Up for auction is this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet finished in Black over a Savannah Beige interior. This 6-speed 1999 example underwent a major service in 2015 which included an IMS bearing upgrade, RMS replacement, and new clutch.  Reported to have been originally sold in California, this Carrera was eventually acquired by its seller in Arkansas during August of 2019 before undergoing some noteworthy maintenance including service of the cabriolet top, an alignment, and fluid and filter changes.  Now showing approximately 74k miles on the odometer, this 996 is being offered by its seller in Arkansas complete with original books, tools, keys, service records, and a clean title.

The Black (A1) paint on this 996 is reported to be in very good overall condition.  The passenger side front fender exhibits a cosmetic imperfection near the headlight, and a chip is also depicted on the rear bumper below the license plate area (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The convertible top is said to have been recently replaced and it shows to be in like-new condition.  This example rides on factory optional 18" Sport Techno wheels that have been dressed in new General G-Max tires within the last 1k miles.

Inside, the Savannah Beige interior is said to be in excellent shape except for wear on the seat upholstery.  Factory options include power-operated Comfort Seats, electrically adjustable and heated side-view mirrors, automatic speed control, and a Porsche CR 220 radio.  A Bluetooth receiver has been integrated into the factory radio and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be working properly.  The cabriolet top was also serviced recently with new fluid and rebuilt hydraulic pistons.

This first-generation 996 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.4 L flat-six engine rated at 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a desirable 6-speed manual transmission, allowing this Cabriolet to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds.  A major service was carried out in 2015 at 65k miles which included an LN Engineering IMS bearing upgrade, the replacement of the rear main seal (RMS), and a new clutch.  Since the seller’s purchase in 2019 at just under 72k miles, a comprehensive inspection was carried out, the horn mechanism was replaced, the fluids and filters were changed, and a 4-wheel alignment was performed along with the installation of new tires.  A partial collection of service records is available including an invoice for the major service in 2015, and this 996 is reported to be in excellent driving order.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys with remote fobs, owner’s manuals, tools, a spare tire, service records, a California car cover, a battery trickle charger, and a clean title.  Per the seller’s local tax credit regulations, the transaction for this vehicle must be completed in full before January 14th, and the sale remains contingent upon this condition.

@rjrutherford When I bought the 996 last year I also owned a pristine 1968 SS Camaro. I liked the 996 a lot, but I'm 6'4" 225 lb. tight fit. I thought sell the Camaro and buy the 991 which has a larger cabin and I can be more comfortable on long trips. I sold the Camaro and found the 991. The first weeks owning it I wasn't sure I liked it. It's a PDK trans and I always had manuals in sports cars. I'm 71 years old and will be using it as a daily driver. I was going to keep the 996 but the more I thought about paying insurance and maintenance on both vehicles which gets expensive, so I decided to sell the 996 if I get my reserve price at the auction. If not, I'll keep it .... Don't get me wrong the 996 is a great car and a blast to drive. Plus, the values on the 996 are on the rise!

  • rjrutherford (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

May I ask why you are selling it after only owning it since 2019?

@bhmohio I have no knowledge of an accident. The Carfax shows nothing reported. Not aware of the auto check report. It could have been very minor, possibly the paint cracks on photo #45. There is no evidence of damage in the frunk or be underneath suspension.

  • blee49 (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

    Arbitrageur and other bidders:
“ * Do the cracks in picture #24 allow water in?” Answer: Paint surface cracks only.

"Also, is that an extra Porsche crest stuck on top of an embedded Porsche crest in the steering wheel airbag cover?" Answer: The Porsche Crest was on the steering wheel when I bought it. I thought it was an option (??) As far if it is embedded, I don't know and I'm not going to remove it to find out.

"Finally, how much of a down payment do you need—a set dollar amount or a percentage of closing bid etc?" Answer: I would require $2500.00 down payment by January 13, 2021. This down payment would confirm the sale and be deducted from the final bid price. The bill of sale will reflect the final bid price.

Autocheck is showing a accident report. Any information on that? I appreciate it

@blee49 Thanks for those answers. Sorry if I missed it but did you answer my last question, rested below:

“ * Do the cracks in picture #24 allow water in?”

Also, is that an extra Porsche crest stuck on top of an embedded Porsche crest in the steering wheel airbag cover?

Finally, how much of a down payment do you need—a set dollar amount or a percentage of closing bid etc?

Thank you all for your comments, I want whoever buying this car to be happy. I will be posting a driving video today plus the top opening and closing.

@blee49 from past experience I find that when the seller is more engaged with the bidders this brings much more interest and higher bidding. I get the block is in line for this 996 in over 3 days. But if takes hours to get a response (seen thus far) from you now just wait till the real questions start flying in. I am all about the 996 please help yourself and other 996 owners to push this 911 as high as possible. I would hope Pcarmarket is helping you with this. Good luck!

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@blee49 nice car and honest presentation including with what I think is the mandatory cold start video. I would recommend not revving the engine to 5k until it gets up to temperature.

Can we see a video showing exclusively opening and closing of the cabriolet roof?

Most of the exterior flaws can be inexpensively refinished however and unfortunately Savanah Beige always takes the most beating of all the leather interiors of this great gen 1 models. Absolutely the interior doesn’t affect the smiles to miles factor as long as the power plant is sound. Good luck with your sale.

  • blee49 (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Arbitrageur and other bidder's I welcome your questions. Let me start with the condition of the seat leather Pcarmarket chose to call it excellent. I would say the drivers seat is in good condition with weathered cracks on the upper and lower outside bolsters, none which go though the leather to the backing. The passenger seat shows less wear as always. The steering wheel has 9-1 (hand position) color wear marks on the leather. Shifter same thing, more wear on the side you grip with the palm of your hand, wear marks, yes.... it is 21 years old and been driven 74k miles. No holes exist on any of the leather. Will post close up photos tomorrow.

*As far as the sale, all I need is a legal bill of sale dated no later than 1-13-2021, so a down payment will work via money wire transfer to my bank which will be dated, with the balance due noted before the car is picked up. That time frame can be discussed after the down payment is received.

    * The cord exiting the dash on the passenger side by the speaker was there when I bought it. I'm guessing it was for a radar detector power cord.

*The original headlights on this car were replaced and upgraded with high intensity bulbs. They in very good shape, no cracks.

  • Arbitrageur (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

"the Savannah Beige interior is said to be in excellent shape except for wear on the seat upholstery"

The steering wheel and shifter look in rough shape, as well as the seat front surfaces. Would you please supply additional close up pictures under good lighting of these areas?

"Transaction must be completed by January 14th"

Does the paperwork have to be signed, money and title exchanged, and car picked up within 72 hours of the auction's conclusion?

    Additional questions:
    * What is the cord exiting the dash on the passenger side by the speaker?
    * The headlights on these 996s are notorious for oxidizing. Is there any oxidization on either of these?
    * Do the cracks in picture #24 allow water in?

Hello Bidders, I'm selling my first Porsche after owning many Japanese sports cars. It was on my bucket list to have a 911 so I bought this one and fell in love with the way it drove and handled. I also had a 68 Camaro and sold it to get money to upgrade to a 991 Cab. Really wanted to keep both but then decided I probably wouldn't drive it much so I'm putting it up for sale because I want someone else to enjoy the car and catch the Porsche bug....it's a great car, modern with classic styling and handling. Guaranteed to put a big smile on your face!
