This 1999 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet came factory finished in Ocean Blue Metallic over a Space Grey interior and equipped with a 5-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission, a three-spoke steering wheel with shift buttons, heated 8-way front seats with driver memory, Exclusive stainless-steel door sill guards, and aluminum-look instrument dials. This 996 is now being offered for auction as a project car by its seller out of Ohio while showing approximately 88k miles on the odometer.

This 996 is finished in Ocean Blue Metallic with a Metropol Blue cabriolet top and rides on factory 993 Turbo-Look wheels. The exterior shows significant signs of wear and some cosmetic damage including a missing paint and clear coat on the front end, a gouge on the driver’s side quarter panel, and faded headlamps. The seller notes the power convertible top mechanism is inoperable and the top’s frame has become detached at the rear, although the hydraulic system seems to be functional. The tires are also in need of replacement. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Space Grey interior includes heated 8-way power-adjustable front seats with driver’s position memory as well as stainless-steel door entry guards with model logos, aluminum-look instrument dials, a CD storage compartment, a sound system, and a three-spoke steering wheel with Tiptronic shift buttons. The condition of the interior is depicted in the gallery and the seller notes the rear windows are not operational and the functionality of the A/C has not been confirmed.

This 996 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.4-liter flat-six engine rated at 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission. The seller notes an aftermarket K&N air intake has been installed and the engine starts and runs, although a significant coolant leak is present. The brake calipers are also reported to stick.

This sale will include owner’s manuals and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for checking out the 996. I bought it in this not-so-great condition a few months ago. It does run and go forward and reverse. The wipers and turn signals work. The brake pedal seems good but the brakes stick. It is beyond my skill set to get back on the road, so I am moving on.”

If I had the extra space I'd get this as a parts car. The sum of all parts make the current high bid a bargain and hope to see some moves towards auction close or else I might have to jump in and rent a trailer.

I am told by my mechanic that the water leak is up high not block level.

  • Doc18015 (registered bidder) 6 months, 4 weeksago

I wrote to the seller; he answered:

"The coolant leak is at the right rear of the engine. I am unable to see exactly where it’s coming from. I am told the engine needs to be removed in order to get to the leak. There is no rust through the car sat outside and got very dirty underneath. This is a major project in my opinion probably more of a donor car. The car can be driven onto a trailer. Check Uship.com for shipping rates. Thanks for your interest."

I also asked about the severe frame rust. The gentleman seems sincere and is representing the car fairly.

If the block is cracked, he is right, a "donor" car.

@Viper1000 I have not driven it on the road, only moved it around the parking lot. With the water leak I don’t want to risk frying the motor.

You mentioned that it goes forward and reverse but I'm wondering is it drivable?
