Now available for auction is this 2001 BMW E38 740i M-Sport finished in rare Imola Red II over a black leather interior with wood trim. The E38 is the third generation of the 7-Series, BMW’s flagship luxury performance sedan. Representing the final year of production for the E38, this 2001 example features the desirable M-Sport Package and is reported by the E38 7-Series Registry to be one of only 287 examples in this striking color. Highlighting a long history of dealer service and some considerable recent maintenance items, this 740i shows approximately 101k-miles on the odometer and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
This example is finished in the highly uncommon shade Imola Red II (405), and the seller reports some areas of the car to have likely been refinished under previous ownership. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. As a 2001 model equipped with the P337 Sports Package, this 740i received full color-matched bumpers, Shadowline black exterior trim, and 18” BMW Style 37 “M-Parallel” wheels. These wheels were previously refinished and come dressed in Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 tires.
The cabin is trimmed in black leather with decorative wood veneers. Some signs of wear are noted on the driver’s seat and headliner. All gauges and accessories are said to be functioning properly with the exception of a few missing pixels on the LCD display. Factory features include the heated 18-way BMW Sport Contour seats, heated rear seats, a power rear sunshade, HiFi DSP audio system, and an M-Sport multifunction steering wheel.
Under the hood, the 740i is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.4L V8 engine producing 282 HP and 325 lb.-ft of torque. The M-Sport package includes a lowered sports suspension and 5-speed Steptronic sport-tuned automatic transmission that allows the 740i to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in as little as 5.9 seconds. This particular E38 is reported to have been dealer maintained up until 77k-miles with the corresponding records included. The entire front suspension was rebuilt with OEM parts in November of 2020 and a recent service was carried out in preparation for sale which included new power steering lines. @Charles84AE there are no rattles or noise when the engine starts. A recent service was done to address a leak from the power steering lines. All lines were replaced with new OE parts. This 740 does not have parking sensors.
@Imperial I doubt if the timing chain and guides have been replaced. Does the engine rattle upon start up and are there any oil leaks? I recently totaled my 2001 black on black 740i M sport with every option including parking sensors. Does this car have front and rear parking sensors? I can't tell from the photos. Thanks.

@mas007 I posted pictures with the paint meter. The numbers are a little bit on the higher side indicating possible paint in some areas but it is to a very high standard. There are no obvious signs and paint has a beautiful shine.

@AlanS the previous owner replaced the control arms and other suspension components due to age. We are not aware of the timing chain guides being replaced but the engine makes no noise and is smooth. I will search the previous service records that total close to 15k over its lifetime to see if there is any record of this.
@Imperial Can you provide more details on the suspension work recently done? Have the timing chains/guides been replaced? If not, making any noise? Beautiful car. I miss my 2000 740i Sport Black/Black with a full boat of Dinan goodies.
