This 2001 Porsche 986 Boxster is finished in Lapis Blue Metallic over a Savanna Beige partial leather interior and came factory equipped with optional 17” Boxster Design wheels, Porsche color crested wheel caps, the Sport Package, and Porsche Stability Management. This first-generation Boxster was acquired by the current and second owner in 2017 from Larchmont Porsche and is said to have since been fortified with an upgraded IMS bearing. This 986 is being offered by its seller out of New York with approximately 43k miles on the odometer.
This 986 comes finished in Lapis Blue Metallic with a Metropol Blue power-retractable soft top which was replaced in 2018 with a glass rear window. The optional 17” Boxster Design wheels with colored Porsche crests come wrapped in Continental Contact tires dated 2017. The seller notes minor scratches near the gas cap. In the gallery, you will find a collection of detailed images along with a CARFAX report which shows minor damage reported on the right and right rear side of the vehicle in 2018.
Inside, the driver is situated within a Savanna Beige partial leather interior including automatic climate control, power windows, and door locks. Factory options include a CD shelf center console and the P09 Sport Package which consists of a wind stopper, car alarm, cruise control, and the Hi-Fi Sound System. The center console, cup holders, and radio knobs are said to have been replaced, and the seller notes minor wear on the driver's seat backrest. All gauges and accessories are reported to be working properly.
A mid-mounted 2.7-liter flat-six engine rated at 217 HP drives the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual gearbox. An IMS bearing replacement is said to have been completed at Larchmont Porsche in 2017 and a new water pump was also installed. Additionally, Porsche Stability Management was factory-optioned. All maintenance is said to have been performed as necessary and the CARFAX report shows a total of 22 service history entries. Corresponding records are said to accompany the sale.
This sale will include two keys, owner’s manuals, some documentation, a window sticker, and a clean title.

@tjatja925 Tires lose their elasticity at around the six year mark, no matter how good the tread looks.
These tires were installed in 2017 and are due to be replaced.
(I learned this the hard way, crashing my 993 cabrio into a tree with beautiful LOOKING 7 year old tires).
@Porschelover30 spark plugs and tubes replaced at 34,000 miles.
The IMS was replaced with L&N bearing.

You are to be commended for always using the Porsche dealer for maintenance.
You usually pay more but you get the best service that way 99% of the time.
Unfortunately, the other 1% may be with IMS bearings.
It is for sure that you had it replaced at a big expense.
I’m relatively certain that they would have used a Porsche bearing.
The question becomes has Porsche improved the stock bearing that they use as a replacement for their loyal customers such as yourself?
We may never know.
I have had 2 L&N IMS bearings installed by after market repair shops at a cost of around 2k each (and chose NOT to do 2 thus “rolling the dice” on my 08 Cayman and 99 Carrera).
What we do know is that the car has had a fresh one installed, and for that you get an A for effort.
@On2luck I phoned them twice and have not heard back I will reach out again this morning. I did post the original invoice from the dealer showing the work performed. I know this doesn’t quell your concern however you can see it was completed.

@Porschelover30 yes I have all the original work that was done as part of the sale. I also have all the original documentation and receipts from the original owner.
Let me take that back...I do not mean to cast doubt on sellers statements I would just like to see what ever documentation there is that pertains to IMS even if incomplete - Thanks
Could you please post the document showing the IMS replacement - even if it does not show the parts.At this point without any documentation I am thinking that one has to assume that an IMS was not done?

@On2luck I am phoning the dealer where i purchased the Boxster. I do have the receipt for the IMS replacement however, it doesn’t show a parts list breakdown. The cost was $3500.00 in 2017.

@On2luck I have the paperwork for the IMS revision with me I will look to see if they have a detailed list of the repair. Are you interested in my beautiful Boxster? We have driven a total of 16,000 miles over 6 years without ever having any issues with this vehicle. It is great.
If the IMS bearing was replaced by the Porsche dealer, what type of bearing would they have used?
The original bearings made by Porsche have a design flaw that created this entire problem.
Isn’t it likely that they installed another potentially flawed Porsche bearing?
The bearings that fix the problem are aftermarket products by LN engineering, which are quite a bit more expensive.

Good afternoon, The IMS Bearing was overhauled when I purchased the vehicle. I will have to check with my mechanic with regard to the clutch being visually inspected. He is not available until Monday. I have had no issues. this Boxster runs and shifts wonderfully.
Is there any information on the clutch or IMS bearing being visually inspected?
