Now available for auction at no reserve is this 2001 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet finished in Rainforest Green Metallic over a Savanna Beige interior.  In addition to its rare exterior color and desirable 6-speed manual transmission, this 2001 example came generously optioned with 18” Turbo-look wheels, supple leather seats, the Technic Package, and Power Seat Package along with Exclusive details including painted instrument dials, stainless steel exhaust pipes, and a 3-spoke leather steering wheel.  It was acquired by the current owner about three years ago and has since undergone extensive service including a full rebuild of the engine within the last 3k miles.  It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida while showing approximately 111k miles on the odometer.

The Carrera was ordered in the rare shade of Rainforest (Jungle) Green Metallic along with optional 18” light alloy Turbo-Look wheels with colored Porsche center crests.  A removable hardtop has been sourced and painted to match the exterior, and a set of GT3-style flared rocker panels were added along with rear bumper fins.  Within the last several months, a full professional paint correction and ceramic coating were carried out as well as refinishing of three wheels to address curb rash.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a CARFAX report showing an accident to have occurred to the right rear end in 2002.  The wheels are currently dressed in a set of mixed tires with date codes from 2015 and 2018 in front.  The rear tires are dated from 2005 and are recommended for replacement due to age.

Inside, this 996 features a Savanna Beige interior with supple leather seats, a 3-spoke leather steering wheel, and Exclusive instrument dials painted in Savanna Beige.  Other factory features include the Power Seat Package, Heated Front Seats Package, and the Technic Package which adds Litronic Bi-Xenon headlamps with washers, a CD storage compartment, and an onboard computer.  Some scratches are noted on the center console as well as some signs of wear on the seating surfaces and both of the vanity mirror covers are broken. The seller confirms all accessories and instrumentation to be working properly including the power cabriolet top, heated seats, and aftermarket Alpine radio.

This 996 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.4L flat-six engine that sends up to 296 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission.  The engine is said to have been fully rebuilt at just over 109k miles due to bore scoring and was fitted with new pistons, rings, timing chains, guides, tensioners, valve seals, a thermostat (low temp), spark plugs, and an air/oil separator.  The front radiators and condensers were also removed and cleaned during this time along with the installation of an auxiliary radiator from a Tiptronic car for additional cooling.  An LN Engineering IMS bearing upgrade is said to have been installed at 89k miles which was reused during the engine build.  The catalysts have been removed and an upgraded K&N air intake has been installed.  A service completed in September of 2020 included all new coil packs, a new mass airflow sensor, and an O2 sensor.  More recently, another O2 sensor was replaced along with a knock sensor and the oil fill tube, and an oil and filter change was carried out.  The seller adds that a proper break-in procedure was observed following the engine rebuild.

This sale will include a collection of records, the original airbox, and a clean title. Offered at no reserve with a freshly rebuilt engine, this beautifully configured 996 represents an amazing value.

@navchak @navchak, cats are readily available, but won't be included in sale. That would be the only thing this car needs to pass SMOG.

  • navchak (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Just realized this has been decatted. Would it be possible to get cats back on so it can pass California SMOG?

Ok everyone, last few hours!! I’ll keep an eye out for any last minute questions. I submitted the pictures of the odometer, vin plate, and vehicle to the dealership that recorded the odometer wrong and fix is in process!

@navchak Correct! The soft top is down and tucked away behind the seats when the hard top is on. If you remove the hard top, the soft top then becomes available to use with no additional steps.

  • navchak (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Does the hardtop go on the top of the car with the soft top retracted? Thanks.

Hi everyone, thanks for the bids! I wanted to let everyone know I happen to be in Pennsylvania and I stopped to see my old manager at the dealership that recorded the mileage wrong on the carfax. He said it’s an easy fix and will have it rectified within a few days after I send him the required information. I’ll get on this ASAP, should be in process by tomorrow! Let me know if their are anymore questions!

@buccicone it had timing codes and I found the guides were worn. But upon further inspection there were two cylinders on the passenger side (bank 2) that had minor bore scoring. I thought taking the engine out and not addressing the bore scoring would be a wasted effort. So as disappointed as I was to find out it wasn’t going to be a simple chain and guide job, I bit the bullet and started amassing parts for a rebuild.

  • buccicone (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

So what was the reason for the engine rebuild? From the pictures it looks like chains & guides went bad?

@cduknblus yes it’s a clerical error, the dealer I bought it from improperly recorded the miles. As you can see they were corrected at the next service and all line up with the current mileage, and previous mileages in the extensive service history.

  • cduknblus 2 years, 8 monthsago

Looks like there's some value here... Can you provide some info regarding the odometer discrepancy noted on the Carfax?... Thanks...

The top has a pinhole in it, which was sealed by the previous owner. The soft top needs replacement, and a new canvas is provided, I always kept it inside, drove with the top down or had the hard top on, and so I just never got around to replacing the canvas.

  • timgal1234 2 years, 8 monthsago

Hi thanks for the comments! The ims bearing is a ln engineering, it was reused because they do not fail, and do not have a need for replacement. It was inspected by a Porsche tech and reused. It only had 20k miles on it at the time also.

As far as a rebuild kit, I am not aware of one being offered. All of the parts were sourced through either pelican parts, or the local Porsche dealer. The flanged cylinder liners were purchased from Westwood in the uk. They have a great reputation and make a fantastic product. The engine was removed by me (a certified bmw/mini master tech) and stripped down, then the machine work performed and the block re-assembled by a reputable Porsche Indy. I then reinstalled the engine in the car. I provided all the records, and they should be individually scanned and uploaded at some point here.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

So rebuilt engine as expensive as that can be and no new IMs bearing. That doesn’t make sense to me at all. Anyway who rebuilt the engine and what kit did they use? Thanks.

Hi everyone, following up behind Tim's comment. We are here to answer any of your questions on the 911! We are exciting to be working with Pcarmarket to let this baby go to a good home. We appreciate those taking the time to look and share. At no reserve, this will certainly keep us at the edge of our seats until the hammer drops!

  • timgal1234 2 years, 8 monthsago

Hi everyone, this vehicle is being offered on my behalf by Wergs Automotive. The owner at Wergs has tons of information about this car, and it can be seen in person during regular business hours by appointment. If there are any questions or concerns one or both us will respond ASAP, we will both be watching the auction closely, and are very pleased to offer this great 911 cab. This car is like one of my children and has been treated as such, unfortunately I’m not getting the use and enjoyment out of it that my family would get from a larger boat, which is why I am selling. Have fun bidding and please contact us or comment and we will happily answer any and all questions. Thank you!
