Up for auction is this low mileage 2001 Porsche 996 Turbo Coupe finished in Seal Grey Metallic over a grey leather interior. Featuring the coveted Mezger powerplant alongside a 6-speed manual transmission and an aftermarket exhaust system, this example is not to be overlooked. With the odometer showing only 23k original miles, this car is being offered by the selling dealer out of California.
The Seal Grey Metallic finish is said to be in excellent condition with paint protection film covering the front bumper, hood, fenders and mirrors. (detailed images can be found within the photo gallery). Exterior features include distinctive wide factory fenders, a speed-activated rear spoiler and optional front bumperette delete. Exterior modifications are limited to clear side markers and 997 Turbo wheels which come wrapped in new Hankook V12 tires.
Inside, you will find a grey leather interior that is contrasted by factory red seat belts along with carbon fiber accents on the steering wheel, shift knob, and parking brake handle. The seller notes that there are very little flaws to the interior (photos showing minimal wear can be seen in the photo gallery). Amenities include power-adjustable front seats with driver’s side adjustable lumbar support, automatic climate control and power windows. An aftermarket Pioneer head unit has been installed while the factory optional six-disc CD changer remains fitted in the trunk. All features are said to be in proper working order.
This 996 is equipped with a coveted 3.6L flat-six turbocharged Mezger engine rated at approximately 415 HP and 415 lb-ft or torque. All four wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission making for a factory claimed 0-62 time of just 4.2 seconds. An aftermarket exhaust system has been installed under previous ownership.
This sale will include one key, original books, jack, toolkit, spare tire, compressor, a clean CARFAX report and a clean title.

The wheels are from 997tt these have different offset than 996tt. Most that run these run em w spacers. One question I have is why does the left side motor mount look like it was installed w a jack hammer?

@viavaquero I would really suggest you obtain a DME. To some it’s gospel. We have no way to tell what this engine has been through over the last 22k miles of it’s life. A DME can be the fuel that drives this car higher or a kill shot.
Bid in the amount of $25,000
I do not have a DME report. If a prospective buyer would like to have a DME report done I would suggest Porsche of Monterey or C&C, a local independent Porsche Shop.
Can you provide a DME report?
The Porsche factory OEM/BBS 18” Turbo Twist II Wheels for all 2001-2005 Turbo Cars, except GT2 (and GT3) were:
Front - 8J x”18” Tires 225/40/18 Backspace 50mm
Rear - 11J x”18” Tires 295/30/18 Backspace 45mm
996 Turbos “never” came from the Porsche Factory with “19” wheels.
The wheels on this car are 19” Porsche factory OEM/BBS 997 Turbo Wheels
I fit 18” 997 Carrera III C4 Wheels on my 2001 996 Turbo which required 7mm front wheel spacers and 6mm rear wheel spacers. Also, required 5mm longer lug bolts intended for 996 GT2 & GT3 application.
Therefore, if no spacers have been installed to correct the 996 track, to 997 track specifications, it would account for the face of the 997 19” Turbo Wheels not appearing to stick out far enough, or sunken in from the fender lip.
The gap in clearance between the top and sides of the tires and the fenders are intentional to allow fitting approved OEM Porsche snow cable chains exacerbated by the US DOT higher ride height requirement. Other Countries allow lower ride height, and Porsche obliged by shipping 996 cars with different hight springs for better handling outside the US.
Some people exchange their 18” 996 wheels for the larger diameter 19” 997 wheels for looks, then run lower profile 19” tires to keep their speedometer and odometer reading accurately. But, in doing do, care must be taken to backspace 997 wheels accurately, to 996 track specs, and run appropriately longer wheel bolts.
@guitarnyc all wheels have an offset value...distance from the mounting surface plane to the centerline of the wheel. Perhaps there is a different offset value between the 996 factory and the 997 factory wheel.
@viavaquero Those are the correct rear tire sizes on a 2001 Turbo. Those rear wheel wells just so empty and weird. Wheels should be pretty flush with the lines of the car and they are not here for some reason. I only keep trying to figure it out because I've like to bid on this car and I'm hoping someone has an idea why. Do 996 Turbos come with some sort of spacers so the rear wheels fill out the wheel wells better from the factory?
Here is a stock 2001 Turbo with OEM wheels from the same angle. Wheel wells look properly filled out

I just viewed physically to double check the tire sizes. The rear tires are 295/30 and the front tires are 235/35.
@guitarnyc Agree, it almost looks like front wheels x 4. Those don’t look like 295’s... shouldn’t they be 315’s minimum?

Factory Installed Options are: (CO2) 50 States Emissions, (586) Drivers Seat Lumbar Support, (XPD) 3 Spoke Steering Wheel in Carbon/Leather, (XSX) Guards Red Seat Belts, (692) Remote CD Changer (6-Disc)
Please note the Turbo version comes with many Standard Features that are options on other 911/996 Models, such as Sport Chassis, Bi-Xenon Headlights, etc.
The Turbo has recently Passed CA Smog Testing on 3/2/2021, certificate is included with sale.
Other recent services include: new coolant tank, clutch slave with a flush and bleed of the clutch fluid. Receipts included with purchase.
Is it possible to get a decoded list of the factory installed options? Does the car pass CARB smog tests?

The rear tires are, 295/30 ZR 19, and the front tires are, 235/35 ZR 19
What are the tires sizes on the rear? The rear looks very odd like the wheels are "inside" rather than flush with the lines like the stock twists. Trying to figure out why.
Georgeyd Thanks that's good to know, what diameter are they, condition, off of what model/year Porsche? How much would you be asking? What area are you located?
IVE GOT A GREAT SET OF OEM TURBO WHEELS IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED.
The wheels on the Turbo that can be viewed in my pictures are the wheels that go with the sale. I do not have the original OEM wheels.
I have no records indicating that the pipes have been pinned or welded. I can tell you the Turbo has no leakes of any kind. It is stored in its own garage which has a carpeted flooring. Again, no signs of any leaks,

Seller can you provide the OEM wheels that belong on the cart? These are clearly aftermarket replicas.
Have the water pipes been welded or pinned? Txs
