Now up for auction is this 2001 Porsche 986 Boxster Gemballa tribute.  A lifelong California car, this 986 has just recently completed a two-year carbon fiber composite Gemballa Avalanche-style body conversion at a cost of over $40k.  It comes finished in Heritage Blue and features a Spyder-style rear deck, 19” Gemballa wheels, and a completely custom two-tone Alcantara interior.  Having recently surpassed its 100-mile “break-in” period, this no-expense-spared one-off Gemballa-inspired Boxster is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Ventura, California.

Said to have been inspired by the experimental Bugatti Bolide concept, this Boxster is finished in a custom shade of Heritage Blue with exposed carbon fiber accents.  The PPG paintwork alone is said to have cost $12k. The Gemballa Avalanche-style body conversion includes new front and rear bumpers, rocker panels, fenders, air intakes, mirrors, a front hood, and a rear wing, as well as updated 997-style LED headlights.  This example has also been customized with a Spyder top conversion kit at an additional cost of over $8k.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  This Boxster rides on 19” Gemballa-style wheels with blue accents and Hankook tires featuring custom removable lettering.

Inside, the driver is greeted by a completely custom two-tone interior with grey and blue Alcantara upholstery as well as diamond-stitched inserts on the seats, door panels, and lower dashboard.  The center console, air vent surrounds, handbrake trim, inner doorsills, turn signal stalks, and gauge bezels have all been painted in Heritage Blue. A three-spoke Gemballa-inspired steering wheel has also been added along with GT3-style bucket seats, carbon fiber Gemballa-logo door entry guards, and Avalanche-logo floormats.  The factory climate controls, stereo, and speakers have all been retained.

This 986 carries its original 2.7L flat-six engine which sends up to 217 HP and 192 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission.  H&R lowering springs have been installed, and the alternator and battery were recently replaced following an inspection by an experienced Porsche technician.  The car has traveled approximately 66k miles from new with just over 100 miles added since the completion of the build.

This sale will include a clean title.  A 986 unlike any other, this 2001 Gemballa-inspired Boxster Spyder is sure to turn heads wherever it goes.

@BoxsterSx2 Correct... Good eye (& memory)! After thinking about it back then, we decided not to sell it. It's been sitting, ever since the wonderful corona virus... as we have so many other projects that kept us very busy. It still has only been driven the approximate 100 miles since completion. It seems to be a better time to sell it now than compared to a year or 2 ago.

Saw some of these same photos and a video on the internet offering this exact same car for sale in 2019????

  • saga1113 2 years, 9 monthsago

@NickM What's your YouTube site address or channel name?

  • NickM (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@saga1113 355's can be turned into F40LM identical replicas (except for engine). As can
308's & 328's. We'll be posting on Youtube how to build one of those (complete build from start to finish) within the next few months. All body parts carbon fiber composite, just like this custom built "Avalanche" Boxster! ;o)

@saga1113 We don't have and official IG site... although we/I do have one named porsche.and.ferrari but stopped posting quite a while ago as it requires lots of
attention... and we don't have much time to devote to "new" work... we're working
6-7 day work weeks as it is (with little to no advertising). lol

  • saga1113 2 years, 9 monthsago

I appreciate the detailed response. Thank you! Do you have a website or IG to view your previous builds? Would love to see your Ferrari builds especially if you've done any 355s ?

  • NickM (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Thanks for asking saga1113. Sorry for being so long-winded. hehe I could have gone on more. But I'm sure you understand. The car was built to sell afterword, then move onto another fun project.

  • NickM (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@saga1113 It was built to sell. We've done this for 30+ years with custom built Porsches & Ferraris). Instead of building a car to customer specs... we'll have fun and build our own
spec-ed Porsche or Ferrari & not be forced to build a project that has little of no interest to us (ie: not "exciting" to us). Our specialty is carbon fiber composite body parts... we've assisted Ferrari Los Angeles race team (7 race seasons) in repairs of perhaps 1000's of their race-destroyed parts... as well as building our own unique Ferrari parts. This car (Gemballa Avalanche style) has always been one of my favorite designs... going back to the late 80's. This car was built so someone could literally have a turn-key purchase and not have to wait 1 to 2 years for it for a car of their dreams to be built (Singer etc...). Then cross their fingers the entire time that their chosen shop is actually capable of finishing a project like this, and doing a great job (lots of stress there, if you've ever had a car custom built for you).

@saga1113 IMS not done. I've easy the horror stories on the internet, then talked to three of my buddies who are Independent Porsche mechanics... they say get it done when getting work done on the car (maybe a clutch replacement) but not a need to really go out of the way for it's replacement... as this issue has been very much hyped on the internet in their opinion. So....

  • saga1113 2 years, 9 monthsago

Also, has the IMS been replaced?

  • saga1113 2 years, 9 monthsago

With the build being complete ~100miiles ago, why are you selling so soon?
    Thanks!

This is a great looking, running and diving custom built Porsche, built by a company that specializes in carbon fiber composite custom built Porsches & Ferraris. The car was completes abut 100 break-in-miles ago and was also appraised (for insurance) over $87K. Buyer will get the appraisal which can be used to fully insure the car for it's appraised value. The reserve price on the car is set low, so happy bidding! Any questions that I can answer? Please ask away. ;o)
