Available for auction is this 2002 BMW E36/7 Z3 M Roadster finished in Titanium Silver Metallic over a black Nappa leather interior. Equipped with an S54 inline 6-cylinder engine borrowed from the E46 M3 along with a 5-speed manual transaxle and limited-slip differential, this 2002 Z3 M Roadster is reported to be one of only 643 examples produced for the final model year. This rare S54-equipped Roadster is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Connecticut showing approximately 43k miles on the odometer.
This M Roadster is finished in Titanium Silver Metallic with a power-retractable black soft top. The M roadster can be distinguished from the standard Z3 by its wider rear track, aerodynamic wing mirrors, redesigned front and rear bumpers, vented fenders, and quad-exit exhausts. The factory 17” Style 40 "Roadstar" wheels come dressed in Continental Extreme Contact tires. Additional photos are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
Inside, this BMW features a black Nappa leather interior highlighted by a pair of heated M sport seats, a leather-wrapped M-sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals, an M shift knob, and M-specific instrumentation with chrome gauge bezels. Other equipment includes air conditioning, cruise control, power accessories, and a premium Harmon Kardon sound system.
For the final evolution of the Z3 M, a total of 1,544 examples were equipped with the updated S54 engine sourced from BMW’s E46 M3. This 3.2L inline 6-cylinder engine sends as much as 315 HP and 251 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a ZF 5-speed manual transaxle and factory limited-slip differential, allowing for a 0-60 time of approximately 5 seconds. Compared to the standard Z3, the M Roadster is equipped with a firmer suspension, thicker anti-roll bars, more robust semi-trailing arms, and a strengthened subframe. The CARFAX reports show 10 service records dating as far back as 2002, with the most recent being an inspection and oil service in December of 2021. I've been watching this listing with interest, and figured the question would have been asked by now. Picture # 47 shows the mileage in 7/25/17 at 52,822 ?

@MikeD only way I could find out was to have dealer run vin and they produced the complete history. My M3 had it performed and the action sticker from the door had been removed by prior owners. Carfax hasn’t been real reliable at times.
@Pramsay judging from the Carfax that most likely isn’t the case. I don’t know if every engine was impacted either, so might not be an issue.
As this is a 2002 S54 engine, do you know if the service actions have been performed from that 2004 action to replace the connecting rod bearings? I know they were noted for the M3, but this S54B32 motor is the same as the M3. It’s possible Z3 may not have been impacted.

Thanks for adding the trunk photos. Do you happen to know the story with the wheels- were they recently refinished or sourced from somewhere else? These look like the wheels from an early S52 car, not the shadow chrome wheels from an S54
