Vehicle Details

  • Year: 2001
  • Make: BMW
  • Model: M Coupe
  • VIN: WBSCN934X1LK60013
  • Mileage: 88,000
  • Transmission: Manual
  • Title Status: Clean
  • Color: Estoril Blue
  • Seller Type: Private Party
  • Location: Monument, CO 80132
  • Lot #: V-0042957-DT

Among BMW’s lowest volume production cars ever, a total of 678 U.S. specification S54-equipped M Coupes were produced featuring a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. This example is one of only 51 finished in Estoril Blue over Estoril Blue & Black Nappa leather and of those, one of 38 to have been equipped with a sunroof. Modified with a Dinan Stage 1 tune, this M Coupe is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Colorado with approximately 88k miles showing on the odometer.

Designed to increase the torsional and structural rigidity of the Z3 roadster’s chassis, the M Coupe only borrows the body panels ahead of the A-pillars. However, it can be distinguished from the standard Z3 by its revised front fascia, widened rear fenders, and side air vents. This example comes finished in Estoril Blue (335) and features a sunroof, replacement black kidney grilles, and added magnetic stone guards, and rear wheel spacers. It rides on refinished 17” Style 40 wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires from 2023. The seller notes the hood and front bumper were refinished and the roof was touched up by the professionals at Eurocars Collision in Colorado. A carbon-printed wrap was also applied to the roof and the seller recommends refinishing the area. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin offers Estoril Blue and Black Nappa leather (Q6ES) upholstery. Equipment includes power-adjustable heated sport seats, a leather-wrapped M steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, a BMW Business CD stereo, a trunk-mounted CD changer, and a Harmon Kardon sound system. New floor mats have been added, and modifications include a ZHP shift knob and a LeatherZ Mark 1 armrest with Homelink. The seller notes some scuffing on the seat bolsters near the seatbelts and the rearview mirror was refinished to restore the auto-dimming capability.

The 3.2-liter inline 6-cylinder engine sends 315 HP stock to the rear wheels through a ZF 5-speed manual transaxle with a factory-equipped limited-slip differential (3.15) allowing for a 0-60 time of approximately 5 seconds. Compared to the standard Z3, the M Coupe is equipped with a firmer suspension, thicker anti-roll bars, more robust semi-trailing arms, and a strengthened subframe. The seller adds that a Dinan Stage 1 tune was installed under previous ownership. The CARFAX report shows a total of 20 service history entries while other noteworthy service and modifications are said to include the following:

  • Alignment
  • Connecting rod bearings replaced at 4,677 miles (with BMW service bulletin)
  • New clutch
  • New floor mats
  • New idler pulley
  • New key
  • New lift gate shocks
  • New rear shock mounts
  • New seat bushings
  • New shifter knob
  • New tires
  • New water pump
  • New water pump pulley
  • Replaced all fluids

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, an air pump, and sales literature.

The seller would like you to know: “This car is absolutely beautiful. It looks amazing and drives like a dream! This is your chance to own arguably one of the best M cars ever produced, in the best color combination! This is a car that you can truly consider as an investment; it is almost certain to increase in value! I wish I could keep it.”

    @gsteeger Jonathan is the man.

  • gsteeger (seller) 2 days, 2 hoursago

    @LSB_Roady good thoughts. It has been posted on most of those but not Clownshoe pages. I’ll add a link there. It’s been posted on Jonathan Martin’s page since the beginning and I’ve had a few conversations with him.

  • LSB_Roady 2 days, 2 hoursago

    @gsteeger Put it on the Facebook Clownshoe pages for starters. We are nuts for these cars and know what we're looking at. Heck, if you'll trade for a 3.0 coupe and an LSB S54 roadster, I might buy it! (only half joking there, LOL). You should join and post the link in these Facebook groups, if you're not already a member: "BMW M & Z3 Coupe Enthusiasts" and "Coupe Cartel | BMW M Coupe and Z3 Coupe Owners & Enthusiasts" are the two biggest. MCoupeBuyersGuide.com has also picked it up and is showing it now. Jonathan Martin who owns that is also, incidentally, in Colorado. His site is where I picked up my 3.0 Topaz/Topaz/slicktop (which also, incidentally, came from Colorado, LOL). Jonathan's site is THE definitive place where shoppers for these cars go. I literally NEVER even think about looking for these cars on PCM. In fact I forget it even exists, and I have a 991 Targa! Not trying to trash PCM, as I do think it's a great site, it's just that its name, by definition, doesn't make one think about cars that aren't Pcars. I think Bring a Trailer would have been a better auction site, but it's hit and miss there too. Market your car to the true enthusiasts, and I fully believe you'll sell it quickly. S54 cars are the holy grail for these cars, and they're only getting rarer.

    @LSB_Roady also, I think it got good visibility and has a good chance of still selling on here. I’m still hopeful that it will be seen by and go to the right buyer!

  • gsteeger (seller) 2 days, 3 hoursago

    @LSB_Roady what platform do you recommend?

  • LSB_Roady 2 days, 3 hoursago

    This car is worth waaaaaay more than 32k. It's just offered on the wrong platform, IMHO. @gsteeger you're not wrong on your pricing. While not a STEAL at 50k, it's also not dramatically overpriced at this price.

  • gsteeger (seller) 2 days, 12 hoursago

    @syncroadventure I appreciate the feedback.

    I’m basing this number on comparables - there are plenty out there to justify the number I came up with. There are also several that are way over what I’m asking and as said by another person on this thread that has seen my car, this car is immaculate. Our local BMW dealership has a comparable one for sale for $62.

  • syncroadventure (registered bidder) 2 days, 12 hoursago

    @gsteeger I mean no offense. I have bought and sold many cars. Some that I sold I thought were worth a lot more than they were. I always found that if a car is not getting any interest at the price listed, well it’s not getting any interest. I come to terms with it and lower the price $500 a week, and at some point, my email starts blowing up. Love it or hate it, that is the market. If a car is sitting for 6 months, there is no arguing, the price is too high. All that being said, I hope you get $50,000 for it.

    @gsteeger *my car

  • gsteeger (seller) 2 days, 21 hoursago

    @syncroadventure Thanks for bidding!

    I don't think the market right now is $32K for this car. The black one listed on here just before mine sold for $43. IMO, my care is a lot nicer (better condition, better history with no accidents, and better maintenance record).

  • syncroadventure (registered bidder) 2 days, 21 hoursago

    I’ve been following a lot of different cars that have been for sale for a long time. This is the market right now. If you bought 2 years ago you paid a premium.

  • Reincar (registered bidder) 2 days, 22 hoursago

    If it's any help, I live in Colorado Springs and have seen this car in person. If I wasn't sitting on 16 cars myself, This would be the one! To say it is perfect understates the car. Flawless might be a better term for it. If you are looking for probably the best M Coupe for sale today, this is it! It's that simple. Bid price is too low right now but it usually costs a little more to buy the best example of any collectible car out there. Having multiple E Types and Porsches, I know this to be true. Don't let this one get away if you like blue.... THIS IS THE CAR!!!

    @syncroadventure Good news: I got the full warranty service from my local BMW dealership. I'll attach it here in just a minute. It shows rod bearings getting replaced in November 2001, at 4,677 miles.

  • syncroadventure (registered bidder) 6 daysago

    @gsteeger Let us know what you hear from the dealership. Thanks

  • gsteeger (seller) 1 weekago

    @syncroadventure I just added a photo of the some of the service records that I currently have. I'll let you know when I hear back from the dealership.

    @syncroadventure Unfortunately, when I bought the car from a dealer in Miami, I did not get all the service records from the previous owner.

    My local BMW dealership told me about the rod bearings being done and some other service they could see. I e-mailed the dealership this morning to see if I could get a printout of the work that was done, at BMW dealerships, prior to my ownership.

    I do have paperwork for all the work I've had done since purchasing the car.

  • syncroadventure (registered bidder) 1 weekago

    @gsteeger A couple other questions. Do you have documentation of the connecting rod bearing replacement noted in your description. Also, in searching the VIN I found a previous BAT auction for this car. In that auction there was a couple folders worth of service history. Do you have all of those service receipts still? Thank You

  • syncroadventure (registered bidder) 1 weekago

    @gsteeger Thank You

  • gsteeger (seller) 1 weekago

    @syncroadventure Sorry for the typo, it should say “I also had the roof touched up due to rock chips.”

  • gsteeger (seller) 1 weekago

    @syncroadventure Sure.

    The car has not been in any accidents.

    I repainted the hood and front bumper due to rock chips. I also had the roof touched, due to rock chips. The touch up on the roof was a temporary solution. I am very particular and wanted this car to look brand new so I planned on getting the roof fully repainted in the future.

    All the paint work was done by the best paint shop in town and by a painter that specializes in M colors, especially Estoril. The shop used to the collision center for the local BMW dealer. I have all the associated paperwork.

  • syncroadventure (registered bidder) 1 weekago

    Can you please comment on the repaint of the front bumper, hood and roof?

  • Oddestball (registered bidder) 1 weekago

    Perfect! Thank you

  • gsteeger (seller) 1 weekago

    @Oddestball I just added in the photos you requested (under the trunk insulation). See images 116-120. Let me know if you have additional questions and thanks for your interest.

    @Oddestball @Oddestball, good morning. I’ll see if I can get a couple pictures under the trunk insulation, without tearing it up.

  • Oddestball (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

    77,78,79

  • gsteeger (seller) 1 week, 1 dayago

    @Oddestball can you be more specific? What photo are you referring to? Are you referring to the insulation in the trunk?

  • Oddestball (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

    Thank you, but the cracked plastic cover is impeding the view.

  • gsteeger (seller) 1 week, 1 dayago

    @Oddestball see photos 73-81 and 89-95

  • Oddestball (registered bidder) 1 week, 1 dayago

    Is this where I ask for the photos we all need to see? Rear subframe mounts in the trunk area under the plastic tool tray and carpet as well as the diff mounts under the vehicle please.

  • gsteeger (seller) 1 week, 1 dayago

    @PT997 Well that's a silly reason to not buy a car :).

  • PT997 (registered bidder) 1 week, 2 daysago

    @gsteeger I would love to, but I’m not looking to buy anything just yet. Just auctioned off my 997 911 a few months ago on PCAR. Really love your car though! GLWTS

    This is one of my favorite cars! And I always refer to it as a Clown Shoe as you did in your opening comment! Love it! And you’re only an hour south of me. Very tempting.
