
You may want to check with the shop...they may have the records...
Definitely one less headache the new owner will have to worry about...

  • kjkaley (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@energyof2 and @tsiblo - Gents, check out picture #42. There is a IMSR6638 sticker just above the tire pressure schematic. I tried to look up the sticker # as well as the last 6 of the VIN on the IMS website but no luck. It may not have been registered. When I had mine replaced, I had the responsibility of sending in all the info, not the repair shop however they gave me all the info, parts, etc.. to do so.

Terrific looking color combo on this car. GLWTA.

  • energyof2 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@tsiblo Understand. Last shop was the reputable Steinel's in Ohio with my Cayman S. No sticker. Before that was my 2001 996 in Michigan. Both came with receipts and details. I agree though.

  • tsiblo 3 years, 4 monthsago

@energyof2 From my experience and a few others I know - the sticker comes with the bearing - it is up to the installer to add it to the car, etc. whether it is a dealer or indie shop, etc.
    Definitely a selling point...

  • energyof2 (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@tsiblo Good point on IMS sticker..but having had 3 cars where IMS is an issue the Indies in my cases do not. All receipts are provided but not necessarily stickers. I am looking at one tmrw live and will see if there is one.

  • tsiblo 3 years, 4 monthsago

@MikeALO Thanks for the info and fast reply...

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Cboudak I have no info on the detector. I never used it. It was installed by previous owner. It is the type were the emitter/receiver is placed in the front bumper or attached to license plate frame. Florida has no front plate, I removed it. The unit can be reinstalled.

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@tsiblo I added the S to the rear deck. The work to visually check the IMS and replace the RMS and check the clutch was done by a Porsche Indy shop (TomFlorio, Advance Auto) . I was told it was the IMS with a 40,000 mile warranty . I don’t recall seeing a inventory sticker . The shop that replaced the IMS is noted in the Carfax

  • tsiblo 3 years, 4 monthsago

Nice looking...the rear badge has an "S" on it? is this something you added? I didn't think that this year model was available in an "S" model...
In addition - the installer of the LN Engineering IMS bearing puts on a sticker with an inventory number in the rear hatch somewhere in case of a failure - is there an image of it?

    Thanks...

    Tom

  • Cboudak (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@MikeALO ahh ok. What kind in radar detector? Does it do laser as well? Or is this a jammer?

  • MikeALO (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@Cboudak deal? Maybe you are referring to a radar detector controls and digital display of oil temperature? The 99 996 did not come with an oil temp gauge. I installed one.

  • Cboudak (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

What’s the deal with the gadgets and lights in the center stack?
