The 996 Carrera is revered for its excellent driving characteristics, and incredible value.  As the market continues heat up, this 2000 Porsche 996 Carrera Coupe is surely not to be overlooked.  Equipped with a factory Aerokit, rear GT fins, sunroof delete, and factory 18” Turbo wheels, it is clear that this 996 is something special.  It is now being offered for auction by its seller in Pennsylvania with 81k miles showing on the odometer.

Finished in Black Metallic, this 2000 Carrera is stated to be in very good condition with some minor rock chips which are outlined in the photo gallery along with recent paint meter readings.  The desirable Aerokit package consists of front and rear facias as well as a rear spoiler and rocker panels, paying homage to the legendary GT3 model.  Uniquely equipped are factory rear side GT fins that are seldom found on these models which make this example that much more special.  This car rides on original 18” Turbo wheels that stand in great shape and come wrapped in new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires dated from 2016. Please view tread depth photos in the gallery.

Inside, this Carrera sports a Graphite Grey leather interior that is said to be in great condition with a few signs of wear as outlined in the photo gallery.  The seller notes that the center console has been finished in black, adding a nice touch to match the exterior of the vehicle.  With an original MSRP of over $85k, a few noteworthy features include: powered hard-back Sport Seats, aluminum accents, Litronic headlights, a 3-spoke leather steering wheel, rear window wiper, and a Digital Sound Package.  All electronics are said to be in working order.

This 996 Carrera retains its original 3.6 liter flat-six engine which produces 296HP.  Power is delivered to the rear wheels by way of a fluid 6-speed manual transmission allowing for a 0-60 time of less than 5 seconds.  This Carrera is stated by the seller to be recently up-to-date on all due service and currently stands in great driving condition.

The sale of this unique 996 will include two keys, factory books, an original window sticker, and a clean Carfax.

@spdoran I know the KBB comment was a joke lol

  • spdoran (registered bidder) 3 years, 11 monthsago

I could see this car rightfully going for much higher than it is right now - KBB hardly applies to a car of this spec.

  • jaynar (registered bidder) 3 years, 11 monthsago

We’re already above KBB. Taxes and shipping put it over $20k ?

Do you have any underbody pics? Is there any indication the car saw heavy snow use - if memory serves me correct, the "S" in DWS stands for snow.

Good morning all. Thank you again for considering the purchase of this super-rare and unique 911 Aerokit car. It is truly terrific.

I will be monitoring this auction closely today and will do my best to respond quickly and accurately to all questions. You may also direct email me or call if you have an immediate concern.

Thank you all and good luck bidding!

@jaynar An oil service was completed days before the owner drove here from North Carolina to trade the car in to be certain it was fresh for the trip up here.

You are correct about the tires. They are an almost new matching set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires. I asked PCar to change that in the description early on but it looks like it was overlooked. I will request that again now.

I hope that clarifies things. Thanks for your consideration and good luck bidding!

  • jaynar (registered bidder) 3 years, 11 monthsago

Curious why no oil change when the service was done? Description says Michelin’s but they’re clearly Contis.

@jaynar To clarify, you are correct. I was not provided with documentation for the replacement of the IMS. That said, if the winning bidder is still concerned, he/she may opt to have the IMS replacement including a new rear main seal completed by the Porsche mechanic we use at his/her expense at the dealer rate of approximately $2,300. I will assist in having the work done before the buyer picks up the car if he/she desires.

Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide to you. Thank you for your consideration and good luck bidding!

  • jaynar (registered bidder) 3 years, 11 monthsago

So no documented proof of the IMS being replaced?

@zimmd1 Thank you for your questions and I apologize for the delayed response. I am happy to answer those questions. The presale inspection was completed by The Porsche Specialist in Broomall, PA. They are a well-known Porsche service center among the Porsche community in our area. The invoice and DME rev-report were submitted and posted yesterday afternoon.

This 911 was traded in here at this dealership and I was fortunate to meet the second owner. He explained that when the car had approximately 30,000 miles, the IMS was updated preventatively by his nephew who is a Porsche master tech. The work was completed at his home garage over the course of several days. As for the RMS, that was replace at least once at the time the IMS was updated. At this time and mileage, it is safe to assume it was changed at least one more time. That said, the IMS is not in need of replacement at this time per the presale inspection.

I will make a video of a cold start this morning and post it ASAP. Thanks to all for your patience and good luck bidding!

I was wondering if we could get a few questions answered. You mentioned that the car went through a pre-sale inspection, can we get the results of that posted? The listing states that several items have been taken care of (IMS/RMS), does the car come with all service records from the previous owners? Is there a way for us to get a cold start video with sound? Thank you.

  • mcotml.com (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

@CMXCVI Thanks for the compliment. We were super -excited when this came in on trade. The funny thing is, the original owner ordered sunroof delete because he was about 6'5" and was unable to fit in a 911 with a sunroof. Ironic that it is such a cool feature today among enthusiasts of any height! :-)

  • CMXCVI 3 years, 11 monthsago

I've only ever seen one 996 Carrera with a factory sunroof delete. I almost think that alone is more special and rare than the aero kit. Either way, this is the ultimate enthusiast spec for one of these. GLWTS.

@Mercyhealth Thank you for the comments and questions. The IMS was retrofitted at about 30,000 miles which required the replacement of the rear main seal (RMS) at the same time as was disclosed to me by the second owner at the time he traded the car in at this dealership. After having the car pre-sale inspected are our European car specialist, it appears that the current rear main seal is in good order. In addition, the car was inspected, serviced, and is well sorted for its next home. Tires are almost new, brakes and fluids are up to spec, and all things function properly. This 996 has great pedigree Having had only two past owners who were friends and both maintained the car properly. It looks and runs like a car with a quarter of the mileage. Thanks again and good luck bidding!

Always great to see the factory Aerokit. Some think that this 3.4 l engine doesn’t deserve the rear spoiler. I say if its badged correctly then no poser here. We need to see the Aerokit more unfortunately this option is seldom chosen on a build.
That being said the 996 struggles with multiple issues. Some are real some just aesthetic. The only real issue is the IMS and RMS. Have these been mitigated?
