Up for auction is this 2002 Porsche 996 Carrera 4S Coupe finished in Seal Gray Metallic.  Introduced in 2002, the 996 Carrera 4S sports the wide fenders and bumpers of the Turbo model along with a 3.6L flat-six engine sending power to all four wheels.  This first-year example was configured at an original sticker price of over $85k with a 6-speed manual transmission, the Advanced Technic Package, and a black full leather interior with Sport Seats.  Said to have been meticulously cared for by Porsche enthusiasts throughout its life, this 996 has received an upgraded IMS bearing, replacement clutch, an H&R coilover suspension, and is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Oklahoma while showing just over 60k miles on the odometer.

This 996 comes finished in Seal Gray Metallic and is characterized as a Carrera 4S by its Turbo-derived bodywork, 18” Turbo wheels, and model-specific reflector band spanning between the taillights.  Some imperfections are noted on the rear bumper which are said to have resulted from the minor rear-end damage reported on CARFAX in 2006.  The seller confirms that the damage was purely cosmetic and that no repair work has been carried out.  Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a full CARFAX report.  The 18” factory wheels are currently dressed in a set of Bridgestone Potenza tires dated from 2015.

Inside, this 2002 example showcases a premium black full leather interior with optional heated Sport Seats and the Advanced Technic Package which adds high-pressure headlight cleaners, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, projector-beam Xenon headlamps, and a remote CD changer.  The original radio remains in place and is operational, however, the screen does not display text.  The seller has received a $150 quote from a radio repair specialist to address this issue.  All other gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.

This 4S is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.6L flat-six engine that sends up to 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission.  An upgraded H&R coilover suspension has been installed and the previous owner had an upgraded IMS bearing installed along with a new clutch and rear main seal at 40k miles.  The seller notes the car has been maintained primarily through authorized Porsche dealers and there are no outstanding service items reported at this time. Some service records are provided for reference in the gallery.

This sale will include service records and a clean title. For any discerning driver in search of a 6-speed Porsche 996, this well-maintained and nicely appointed Carrera 4S makes an excellent choice.

A C4S is high desirable, but the 911 Turbo is still king of the 911s.

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@PMason thank you for the kind comment. I agree with you! These bidders are getting a great car. I hate to sell but only doing so to upgrade to a Turbo.

  • PMason (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Very nice example with reasonable mileage, sport seats and full leather. Would like to bid, but timing is not good for me at this time. GLWA, I believe $40K plus is entirely possible.

I am actively here awaiting any questions potential bidders may have. Feel free to ask anything!

@EAStulsa @abarto27 copy that. Thank you!

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@nbrown to my knowledge and from the previous owner, it is a full H&R coil over system. Please feel free to ask any more questions. I am here to answer.

  • nbrown (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@EAStulsa @abarto27 I think what @zdean808 is asking is whether you have springs that sit on an adjustable ride height perch, or if you have real coilovers that are a one-piece shock/spring combo with adjustable ride height and adjustable dampening. I would be interested to know as well. Thanks!

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    @zdean808 coil overs.

  • zdean808 2 years, 6 monthsago

@EAStulsa @abarto27 I am confused, does the car have a coil over suspension or is it just lowering springs?

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@zdean808 I can probably source factory springs if you’d like. I have a friend who just switched his to coil overs and has his factory springs.

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@card24 yes they are. It’s currently on its more aggressive setting and it’s sitting pretty low.

  • card24 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Are the H&R coil overs adjustable?

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@card24 no rust or corrosion beyond what you would assume. Car has been serviced since then but nothing major has been done. Just basic routine maintenance. That’s all it called for.

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@zdean808 do not have OEM suspension. DME can be done at buyers expense. If car does not sell, that is something we can discuss after the fact. Auction only has 3 days left and I will not be able to get a DME reading over the weekend.

  • zdean808 2 years, 6 monthsago

Do you have the OEM suspension? I’d also be interested in a DME if possible.

  • card24 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    A couple more:
    1. Any corrosion or rust underneath (beyond normal for age)?
    2. Have there been any recent services? The pictures only show records from '14 and '15

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@card24 no receipts nor paperwork in my possession that states when they were done. I was told by the previous owner that they were done in the last 10k miles. I have had no issues or concerns with the performance of them as that is also something I look at when purchasing a new car. No complaints here! No squeezing, lack in stopping power, or lipped rotors,

  • card24 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Thanks for your quick responses. Do you know when the brakes were last done? Trying to get an idea of the rotor and pad life remaining.

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@card24 all original and stock other than suspension! I drove a 996 4s with factory suspension and it rode nice, but no where near as nimble and sturdy feeling than the coil over system.

  • card24 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

Other than the suspension, are there any other aftermarket modifications?

  • card24 2 years, 6 monthsago

Bid in the amount of $21,000

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@card24 they still have lots of tread left. I would only consider switching them out due to their age, not the tread life.

  • card24 (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

What is the condition of the tires? Looks like they were new in 2015.

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@jtouzet both driver and passenger seats are fully functional with the exception of a manual slide for the bottom of the seat that scoots it forward and back.
Spoiler and sunroof and fully functional and work as intended.
H&R system is a coil over system. I do not have access to a lift so pictures are currently going to be unavailable as well as any part #’s or receipts. Everything is listed in the records I have from the previous owner.
I had the same thoughts on the front bumper so I compared it to others and they all look like they are “sagging”. I’m not sure if that’s from factory, or over time they do that. It is 100% normal and the ones that don’t look like they are “sagging”, have been repaired!

  • jtouzet (registered bidder) 2 years, 6 monthsago

    Good Day! Some questions..
Are both Driver & Passenger power seats fully functional/adjustable?
Are the Spoiler & Sunroof fully functional?
Listing states H&R Coilovers, but installation receipt specifies H&R Springs. Can you confirm which? Can you provide any photos, receipts, or part# for the suspension?
The front bumper seems to be misaligned. Has it ever been repaired, repainted, or removed?
    Thanks and Good Luck!

    Beautiful C4S! GLWA!

  • EAStulsa (seller) 2 years, 6 monthsago

@HighHope I believe you just login and may have to put bank Info in and then you should be able to I would assume. It says on your account you’re already a registered bidder.

Thank you for checking out my listing. I hate to see this car go but I came across another car so it needs to find a new home. Please let me know if you have any questions and I will be more than happy to accommodate you!
