Offered as the ultimate Carrera in Porsche’s 996 model range, the 4S sports the wide bodywork, brakes, and all-wheel-drive system of the 911 Turbo.  This 2002 example comes finished in Guards Red over a Black full leather interior featuring optional seats with Porsche crested headrests, the Advanced Technic Package, Leather Package, and exclusive aluminum inlays for the shifter and brake handle. It was acquired by the current owner almost three years ago and has since received a new clutch, water pump, radiators, front brakes, an LN Engineering IMS bearing retrofit, and much more.  This Carrera 4S is now being offered for auction out of Massachusetts with approximately 77k miles showing on the odometer.

This 996 comes finished in Guards Red and can be distinguished as a 4S by its Turbo-derived bodywork and model-specific reflector band between the taillights.  The factory 18” Turbo-look wheels have been recently refurbished and come paired with optional colored center crests, aftermarket 15mm spacers, and Sumitomo tires which were mounted about three years ago.  A new front bumper was installed following minor damage in October of 2020 along with refinishing of the hood and both front fenders to address stone chips.  The exterior is described to be in good overall condition with signs of wear consistent with the car's mileage, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in Black full leather upholstery including heated front seats with optional lumbar support and Porsche crested headrests.  Other options include the Advanced Technic Package, Leather Package (small), and aluminum inlays for the shifter and brake handle. The plastic trim pieces and leather upholstery exhibit some wear, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional although the passenger seat forward/reverse switch only works intermittently.

All four wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission paired with a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine producing as much as 320 HP 273 lb.-ft of torque.  Routine oil changes have been carried out every 3k miles by the current owner over the past three years along with replacement of the clutch, front differential seals, oil return tube, water pump, coolant tank, radiators, condenser, front brake pads and rotors, and an LN Engineering IMS bearing retrofit.

This sale will include a clean title.

Sorry, I’m holding at 40k. A silver one with similar miles, worse accident report went for more than I’m asking yesterday. I’ve owned the car, I didn’t buy to flip. Under my 3years:
    New radiators
    New Condenser
    LN IMSB and Seal
    clutch
    Front discs and pads
    Battery
    Waterpump
    coolant tank
    Struts
    Springs
    Strut Mounts (other)
    Wheels refinished
    Fister exhaust
    Oil fill tube
    Reverse switch
    15 mm spacers all around
    Other
Tires came new with car and now have <10k under 4 years old
Car comes with Durametric which reports healthy motor.
Just had front suspension checked yesterday by indie. Solid.
    Maybe I’m wrong but I think it’s a 40k car.
    Thanks for the offer.

i will be prepared to pay $38 as is. + the full auction fee.

  • dpico996 (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

Got back from Indie. Went through front suspension. All’s good. He believes the intermittent slow speed knock is the h&r lowering springs shifting just enough in bilstein b8 cradles to make some noise now and then. None issue other than occasional low sounding knock. I have the originals struts and springs that come with car.

  • dpico996 (seller) 1 year, 10 monthsago

Car developed clunk in front when I was driving Saturday. Please hold off bidding until further notice. Taking to shop tomorrow.

I have a friend in DC who asked me to look at this car since I am local. Wow…this C4S in GR really pops. My friend is a paint guy and this car’s paint presents to an extremely high standard. Interior to the same level. The car drives great as it should with the documented mechanical service.
My friends wife shot him down due to the fact he has GR 987.2 Cayman and SC. Very very nice example…

Last day everyone. My math isn’t all that but I think the auction ends at 330. Any questions, please shoot them off.
With that, I will close by saying this is a car I wouldn’t hesitate to drive anywhere mechanically and visually. The car just drives so smoothly from either a suspension or engine standpoint. Visually, Go to any Porsche show and a 996 C4S will draw attention. Throw in guards, the stance and the fister sound, even the purest air cooled are sneaking a peak.
Since no one asked, I’m selling to get a 4 seater. My kids aren’t small anymore and my friends are even bigger. Unfortunately, That back seat is useless for anyone over 5 feet IMO.

    Yes and a durametric

  • Mongoosedoc (registered bidder) 1 year, 11 monthsago

    Do you have both keys?

  • dpico996 (seller) 1 year, 11 monthsago

No, that is a touch up I did when I bought the car. I used an air brush on the spot. I hate blobbing paint on a brush. The rear bumper as far as I know is not resprayed. Front bumper definitely.
Bilstein b8 and h&r lowering springs.

What kind of springs/shocks are on the car? Maybe I overlooked it but didn't see it listed anywhere. And then in photo #25, is that the rear bumper? It looks like there is some clear coat failure which would make me think it was repainted at some point.

I’m adding a picture of a spot the in right rear quarter. Just noticed last night. Looks like a acorn hit it.
Took me 20 minutes to get photo.

Unfortunately “Yes”. ?. It works as it should.

I’ve added new Durametric screen shots (cam deviation, fuel trim, rev report, other) and a cold start video. I have the two oil filters from my last two oil filter changes if any one wants to see. People think I’m nuts for keeping them. Clean, no metal or plastic.

  • dpico996 (seller) 1 year, 11 monthsago

2 things. LN installed by certified installer.
It’s the passenger seat that forward back can be intermittent. Driver seat is fine.

  • dpico996 (seller) 1 year, 11 monthsago

Car has LN Imsb retrofit, not solution. 1st thing I did when I bought the car.

  • dpico996 (seller) 1 year, 11 monthsago

Welcome to the sale of my C4S. I’ve owned for almost 3 years and added about 8k miles. It’s been a great car that has been very dependable and never left me stranded. All the work I have done has been either preventative, personal preference (ride height and fister) and stuff the shop recommended when I brought in for other stuff. It’s a very comfortable car. Along with the car, it also comes with a Durametric to monitor the car. As of yesterday, no codes, good cam readings and one level 2 over rev from way before I bought the car. The story on the car is that a 82 year old gentleman owned the car. The kids took it from him and put it up for sale. I believe he was a bit of a close driver which is why I had the hood repainted and the fenders recleared.
Regarding the accident, someone hit me parked at a restaurant while on a road trip in NH. The bumper cover, left radiator and condenser were replaced. The radiator was showing signs of corrosion but never leaked so they recommended replacing. I had the right side done as a “while in there” since the shop mentioned showing it’s age as well. I attached a picture of the accident and the certification of the shop. Any questions, please let me know. As stated, it’s a great car. As my son says, regarding its looks; “it’s a neck breaker”.
