Regarded among the greatest sports sedan of all time, the E39 M5 was the first BMW M5 to feature a V8 engine as well as aluminum front suspension and a multi-link rear end which provided excellent handling characteristics. The model underwent a facelift in 2000 which included new LED taillights and distinctive “angel eye” headlamps. This 2002 example comes finished in Carbon Black Metallic over a Silverstone and Black Nappa leather interior and features a 6-speed manual transmission paired with its 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine. The car is also equipped with optional xenon headlights, Park Distance Control (PDC), a Dinan cold air intake, and an upgraded Dinan axle-back exhaust. Benefitting from several considerable maintenance carried out by the seller since their purchase in 2022, this M5 is now being offered for auction out of Florida with approximately 67k miles on the odometer.

The M5 is distinguished from the standard E39 5-Series model range by its aggressive front and rear bumper design, side skirts, rounded aerodynamic mirrors, and trunk lid spoiler. This example is finished in Carbon Black Metallic with Shadowline exterior trim and factory 18” Style 65 wheels in Chrome Shadow. Other features include Dinan quad exhaust tips, rear parking sensors, window tints, xenon headlights, and a sliding glass sunroof. The seller notes the bumpers were refinished under prior ownership and the windshield cowl and weatherstripping were recently replaced along with the front fender lines. The wheels were also mounted with new Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires in March 2023. Some imperfections are noted on the roof above the windshield and on the right front fender as well as fading on the left headlamp lens. The cabin is trimmed in a combination of Silverstone and Black Nappa leather with brushed aluminum accents across the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Driver amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated and power-operated seats, an M Audio system, a navigation system, a power rear sunshade, rear window roller blinds, cruise control, M-specific gauges, and a three-spoke M Sport multifunction steering wheel. The seller notes that the inner door vapor barriers were resealed in 2022 along with replacements of the driver’s seat adjustment cables, driver’s airbag, and front passenger seatbelt buckle. A crack is also noted on the trim above the passenger seat adjustment controls as well as a broken plastic piece on the right rear window shade.

The aluminum 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine was rated at 400 HP and 369 lb.-ft of torque and features electronically actuated individual throttle bodies and double-VANOS variable valve timing. Power is sent to the rear wheel by way of a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The engine has been upgraded with a Dinan cold air intake and axle-back exhaust system. The seller notes the front control arms, sway bar end links, and tension struts were replaced in July 2022. Other services in 2022 included a new thermostat, coolant expansion tank, coolant system O-rings, coolant temperature sensor, drivetrain mounts, driveshaft flex disc, oxygen sensors, and transmission and differential fluid changes. The clutch is said to have been replaced in 2016 and the most recent oil service was completed in July 2023.
