Now up for auction is this 2002 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet finished in Arctic Silver Metallic.  At an original sticker price of over $95k, this 2002 example came optioned with a 6-speed manual gearbox, Exclusive flared rocker panels, and 18” Light Alloy wheels along with a stunning Metropol Blue full leather interior featuring supple leather seats, deviated stitching, deviated seat inserts, the Advanced Technic Package, and the Design Package.  This 996 is said to have been specially ordered by the NASCAR racing team owner Rick Hendrick and has remained under the care of its original owner from new.  Reported to have been diligently maintained throughout the years including an IMS bearing replacement in 2015, this beautifully appointed 996 Carrera is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida with just under 39k miles showing on the odometer.

This 996 was ordered in Arctic Silver Metallic with a Metropol Blue soft top and Exclusive GT3-style flared rocker panels (X76).  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  This 996 rides on factory 18” Light Alloy Carrera wheels with optional colored Porsche center crests.  These wheels are currently dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport tires showing date codes from 2016.

Inside, the Carrera has been appointed with a Metropol Blue full leather interior with supple leather seats, deviated stitching, and deviated seat centers.  The optional Design Package (P71) adds Exclusive stainless steel door sill guards with model logos along with aluminum-look instrument dials and aluminum inlays for the shifter and brake handle.  Other options include the Power Seat Package, Heated Front Seats Package, and the Advanced Technic Package which adds high-pressure headlight cleaners, projector Xenon headlights, a remote CD changer, and an upgraded 11-speaker Bose audio system.  The cabin is described to have been well-preserved while showing wear consistent with the car’s mileage.  A hardwired connection for a radar detector has been installed and the seller reports that a new OEM replacement radio has just been installed.  All other accessories and electronics are said to be fully functional.

For the 2002 model year, the 996 Carrera received a larger 3.6L flat-six engine rated at 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual gearbox.  An upgraded K&N air intake has been installed and the original airbox will accompany the sale. The car is said to have been meticulously maintained by the Porsche specialists at Braman Porsche and Auto Sleuth in Florida, and the seller states that the IMS bearing was replaced on 2/20/2015.

This sale will include a set of two master keys, one valet key, the original owner's manuals, an airbox, a car cover, and a clean title. A tastefully configured and well-maintained example, this 6-speed 2002 Carrera Cabriolet makes a fine selection for any discerning driver in search of a Porsche 996.

@guardsredd other than physically seeing the old bearings which are included in the sale, I have not seen proof as far as a paper receipt. personally I’d rather see the old bearings in person than a receipt, easier to forge a receipt. No mention of the clutch.

@DWhelan Have you ever seen proof that the IMS was done, or just taking the word of a past owner. I don't know about others, but proof of the IMS fix is important to me, both as a cya move and if I ever sold it. Don't want to have to ever say, "well, I was told it was done".
Was the clutch done also at that time? Forgive me if it has been mentioned somewhere.

4 hours to go! Let’s get to bidding! Who is going to step up today and take home this exclusive automobile!

  • DWhelan (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@guardsredd no evidence or record of any accident whatsoever

  • DWhelan (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@guardsredd I do not have the physical records, though due to the few service facilities the car has seen through its multitude of services, it’s safe to say they could be obtained. The tie to Hendrick is not something I have documentation of, it is just what the seller and original owner told me, the origin of damage is only my theory based on the story of the car and many conversations with the seller

  • DWhelan (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@RK yes I do, there should be a photo of the original air box in the gallery.

  • DWhelan (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@someguyonearth I do not have the physical receipt, I do have the original bearings in a box with the date written on as pictured. I’m sure I could obtain the receipt from Auto Sleuth

Seller, do you have records for this car? Receipt for IMS fix?
Any evidence of Hendrick ownership? Or am I to read he ordered it, but did not purchase?
At some point it has been painted, but you do not know why and no evidence or record of an accident?
    Car presents nicely! GLWA!

  • MurderMammoth (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@DWhelan what a shame. Beautiful and unique car without the paintwork stigma. Hopefully it doesn’t eliminate the audience of potential buyers. Thank you for clarifying to the best of your knowledge.

  • PCARMARKET_MODERATOR 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Altongray Yes, the correction has been made to the listing.

  • DWhelan (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@MurderMammoth the previous and original owner was extremely meticulous, we discussed the sale of this vehicle at length over almost a month of back and forth, he was unaware of any paintwork done to the car, he even insisted he remove the license plate from the vehicle himself the day we purchased it as he was afraid I would scratch it. My personal theory is the vehicle was scratched in transport which was possibly why the alleged individual who ordered the vehicle did not take delivery. The paint work is solid, color matched exactly, no sign of any actual body work, all vin tags in place, no paint lines, zebra stripes, fisheyes or or seams.

  • MurderMammoth (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@DWhelan holy schnickeys as to the paint meter readings. Can you provide any insight as to what happened as to why those panels needed to be repainted? Thank you.

  • DWhelan (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Just under 2 days left until your chance to own this truly unique example of one of the best cars ever produced slips through the cracks. Who is going to step up??

  • Altongray 2 years, 8 monthsago

I think the listing should be corrected to say 315 (or 320?) hp and 273 lb. ft. torque for the 3.6L in this 996.2 (not 296 and 258, which is the 996.1’s 3.4L). Can you verify this @pcarmarket
