A renowned sports sedan among enthusiasts, the second-generation Audi S4 is built upon the B5 platform and features a 2.7-liter V6 “Biturbo” engine, sport suspension, and the Quattro all-wheel-drive system with an Electronic Differential Lock. This 2001.5 Audi S4 Quattro is finished in Santorin Blue Pearl Effect over an Onyx Silk Nappa Leather interior as well as a rare 5-speed Tiptronic transmission, the Premium Package, Bose Premium Sound System, and the Cold Weather Package. It is said to be one of 285 examples finished in this color and benefits from a service history including a water pump and timing belt replacement, new intake manifold gaskets, upper control arms, and rear brakes. This modern classic is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Illinois while showing approximately 90k miles on the odometer.

The Audi S4 is based on the B5 A4 and is distinguished by unique bumpers and side skirts, a different front grille, xenon HID headlamps, integrated front fog lights, and wider 17” Avus Design 6-arm cast aluminum alloy wheels. This example is finished in Santorin Blue Pearl Effect and rides on a set of Falken tires that were mounted at 83k miles. The seller states that the original owner once closed his garage door on the rear bumper and the area was refinished with a blend mark remaining visible. Some rock chips are also noted on the front as well as scuffing on the wheels and a light scratch on the driver’s door. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with Onyx Silk Nappa Leather upholstery and Birdseye maple wood trim for the dashboard, center console, and door panels. The S4 model features a unique set of red instrument dials with white pointer needles as well as heavily bolstered Recaro sport seats with 10-way power adjustment and lumbar support. This example came optioned with a Bose Premium Sound System and the Premium Package which adds a power glass sunroof, a Homelink remote transmitter, and auto-dimming mirrors. The optional Cold Weather Package also adds heated front seats and an expandable ski bag. Other features include electronic climate control, a tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote keyless locking, and a Symphony CD/cassette radio. An aftermarket remote starter has also been installed.

The 2.7-liter V6 Biturbo engine features lightweight aluminum alloy heads with double overhead camshafts, 5 valves per cylinder, and variable inlet valve timing. Boost comes from a pair of parallel water-cooled BorgWarner K03 turbochargers with dual side-mounted air-to-air intercoolers. Up to 250 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque is through a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission to a Quattro permanent all-wheel-drive system with an Electronic Differential Lock (EDL). The S4 comes standard with a sport suspension including a four-link configuration in front and independent double A-arms in the rear. The brake system includes a Bosch ABS 5.3 four-channel anti-lock system with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and features Lucas 2-piston front calipers with four brake pads each. The seller notes the diverter valves have been added to the turbochargers and has provided the following service history:

  • 71k Miles – New water pump and timing belt, tie rods, wheel bearings, O2 sensor, intake manifold gaskets, and upper control arms replaced.
  • 83k Miles – New tires
  • 88k Miles – Oil change and gas cap replaced
  • 89k Miles – New rear brake pads, rotors, calipers, exhaust clamp, and secondary injection pump.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, and window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, sales literature, service records, and an Audi ski bag.

The seller would like you to know: “This iconic Audi was a bucket list buy from me. I love the styling and comfort of the seats. I probably shouldn't have bought another 3rd car and regretfully must sell to keep my other toys on the road. Great maintenance and is ready to go!”

@Blubyeyou Appreciate the kind words! I mentioned in the last two comments about your question.

    Thanks again!

@navchak You may want to check locally but I'd be shocked if this didn't pass emissions from a diverter valve. Most new cars come with them as OEM. It helps spool and venting excess boost which would increase the longevity of the turbo. No issues in IL.

Apologies I put that in the last comment too! =)

    @navchak Good Morning! Great questions!

The calipers were a little sticky on the rears and the rear pads were down enough for me to want to change them and instead of just resurfacing the rotors I had the entire thing done. I usually do this with each car I own. Where I live the difference in a resurface and a new rotor is minimal.

@GriffsWorldOfThings What happened on BaT? Did the buyer not follow through? Beautiful color! GLWTS!

  • navchak (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

I see that the rear brake pads and rotors were replaced by prior owner at 71,000 and then again by you at 89,000 miles. Is that normal?

  • navchak (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

Sorry to hear about the no-sale on BaT but glad to see it re-listed here. I see the comment about the diverter. Would that cause this car to not pass emissions in CA? Just wondering. Thanks and GLWA.

With one day left I want to send a quick shout out to the community here!

It's been a great experience getting to know the pcarmarket staff and the effort they had in helping me sell one of my favorite cars of all time.

This S4 would make a fantastic daily or with the current mileage a mid-long term investment on one of Audi's most iconis S4 platforms, the B5.

Genuinely this car is turnkey. I like to ensure that a car is being sold in the same way I'd accept to buy one in. I'm happy to work closely on getting this car shipped if necessary and will mention one more, I'm confident this can road trip to anywhere in the US48/Canada territory.

I'll be around and able to answer any other questions the next 24 hours. Thank you SO much for viewing and happy bidding!

@Dconn279 HI there! Thanks for the great question.

Long story short, very long and confusing poor experience that lead to no transaction.

    Hi all!

I just wanted to reach out before the weekend!

I'm extremely confident this S4 can make any road trip in the US-48. I tried out the steering wheel shifting today to ensure it works properly, and I almost wanted to keep it. Very responsive.

I'll be providing some night pictures or video hopefully today as long as the rain stays away.

Thank you for your time here!

@Tlombardo Hi there! Thanks for the comments and great questions!

CarFax could not fit the entirety of the work done in the area so before purchasing this car myself I contacted the original owner and the shop that did the work for confirmation. This paperwork will be included with the sale.

The original owner told me the engine cover wasn't able to fit after the diverters were installed on the turbos. As well, it kind of cracked so they left it off.

The Carfax doesn’t show the timing belt being replaced. Do you have the receipt for that work? The decorative engine cover is missing. Are you just showing the motor without it on or is it missing?
    Thanks. Pretty car.
