This 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is a first-generation 996 featuring a traditional cable-actuated throttle for its 3.4-liter flat-six engine as well as a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to the rear wheels. It comes finished in Black over a matching interior and features aluminum inlays, a stainless-steel exhaust, & factory 18” Turbo-look wheels. Showing approximately 80k miles on the odometer, this 1999 example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania.
This Carrera is finished in Black with a matching convertible top and a removable painted hardtop as well as factory 18” 911 Turbo-look cast alloy wheels. Optional stainless steel exhaust outlets are equipped, and aftermarket paint-matched headlight covers have been added. The seller adds that an older layer of paint protection film was removed from the hood and front fenders, and a full paint correction was recently performed. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.
The driver is greeted by a black interior with power-adjustable leather seats as well as aluminum inlays within the gear and handbrake levers. The seller adds that an upgraded head unit has been installed. Some signs of wear are noted, and all gauges and accessories are reported to be working properly.
Power is derived from a naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine generating as much as 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission providing for acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds. The seller adds that an oil change, battery replacement, and spark plugs & coil packs have been recently replaced.

They are both racers and instructors (as am I) and still very active in both BMW and Porsche events.

The 1999 is special because of the things I mentioned earlier. Factory DOUBLE ROW IMS, throttle by cable, front and rear trunks by cable, so you don't have to mess with the fuse box in the event of a dead battery.
This 1999 has a very nice upgrade. The 1999 would have come from the factory with a plastic rear window in the soft top. This top has been upgraded to the later model with a real GLASS back window in the soft top!

Thanks for looking at my auction for this very nice 1999 996 Carrera Cabriolet.
Over the years the 996 has grown on me more and more in a lot of different ways. It’s really the perfect 911 to use all the time. They’re still affordable and they have all the DNA of a 911. The styling turns off some people but it’s grown on me over the years. The 1999 is the one to own on the normally aspirated standard body cars. The 1999 had the double row IMS from the factory, so no issues to worry about or need to upgrade. It also still has drive by cable throttle. More important than the throttle is it still has physical releases for the frunk and trunk. If you ever find yourself with a dead battery with a later car, you know you need to pull the fuse box cover and send power to the car just to pop the frunk and get to the battery. In the 1999 you don’t have to mess with any of that, simply pull the frunk release lever and an actual cable opens the frunk.
Take a look at the paint meter shots, this car wears all of its factory paint. There are some small blemishes around which is to be expected on a 24-year-old driver. We removed the PPF from the front of the car. It served the car well, but it was past its prime. The paint was preserved beautifully. We did a full paint correction on the car and as you see in the photos, the black paint shows incredibly well. No swirls to be found.
A brand-new set of tires are in my garage. I will have them mounted and balanced tomrrow. Of course, I will add photos of the new tires on the car. The Pirellis have plenty of meat on them, but they’re dated out. I would not want the new owner to worry about driving it home. The car had a full service this past fall, we have two keys and all the books for the car. Its ready to roll for the next owner. We also fixed a couple of window switches and a rear window regulator, both common issues on 20 year old 911’s.
Nice thing about this car is the condition of the soft top and of course, it has the removable hard top. I’ll put some videos together in the coming days. Cold start, top up / down, short drive. Having the hard top really saves on the wear and tear of the soft top, so the soft top is in great condition.
This is a really really nice entry level 911, its not an overly expensive car, its been well cared for, it shows beautifully, its got the hard top and its ready to roll. The car is still 100% 911 and you know it when you drive it. The headlight covers are hit or miss. I kind of like them so I just left them on. If the next owner doesn’t care for them, they’re easily removed. I try to monitor the auction as closely as I can.
