Routinely maintained by its second owner since November 2000, this Boxster is now being offered for auction at no reserve out of Nevada while showing approximately 73k miles on the odometer.

Designed by Grant Larson, who is also responsible for the styling of the Carrera GT and 997, the 986 presents elegant lines, side air intakes, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and an open-air driving experience. Finished in Arena Red Metallic, this example rides on optional 17” 996 Carrera-look twist-spoke wheels with colored center crests and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires from 2017. The seller adds that paint protection film was applied to the headlights, front bumper, mirrors, and front of the hood in November of 2001. Some minor paint imperfections are noted and detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin presents Savannah Beige leather upholstery and features bucket seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with Tiptronic shift buttons, and fleece-lined front and rear luggage compartments. Optional features include heated seats and a CD shelf within the center console. Creature comforts consist of power windows, automatic climate control, interior lighting, and backlit analog instrumentation. The seller adds that the factory radio has been replaced with a JVC single CD player with Bluetooth capability, the seat cushions have been replaced, and the original floor mats have been replaced.

The 2.7-liter flat-six engine generates as much as 217 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an optional 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. Traction control ABD (Automatic Braking Differential) was additionally opted for. Past service items are said to include a front wheel alignment in August 2018, the replacement of the passenger side knee assembly in September 2018, a transmission flush in March 2019, replacements to the undercarriage plastic panels and horn bracket ring in September 2019, replacements to the e-brake switch and air filters in September 2021, and a front wheel alignment in August 2021. More recent items reportedly included replacing the trunk shocks in July 2022, replacing the control valve, change-over valve, check valve, vacuum canister, transmission oil cooler lines, and thermostat in August 2022, as well as replacing the water pump, thermostat, coolant, and drive belt in March of 2023. A host of documentation will accompany the sale.

This sale will include a clean title, owner's manuals, two keys, a car cover, a toolkit, and a host of service documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this car for over 23 years and built its own garage when I lived in Troy, Michigan. The car was never driven in snow. I put it to bed in late November and open it up in late April. I recently replaced the water pump, thermostat and drive belt. The car is stock and fun to drive.”

thank you for your comments, like clockwork I replaced the oil every year, no matter what situation. Never found any metal debris in old oil.

FWIW, I’m driving a 2002 Boxster S with 75000 miles on it. It still has the original IMS and Clutch and RMS.
I drive it like I stole it and have had no problems.
Being as those M96 engines have, at worst, a 10% failure rate for the IMS, I reckon if it’s not failed by now , it won’t.
I’ve heard that one of the tricks to IMS longevity is to NEVER drive below 3000 rpm and don’t drive above 4000 rpm until fully warmed up.
I suspect the 3000 rpm minimum has to do with bearing lubrication and oil pressure.
If that engine does blow up, it opens up the discussion of replacing it with anything from a used Subie WRX engine to a 3.8 Carrera unit.
It’s almost too much fun to think about!
    Beautiful color combo. Good luck!

I have a 99 996 with the same color combination! Wood be cool stable mate. Just replaced IMS at 72,000 and it looked fine, but it is sealed so who knows. My understanding is that the 2000 would have single row. Not sure about the "Don't worry about it" advice! $3-4000 vs engine rebuild that would be cost prohibitive for a car in this price range. I don't know if the 2.7 engine has rates similar to the 3.4. like Clint Eastwood "Do you feel lucky" Best wishes for a good auction, beautiful car, well maintained

@srodgrg the loud noice was the water pump. The car has been serviced by Carl’s place here in Las Vegas since I relocated here from Michigan . I spoke with them regarding the IMS bearing and he told me not to worry about it. I never had an issue. There are 2 videos on operation of the top

    @Kpyanch-
    Nice car, a couple questions:
    The usual, IMS status?
What was "loud noise" in March when the second water pump replacement occurred?
Can you post some photos with the top up, and even a video of its operation?
    Thanks!
