NO RESERVE 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera 6-Speed w/ Sunroof Delete

Up for auction at no-reserve is this 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe finished in Ocean Blue Metallic over a Graphite Grey interior.  Custom ordered with a rare sunroof-delete and 6-speed manual transmission, this 1999 example also features the optional Sport Package (014) which equips Sport Suspension, 2-way electrical Sport Seats, and a limited-slip differential.  It has been further enhanced with factory 18” SportDesign wheels, an upgraded sound system, a factory short-shift kit, and an upgraded silicone intake boot.  Thoroughly serviced by the specialists at West Werks Automotive over the past several years, this 996 shows approximately 145k miles on the odometer and is now being offered by its seller out of Washington.

This Carrera was ordered in Ocean Blue Metallic along with a rarely seen sunroof delete option.  The lowered Sport Suspension provides an aggressive stance complementing the factory two-piece 18” SportDesign wheels.  These BBS-manufactured wheels come fitted with colored center crests and a set of Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires mounted in 2020.  Cosmetic imperfections are depicted in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, you will find a Graphite Grey interior with optional heated leather Sport Seats.  An upgraded Alpine Bluetooth radio has been installed along with an amplifier, MB Quart crossovers, and an Eclipse 6-disc CD changer mounted in the trunk.  The cabin exhibits signs of wear commensurate with the car’s age and mileage.  The Airbag warning and check-engine lights are currently illuminated, and the A/C does not blow cold at this time.  The factory specifications label on the underside of the hood decodes the options below:

  • 030 – Sports Suspension
  • 014 – Sport Package
  • 139 – Seat Heating, Left
  • 220 – Limited Slip Differential
  • 222 – Traction Control (ASR)
  • 224 – Traction Control (ABD)
  • 340 – Seat Heating, Right
  • 375 – 2-Way Electrical Sport Seat, Left
  • 376 – 2-Way Electrical Sport Seats, Right
  • 652 – Without Sunroof
  • 983 – Leather Front Seats

This first-generation 996 Carrera is equipped with a 3.4L flat-six engine rated at 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The optional Sport Package includes a limited-slip differential (220) and Sport Suspension (030) which provides a 10mm drop in ride height.  This model also comes equipped with traction control including Anti Slip Regulation (ASR) and an Automatic Braking Differential (ABD).  CARFAX shows maintenance to have been carried out by West Werks Automotive of Redmond, Washington since 2015 including an overhaul of the cooling system, brake service, new engine/transmission mounts, a new alternator, oil pump, drive belts, sway bar links, and shift linkage.  The seller states that some invoices documenting routine service over the years will accompany the sale.

This sale will include a clean title. Offered at no reserve while sporting rare driver-oriented options, this 6-speed 996 Carrera presents an opportunity that is not to be missed.

Good morning all, and I hope you had a wonderful holiday yesterday. You can see the paint meter photos now updated to the photo gallery. Happy bidding of course, and someone is taking home this beautiful and rare 996 today!

@rich_r - Truly my pleasure Rich, and I apologize that I couldn't give you even more intelligence from the code scanning exercise. I will upgrade my tools over time so that future auctions can be even more precise in terms of information provided.

Speaking of which, I'm still waiting for the paint metering photos to be shared here, so I'll ping them again as I want all of you to have them before the auction closes tomorrow.

    @stevetheodore - thank you!

  • stevetheodore (seller) 5 days, 2 hoursago

@rich_r - I haven't forgotten about this. My ELM327 code reader doesn't much like this car, but I did make several attempts while I was with the car. The only one that stood out to me was that there were some misfires detected and reported, but I couldn't get anything out of the body control section which would be helpful.

Looking through my phone now, the app I use doesn't store that type of information so I'm afraid I don't have a list to share here, which was never a full list at all. You would need a Durametric or PIWIS style of scan tool to get more of a proper read-out in Porsche terms than anything I have available. Sorry about that, but I didn't want to leave you hanging.

  • rich_r (registered bidder) 5 days, 3 hoursago

@stevetheodore - Any update on the CEL.....?

  • stevetheodore (seller) 5 days, 5 hoursago

I want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving Day and hope that you all have the opportunity to spend time with family and friends on this very special day. I'll be online tomorrow to look for any final questions and to help see this auction to a strong conclusion.

  • stevetheodore (seller) 5 days, 23 hoursago

Hey guys, thanks for the continued bids. I appreciate it!

I was able to get paint metering done for the car and just uploaded those photos to PCARMARKET. I'll ask the to ensure they are included here.

Regarding the CEL, I'm still trying to do that. There is only one key, that's correct (and pictured)

  • rich_r (registered bidder) 6 days, 1 hourago

@stevetheodore - any update on those error codes? Also, is there only 1 key?

Hi @stevetheodore - any chance you can plug in a code reader and inform us what the EML and airbag light errors are? Thanks

  • stevetheodore (seller) 1 weekago

Note to all bidders that the team at PCARMARKET has been able to find and process my video, which should be visible shortly on this auction. Thanks for the note to remind us that it wasn't here as it should have been. I will also plan to create a cold start video and share that in the next day.

@ptgltw - those are portions of the stereo system. You can see the large speaker assembly from my exterior photos looking down into the rear interior area through the back glass.

  • ptgltw (registered bidder) 1 weekago

Can you try to explain what is going on in the back seat area? That's an aftermarket shelf I'm assuming? Do you know why they built it? Stereo system?

  • stevetheodore (seller) 1 weekago

@Riles8699 - I did create and upload a driving video for PCARMARKET, so I'm not sure what happened to it. For a cold start I'll have to make one, but I'd be happy to tomorrow.

The driving videos are really challenging for me to make at this stage of my evolution as they rely on the weather and also my ability to get someone to film, but I did manage to get that done for this car so I'll ask the guys at PCAR what may have happened to it.

  • Riles8699 (registered bidder) 1 weekago

@stevetheodore are you able to post cold start and driving videos? Thanks for the listing.

  • stevetheodore (seller) 1 week, 1 dayago

@ptgltw - truly my pleasure, and I always try to represent vehicles as fairly as appreciate your kind comment.

  • ptgltw (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

@stevetheodore Thanks for your honesty and quick response. Much appreciated. I'll be watching this auction closely.

  • stevetheodore (seller) 1 week, 1 dayago

@ptgltw - I have not attempted to fill the A/C as I bought this car to list it here, not to fix it up. With regard to the other issues, I may or may not be able to get the codes prior to the end of auction because I'm unclear if I can pull Porsche specific codes.

Please keep in mind this is a NO RESERVE auction. The car is being listed with all known faults and is only expected to bring value corresponding to what it's worth right now, not as a perfect example. Thanks!

  • ptgltw (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

As for the AC not blowing cold, did you attempt to fill it with freon or try to find the leak?

  • ptgltw (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

"Thoroughly Serviced" but the airbag light and check engine light are on. I can appreciate things just popping up after service. Can you shed light on why the check engine light and airbag light are on? Did (can) you run the codes?

  • stevetheodore (seller) 1 week, 1 dayago

@luis.seneriz - thank you very much for your kind and informative comments. I did not realize that the 1999 model was so different and special myself, but did offer up the following link so that people could read about all the things that make it unique:

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Another unique thing. The throttle on this cars , only 99 carrera coupes is cable controlled, no electronic e gas. This is a big difference from egas cars. You don’t know the difference until you drive them.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

To anyone. I don’t have the m030 on my car, I have hr springs and adjustable konis. With this this car is like a go cart, goes wherever you want it to go. Take the spare tire out, replace the exhaust, make some mods and you are talking about a 2800 lb car with close to 320 hp. In a raw matter with no traction control. Also no sunroof even better. Personally I was thinking about buying a 997 carrera s but I have decided
Against it. I’m going to get me a 4.0 and put it in this car, with no cup holders and glove box, the driving experience will blow your mind off. By the way go to rennlist and read why the early 99 are so
Special, I can testify to most of it. The drag coefficient from the factory on this car is 0.30 ie Ferrari la Ferrari better than a Porsche 991 with no electronic controls. You don’t know what it is until you drive it, I had mine as high as 160 mph. But Saturday I hit 135 and it was as happy as a whistle.

  • stevetheodore (seller) 1 week, 2 daysago

@luis.seneriz - sorry but no other lights are included, the only spare part is the intake hose mentioned. I cannot speak much for the maintenance and service history other than what the receipts say so I don't want to speculate. With regard to driving the car home, what I can say is that the tires are in great shape and the brakes feel fine, meaning the car feels solid when going down the road, and feels safe. Obviously I cannot say it would go 2000 miles without any hiccups, but gives no reason to suspect it would be an issue. I appreciate your bid!

  • luis.seneriz 1 week, 2 daysago

Bid in the amount of $12,996

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

This car looks to be a great driver. If it had 50,000 miles it would be a different story. Anyway I drive mine in January from Wisconsin to Texas 1300 miles in 22 hours without a single issue. I just checked the mileage and I’ll be 1900 miles from where it is at. Seller any concerns about driving the car . If I don’t Winn it for whoever gets if it in great shape as mine these cars are wonderful on those long distance trips, also it allows you to get to know the car. Honestly what is another 2,000 miles on a 145,000 mile car.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

Seller I own a 3/98 coupe with factory 408s. I was looking for blue but couldn’t find the right car. Anyway this is an early car, do you have the original headlights (ambers)? In one of the invoices for service it talks about oil leak it says probably rms has that been addressed and I am sorry if I missed that piece of information. Thanks

  • stevetheodore (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

@Porsche911 - just in case it helps you or any other bidders, I do offer wholesale shipping as part of my range of services as a dealer, and it would be my pleasure to assist the winning bidder with a true wholesale price (no markup) to get the car shipped to them.

  • Porsche911 (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

I would love to bid on this car and sell my ‘06 997 S with 45,000 miles. However, the shipping from Washington to GA is cost prohibitive. I love the color and S/R delete. It’s one I’ve been looking for… a nice driver. Wish we were closer to you.

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

@stevetheodore I appreciate your quick response. To be honest with you I think I’ve never seen a car on Pcarmarket get bid up so fast. The 992 Aerokit I just sold on Pcar went days before any nibbles were made.
    Bravo ?

  • stevetheodore (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

  • stevetheodore (seller) 1 week, 4 daysago

@ddrnascar - great question but we have to assume it has NOT been done. However, as a 1999 model it almost certainly has the original stronger 'dual row' IMS bearing design, which is a good thing.

For a full list of what makes the earliest 996 models special, please read here as there is more to list that you may be interested to read about:

  • Mercyhealth (registered bidder) 1 week, 4 daysago

@stevetheodore thank you for bringing this car to auction. Sunroof delete is my personal favorite. Standard sunroofs on the 996 can add to the many rattles that the gen 5 911s come with. In general if you want wind, sun, flying road debris, and possibly water in your cabin then get a cab.

One question what is the function of the the 3rd button down on the right side of the PCM? Normally it’s for the rear wiper. Which fortunately also did not make the build.

Hello everyone, and welcome to our NO RESERVE auction for this incredibly rare spec of 996.1 Carrera 2. I often look for sunroof delete models and can say that they are very rare for this vintage of 911. Couple that with the Ocean Blue Metallic paint, sport suspension, and cool wheels and you have a really neat and desirable example.

Although it's a driver quality example that needs some love, we are allowing the market to determine its value and I personally made the decision to snatch it up when I saw how absolutely rare a spec it was. A really great opportunity for someone!

Happy Bidding, and I'll be here all throughout the auction to answer your questions. If you'd like to come see the car, please use the Contact Seller feature and it would be my pleasure to show you the car at our showroom in Issaquah, Washington.
