Produced in September of 1998 for the following model year, this early Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet comes generously optioned from the factory with extensive leather and carbon fiber trim throughout the cabin.  Acquired from a longtime owner in 2019, this 6-speed Carrera has since been carefully maintained and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Missouri showing approximately 40k miles on the odometer, accompanied by original factory accessories, owner’s manuals, and an uninstalled IMS bearing upgrade kit.

This 996 comes finished in Black with a matching cabriolet and rides on a set of aftermarket 19” three-piece wheels.  The Michelin Pilot Sport tires are dated from 2020, sized 235/35ZR19 in front and 265/30ZR19 in the rear.  The cabriolet top was reportedly serviced in 2019 and the car is said to have been garage-kept throughout the current ownership. Protective mesh screens have been added ahead of the front grilles. The car was recently detailed in preparation for auction and the seller notes a small crease on the front bumper as well as some wear on the edges of the doors and other scratches and touch-ups throughout the exterior.

The black interior includes optional supple leather seats as well as a leather-trimmed ignition surround, dashboard, and door panels.  Almost every exclusive carbon fiber trim option was selected including carbon air vent surrounds, door panel inserts, speaker covers, and a steering wheel with a leather Airbag module.  One small scratch is noted on the back of the driver’s seat as well as two small cracks on the carbon driver’s side air vent, scratches on the center console, and wear on top of the steering wheel.  The factory specifications label on the underside of the hood shows the following original equipment codes:

  • XJ4 – Leather Covered Ignition Surround
  • XKD – Carbon Side Air Vents
  • XKJ – Carbon Defroster Trim
  • XKP – Carbon Speaker Covers
  • XNR – Carbon Center Air Vent
  • XNX – Carbon Dashboard Trim Strip
  • XPY – Carbon Instrument Surround
  • XTL – Carbon Door Panel Inserts
  • X47 – Carbon Gear Lever Knob
  • X58 – Carbon Handbrake Lever
  • X69 – Carbon Door Entry Guards w/ Model Logo
  • X77 – Carbon Steering Wheel, Leather Airbag Module
  • 236 – Tire Code
  • 413 - 18” 993 Turbo-Look Wheels (No Longer Available)
  • 437 – 8-Way Electrical Seat, Left
  • 438 – 8-Way Electrical Seat, Right
  • 446 – Wheel Caps w/ Colored Crest
  • 490 – Sound System
  • 537 – Seat Memory, Left
  • 692 – 6-Disc CD Changer
  • 939 – Supple Leather Rear Seats
  • 981 – Leather Dashboard and Door Panel
  • 982 – Supple Leather Front Seats

The 3.4L flat-six engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission that sends up to 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels.  An oil change and brake fluid flush were completed in October of 2021 and Blackstone Lab Oil Analysis has been completed twice during current ownership.  The current owner also replaced the original oil pan after the aluminum drain plug was stripped.  An uninstalled LN Engineering IMS bearing upgrade kit is said to accompany the sale along with some service records and the original oil pan.

This sale will include a clean title, a set of two keys, the original owner's manuals, toolkit, first aid kit, and an IMS bearing upgrade kit.

@Blubusdrvr No, there no other clear coat damage on the car. If you're seeing specs on other areas it's most likely either pollen or dust-living in a heavily wooded area does not help when shooting pics of any car, let alone a black one. The $1200 was to refinish the right rear quarter and surrounding area since the new clear coat will need to be blended. I am in the process of uploading new images which include paint meter readings throughout the entire car. Let me know if you have any other questions.

@RobH313 Thanks. It's hard to tell from the pictures, is the clearcoat damage on most of the rest of the car as well? The $1200 estimate was for that fender or for a paint correction for the entire car?

  • RobH313 (seller) 1 year, 12 monthsago

@Blubusdrvr Thanks for the comments and inquiry. Those are not rock chips but are what can best be described as inclusions in the clear coat. These were present when I bought the car and no one was 100% certain as to the cause. I've had two separate paint correction specialists look at it recently and both gave estimates of ~$1200 to refinish the area.

@RobH313 Nice looking car, thanks for being transparent and pointing out the known flaws. In pic 20: are those rock chips on the rear fender or am I seeing water spots or something else? Thanks

Hi All, excited to offer this 1999 Porsche 911 here on PCarMarket! While the 1999 MY was the 1st generation of water-cooled 911s, it's also the last truly analog 911 and it does not disappoint. This particular car is solid and drives great!

In addition to having a lengthy options list, I am including a LN Engineering IMS kit-new in the box and a car cover. I was holding off replacing the IMS until it came time to replace the clutch. Given the fact that the 996.1s have a dual row IMS bearing that experienced <1% failure rate, the clean bill of oil health given by Blackstone Laboratories, I did not see any reason to move up the timetable for replacement of either.

I will be posting photos of the undercarriage and paint meter readings within the next day or so. Same goes for cold-start, driving and convertible top operation videos-just waiting for better weather.

If you live in the STL area and want to see the car, let reach out, I'd be happy to show it. In addition, if anyone wants to see close-ups of anything in particular, please let me know. I should be able to get them taken and uploaded within a very short period of time.

Thanks for taking a look at this 996.1 and good luck to all the bidders!
