Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a Metropol Blue interior with leather seats, this 2002 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet was acquired by the current owner from Porsche of Austin, Texas, in 2017. It came factory optioned with the Comfort and Technic Packages as well as a 6-speed manual gearbox. Showing approximately 96k miles on the odometer, this Carrera is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Texas.

In 2002, the Carrera model line underwent a facelift including redesigned headlights derived from the 911 Turbo. The Arctic Silver Metallic finish on this Cabriolet is complemented by a Metropol Blue convertible top and chrome 18” Turbo-look wheels. The seller notes the car has been garage-kept throughout their ownership and a new convertible top was installed in 2017. Some minor scuffs are present on the chrome wheels as well as dents on the top of the front fenders and minor paint cracks around the front license plate. The car rides on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires showing production date codes from 2017 in the front and 2019 in the rear. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Metropol Blue interior highlights a pair of optional leather-trimmed seats and a three-spoke steering wheel. Other accessories include automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows and mirrors, driver seat memory, and an onboard computer. New carpet mats were installed in 2018 and the seller notes some switches have been replaced as needed throughout the years. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional including the original stereo system, although the pump for the windshield washer fluid needs replacement.

A naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine provides up to 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The seller reports that new catalytic converters and oxygen sensors were installed in 2021 along with new convertible top motors. Annual services and oil changes have been performed by a  Porsche dealership since 2017 including an inspection passed in February 2023.

This sale will include some documentation, the original owner’s manuals, sales literature, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this car as a weekend driver for over 5 years and stored it in my garage. The car is completely stock with new catalytic convertors installed by the dealership. I do not know if the IMS bearing has been upgraded, this is a common question for the 996 models.  The engine runs great, and it's a great color combination. My kids have enjoyed riding in this car, many happy memories!”

@shak0000 2021, I have had an oil change at the dealership at least once a year even though I've not been putting many miles on it. Feb 23 I had multi point inspection report completed on the car

When was the last major service? Brake flush, oil change, spark plugs, etc

  • Andysharp (seller) 1 yearago

@Wsarge on the passenger side just under the dent is an older scratch about half inch long that was there when I got the car. Don’t know what caused that one

  • Andysharp (seller) 1 yearago

@Wsarge my kids dropped shopping bags on them when lifting stuff out of the cargo space up front. Not just once but they got both sides. I haven’t gotten around to figuring out how to reach under the fender to push them out.

Tell me about the dents on the front fenders. Accident? Vandalism? Something fall on it?
    Thanks

@blakcar I don’t have any documentation that it has been done on this vehicle, and so I’ve always assumed it has not had the IMS bearing replaced/changed. I understand it’s a common problem with the 996 model, but affects a small percentage of engines. When I bought the car it already had 86,000 miles on it so I considered the risk low for me and if I ever worked on that area of the car I’d do the IMS piece of work too. The biggest maintenance jobs for me have been replacing the convertible roof and alignment of the roof sensors and replacing both of the catalytic converters due to an O2 sensor warning, so I never went near the engine or transmission. Hope this helps answer your question?
