We are pleased to offer this 2001 BMW M Coupe finished in Black Sapphire Metallic over a black Nappa leather interior. One of the most coveted M-cars of all time, the M Coupe is equipped with an S54 inline 6-cylinder engine derived from the E46 M3, as well as a 5-speed manual transaxle paired with a limited-slip differential. This 2001 example is reported to be one of only 452 sunroof-delete cars produced for North America, and only 11 finished in Black Sapphire Metallic. This M Coupe was first registered in New York and spent the early years of its life in Pennsylvania before moving to Arizona in 2008 and then California in 2017. It has since been acquired by the seller Illinois who has carried out a recent service in preparation for sale. Highlighting a clean two-owner history on CARFAX while accompanied by the original owner’s manuals, window sticker, and service records, this M Coupe is now being offered for auction with just over 36k miles showing on the odometer.
This M Coupe is finished in the rare shade of Black Sapphire Metallic and features a highly sought-after factory sunroof delete. It can be distinguished from its standard Z3 counterpart by its revised front fascia, widened rear fenders, side air vents, and signature quad exhaust tips. The seller notes that a chip in the windshield has been filled in and that a small ding was recently repaired on the left rear quarter with paintless dent removal. Some minor signs of road-going wear are noted on the lower quarter panels as well as some curb rash on the wheels, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. This M Coupe rides on factory 17” Style 40 wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ dated from 2017.
Inside, this E36/8 is appointed with black Nappa leather upholstery as well as heated and power-adjustable seats. Factory features include a leather-wrapped M-Sport steering wheel, air conditioning, cruise control, and a premium Harmon Kardon sound system. A genuine ZHP Package shift knob has been installed and the cabin remains otherwise original in appearance with the factory BMW Business CD stereo equipped. The original black leather M shift knob is included with the sale as well.
A total of 678 M Coupes were equipped with the updated S54 engine derived from BMW’s E46 M3. This 3.2L inline 6-cylinder engine sends as much as 315 HP and 251 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a ZF 5-speed manual transaxle and factory limited-slip differential, allowing for a 0-60 time of approximately 5 seconds. Compared to the standard Z3, the M Coupe is equipped with a firmer suspension, thicker anti-roll bars, more robust semi-trailing arms, and a strengthened subframe. Recent maintenance carried out by the seller in April of 2021 includes an oil service and replacement of the drive belts. A VANOS system test was also conducted with results available for reference in the photo gallery. Some service records will accompany the sale and additional maintenance history is also provided on CARFAX.
This sale will include two sets of keys with remote fobs, the original owner’s manual, literature, and leather pouch, the original window sticker, factory shift knob, some service records, and a clean title. The rearview mirror operates 100%. No leaks and we see no evidence of it being replaced.

@etherwiggles great observation! It's no secret that the rear subframe is the Achilles heel of this chassis.
You are correct that this vehicle has not be reinforced or altered at this time. The photos you referenced show a shadow on the spot welds, however, there are no cracks. Close up photos w/ proper lighting will be uploaded by PCAR shortly!
There are a few different preventative options including reinforcing or polyurethane mounts even. For originality sake this one is still left as it was from the factory.

In pictures 157 and 159 pulled/cracked subframe spot welds are visible. A common issue on this car that needs to be remedied by the buyer ASAP to prevent further damage.
