Up for auction at no reserve is this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera 4 Coupe finished in Basalt Black Metallic.  This 1999 example was acquired by the current owner about 9 years ago and has been continuously upgraded and tuned for track use with a rear-wheel-drive conversion and the installation of racing safety equipment, Bilstein PSS10 adjustable coilovers, a limited-slip differential, and a new 3.4L flat-six engine from Joe Anselmo Motorsports.  The owner drove this car throughout the years advancing PCA D.E. levels from instructed, to solo, to advanced, and developing into a PCA National Instructor.  A fine-tuned racer that can be driven to and from the track, this 996 bears just over 250 break-in miles on its new engine and is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Virginia.

This 996 is finished in Basalt Black Metallic and features GT3-style flared rocker panels, GT3 front brake ducts, removable Carrera logos on the lower rear quarter panels, and a sunroof delete by Piper Motorsport. The seller reports the clear paint protection film on the front end shows signs of age and wear, and reports several cosmetic imperfections throughout the exterior including door scratches and dings, scratches on the front bumper lip, and a small crack at the bottom edge of the left taillight.  Additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  The car rides on 18”x8.5” and 18”x10” Enkei NT03 wheels with 225/265 Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires, 92mm wheel studs, and racing lug nuts.  The tires are dated from 2014 and the seller states that ample tread remains.

Inside, the cabin has been mostly stripped out and fitted with a custom welded roll cage and fire suppression system by Piper Motorsport.  The dashboard, center console, climate control, and PCM unit have been retained, all airbags have been removed, and Sparco Evo2 racing seats were installed along with OMP 6-point safety harnesses, a quick-release MOMO steering wheel, an AIM antenna/GPS unit, and a 997 GT3 shifter.  The seller is currently in the process of replacing leaky high and low A/C valves as well as a recharge of the system.  The LCD climate control panel will also reportedly be replaced prior to sale.

This 996 was recently fitted with a newly built 3.4L flat-six engine from Joe Anselmo Motorsports of Newport Beach, CA.  This engine features a deep sump baffled oil pan, an LN Engineering IMS bearing upgrade, an EVOMS V-Flow air intake, and stainless steel muffler bypass pipes.  The original all-wheel-drive components were removed, although ABS and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) have been retained. The rear wheels are driven by way of an original 6-speed manual gearbox with an upgraded Porsche limited-slip differential, USP Motorsports 996/997 Numeric Racing Cup cables, and a Gbox detent.  The suspension has been upgraded with Tarett Engineering front control arms, Tarett Engineering solid ball joints, Tarett Engineering camber plates, Bilstein PSS10 adjustable coilovers, and 996 Turbo front and rear sway bars.  Stainless steel braided brake lines have been installed as well.  The new engine has reportedly been used for about 250 miles of street driving and the car has been serviced exclusively by Chapman Auto Werks of Sterling, VA since the owner’s purchase in 2012.  An extensive collection of records is said to accompany the sale.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals, a toolkit, spare tire, service records, and a branded title (not actual miles).  A perfect choice for any Porsche enthusiast looking to take their driving skills to the next level, this track-ready 996 Carrera is not to be overlooked.

I can second what the seller said. According to Joe this car can be anywhere between 325 to
335 hp. Also this car is strip out, which would make it even faster. My 3/98 with mods is somewhere between 315 to 318 hp. I can constantly hit 60 in 4.9 without killing the clutch. The only thing that has been removed from mine are the heavy mufflers (about 15 lb reduction). I got fab speed headers and exhaust.

@ragerard Yes, it is street legal. If you zoom in on one of the front pics, you will see the 4/22 VA safety inspection sticker. The car also passed emissions testing earlier this year, which is required in my county. That's why the cats are still on the car. Without the emissions requirement, I would have removed them.

For what it is worth I have driven in many PCA DEs in this car’s run group and it is an extremely well setup track car. I was always told I should find a car where someone else has borne all the expense to properly setup a car, but I didn’t listen. Now many years and many dollars later I have a great street/track 996. I can vouch that this 996 is the same.

  • Slash (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

Hi all...less than 24 hours left and I want to add a little something to spice things up a bit. Joe Anselmo is known to build quality motors that come with a "better than factory/stock" performance expectation. It's probably fair to expect that this motor will produce 330-335 bhp, a good bit juicier than the factory 3.4 @296/300 bhp. This car has not been Dyno'd so there is no concrete evidence, and there is no claim or warranty to any specific output numbers. This is just a reasonable expectation.

I have driven this car with the factory 3.4, a track oriented 3.8, and now this 3.4. I can say that this motor is impressive.

New video posted of launch and drive by. Remaining service items (climate control LCD and AC fittings and recharge) have been completed. Car is ready for a new home and some track exercise!

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Cboudak thanks. I was already told. This makes my car even more unique.

  • Slash (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

    @luis.seneriz that is correct

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Slash , just let me know if I get this right, Joe Anselmo build the engine, but it was for somebody else, then you got the engine? I spoke with Zoe for a while this afternoon, real nice guy.

  • Cboudak (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@luis.seneriz c4 was never throttle cable, only c2 and only 99

  • Slash (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

AC valve fittings replaced todayand system recharged... blowing nice and cold. Waiting for pic to be uploaded.

  • Slash (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

COMING SOON - 3 videos will be uploaded by Pcarmarket...one is showing the new climate control LCD after installation; one is a launch and drive by; one is a residential street and country road drive.

  • Slash (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

I am sure Joe could give you some general information about his motors but I doubt he'd be able to trace back to this one. He did not spec or build the motor for me.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Thanks for the response. I personally really love the 99’s. I test drove an 08 4s yesterday and I really didn’t like it. Anyway slash would you have any issues if I get in touch with joe Anselmo Motorsports. My only concern with my car 3/98 coupe is I just want a little more power. If you have a contact at Anselmo Motorsports let me know. Wish you all a great Sunday.

  • Slash (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

It is a C4, not a C4S. Apologies if I confused this by stating "all c4's", meaning that every C4 was electronic throttle control. This car has PSM, which uses/needs electronic throttle as one of the control components.

    Sorry if I confused anyone.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Slash if this a true 99, then it is a c4 not a C4S. I may be mistaken but based on what I know all early cars are throttle cable cars.

  • Slash (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

The 996 c4's were electronic throttle, as is this one. This has a fairly aggressive track oriented tune.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Is the throttle cable or egas?. Is the DME the original or the engine is manage by something else? Thanks for the reply to the previous. I’m also really involved in PCA stuff. Thanks

  • Slash (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Luis...this is what I have as to "build spec":

All new top quality parts. Upgraded oil pumps, JE pistons, reconditioned rods with full balance of crank, rods, pistons . All new upgraded case hardware

  • Slash (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Sorry...was logged into my other account (rgro6), but that response is actually from me.

  • rgro6 2 years, 8 monthsago

Hi Luis...thanks for the question and the bid. I am working on getting build specs. I did not spec the build myself. I was looking for a "stock" 3.4 with quality internals. I wanted the 996 to be able to head toward PCA Club Racing if the new owner had that intention.

Seller any specifics on the engine rebuilt. Like power adding goodies, head work etc. I own a 3/98 6 spd cp with Factory 408s. My car has 97500 miles on it. Really interested in engine rebuilt details. Thanks Luis in Texas.

Welcome to this auction of my 996 DE/track car. This car has served me well over my 9 years of ownership and driving. I have a second Porsche track car which is now the go-to for DE driving, which makes this 996 available for someone else to enjoy. As an instructor, I get to sample many models of Porsches on track, and as I do, I continue to come back to the 996 as a very capable transition model between the "classic" cars and the more modern cars. It offers just enough of the older car experience and adds the right amount of modern car capabilities.

I'll be here to answer questions as the auction process progresses.
