Available for auction is this 2000 Mercedes-Benz R129 SL500 finished in Black over a Black leather interior. The R129 series was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March of 1989 and received facelifts for the 1996 and 1999 model years. This 2000 example is among the final iterations of the R129, and was sold new by Loeber Motors of Lincolnwood, Illinois with the optional SL1 and SL2 packages.  Dealer-maintained for most of its life and treated to a recent full service and pre-purchase inspection, this SL500 is being offered for auction by its seller out of California showing under 39k miles on the odometer.

This SL comes finished in Black with a matching power-retractable soft top and removable hardtop. The factory-equipped SL1 Package adds an AMG-designed aerodynamic lower body kit including a front apron with mesh air intake, a contoured rear apron, and sculpted side skirts with Sport emblems. The seller describes the finish to be in excellent condition overall and has supplied detailed images of any known imperfections.  A clean CARFAX report is also provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings. The SL1 Package equips staggered-width AMG 5 spoke monobloc alloy wheels, which are currently dressed in a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires dated from 2018-2019.

The cabin features heated and power-adjustable seats trimmed in black leather along with a matching dashboard and door panels accented by decorative wood veneers. Amenities include automatic climate control, cruise control, Xenon headlights with automatic level control, and a Bose stereo with an integrated trunk-mounted 6-disc CD changer. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional, although the original Motorola telephone is no longer with the car. The seller notes a few minor flaws including broken plastic pieces on the sun visors and a slight depression on the passenger door panel.

This SL500 is powered by an all-aluminum M113 5.0L V8 engine rated at 302 HP and 339 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a 5-speed automatic transmission. The car is said to have been dealer maintained from new up until 2016 and was recently serviced with a new mass airflow sensor, adjustment of the power top, new lifter and rocker arms, a new valve cover gasket, an engine tune-up, and fresh fluids. Corresponding invoices are provided in the gallery along with images of the undercarriage.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals, service records, and a clean title. With its impressive build quality, luxurious appointments, and robust V8 engine, this low-mileage SL500 offers an excellent value for any enthusiast in search of a vintage SL-Class Mercedes-Benz

@sierracarguy - Yes, the original wind deflector is included (photo 42). Working on getting you the video and wheel photographs as we speak.

@Bshocar hello. Please understand it is not permitted to solicit outside sales. Please place a bid if you wish to purchase the vehicle.

  • TomFuelery (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@rickmilligan928 - There are no scratches on the passenger door wood trim, so it must just be reflections. Pretty sure one of the them (at least in photo 38) is a neon yellow microfiber that I had tucked into my pocket as I was photographing the car.

  • rickmilligan928 (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

On the passenger door wood veneer, are those scratches or some sort of reflection? Thank you, rm

    Hey Everyone -

Thanks for your interest in my SL500! I feel like the final iteration R129s (especially with the SL1 and SL2 package) are the epitome of modern classics - a Bruno Sacco masterpiece first penned in the '80s, sold into the 2000s, and one of the last Mercedes with that tangible, brand-defining build quality. It just feels expensive (let alone amply powerful, tightly engineered, and all-at-once beautiful and strong), but even though they've already scraped the bottom of their depreciation curve and the good ones are markedly on the way up, IMO they're still an absolute bargain for what they deliver. It's a car that's entirely at home parked up front in any valet line, even if it's worth 1/6 the car next to it, and I'd venture to say that in most respects that perception extends to behind the wheel too.

This is a good one: right specs, right colors, clean and honest, mechanically sorted. I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have, and would be happy to show it to anyone in the area before the auction's end.
