Next up at auction is this 2002 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet which sports a Satin Black vinyl wrap over the original Black finish with a custom Black leather/Alcantara interior. This 2002 996 has been extensively modified, featuring a TPC Racing turbo kit said to produce over 500 HP, GT2-style bumpers, Bilstein coilovers, a Road Sport Supply Tarmac Series Stage 2 suspension package, an upgraded clutch, front and rear Brembo GT big brakes, 991-style headlights, and more. Now showing 86,640 miles on the odometer, this 996 is being offered at auction by the seller based in California.

This Carrera was originally finished in Black (741) but has been professionally vinyl wrapped in Satin Black, as well as the included hardtop. The CARFAX report shows 2 instances of damage, one rear-end collision in 2006 and another in 2021 that was reported as minor. The seller reports a small dent to the front hood, some wear to the wheels, and some scratching on the front lip. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with the CARFAX report. Exterior equipment includes aftermarket GT2-style front and rear bumpers, 991-style LED headlights, LED tailights, yellow Brembo brake calipers, yellow accents on the front bumper, rear bumper, and mirror caps, removable “13” numbers on the doors in yellow, and 19” black-finished OEM 997 wheels, which are mounted with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

The interior has been completely reupholstered, with black leather and Alcantara accented with yellow stitching. The factory-original heated seats wear diamond-stitched inserts and “GTS” embroidery in the headrests, while the center console and door panels are covered in Alcantara, also with yellow contrast stitching. The factory steering wheel has been replaced with a flat-bottomed OMP suede-wrapped steering wheel, and amenities include a Bose stereo system, carbon fiber illuminated Carrera door sills, automatic climate control, and Parking Assist sensors.

At 78k miles, a TPC turbo kit was installed, which is said to produce up to 520 HP and 450 lb.-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission with an upgraded clutch. Other performance modifications include Bilstein coilovers, a Road Sport Supply Stage 2 suspension package which includes a front toe/bump steer kit, front lower control arms, adjustable rear sway bar links, a rear bump steer kit, and rear lower control arms, and stopping power is derived from front and rear Brembo GT braking systems. The seller reports the vehicle has seen two track events at Willow Springs, and reports the IMS bearing has been replaced and maintenance is up to date.

This sale will include 2 sets of keys and owner’s manuals.

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@JPD What are you asking? Maybe I missed your question. And the car is worth allot more than 40k fyi, we put that in parts alone in this car :) , but thanks

  • JPD (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

$40k+ car if seller had have been forthcoming with info bidders had requested..that's what i would have paid for it. Too many holes...

@Blubusdrvr Previous Because of the IMS failure, the previous owner installed had the engine rebuilt. That's the reason we decided to put so much money into the car, because it had a new motor to begin with

  • Blubusdrvr (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Details of the engine replacement and IMS please.

  • Devil_Dog_Ultra (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

@gkcrane as a California wholesale dealer I will have to state almost everything you mentioned is wrong. This is not the forum for me to clarify or correct what you stated but do know that this car can be sold and registered in CA just fine. This looks like an awesome car to own and somebody is about to get one heck of a deal!

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@luis.seneriz Nice., This Porsche has 500 hp to the wheels, drives on regular 91 gas and it's a rocket on rails, it's a blast to drive

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Definitely, I modified all my cars. Not my wife Mb 21 suv, or my F150 still under warranty. I miss my twin turbo 2004 HPA built R32 easily high 600 hp at wheels with the 104 octane tune.

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

Good luck everyone, I am reminding everyone that this car is worth more than twice the current bid, so don't wait until the last minute, place your bids now or you will miss it

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@luis.seneriz no check engine light, no error lights at all. The company that installed the turbo, also programmed the computer. I smogged it twice in California ... I am sure you can do Texas no problem :) . You sound like a guy that would appreciate this car

  • gkcrane (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

@newcarsuperstore Apparently the car is not street legal in California. It would have been appropriate for you to have stated that in your ad. I didn’t read anywhere in your ad that the car is a “race car”. As you know a vehicle seller in California is compelled by law to provide a current emissions certificate to the buyer at the time of sale or the title will not be transferred. The buyer is not to be put in the position of having to find a smog shop that is willing to misrepresent the test results. California smog testing requires the tester to visually inspect for any engine items that are not original factory items and without a legal CARB tag affixed. I’m guessing the new turbo does not have CARB approval. Some other states have recently adopted California’s regulations as their own as well. I happen to have residences in two states that won’t license your car, California and Idaho, so you’re correct that this isn’t the car for me, or anyone else expecting to license the car in such states.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

No check engine lights at all? Here in Texas all they are going to do is plug it in the obd2 port. Visual is only for tires wiper blades. They will test your gas cap. 2 weeks ago I got mine to pass with flying colors, soul headers, fabspeed catless x pipes with the extension cheaters and a fabspeed exhaust. All lights need to work.

  • Blubusdrvr (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Thanks for the response. Please address the IMS question. Do you have paperwork for it? Why was the engine replaced? Replaced with what? Another M96? Serial # of engine? Also, are the alacantra dash portions simply covering the original dash or replacing it?

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@gkcrane It sounds like it's not for you sir, yes, this is a race car and probably should not bee driven on the streets :) , just like every other modified car, not for everyone for sure

  • Breakthru 2 yearsago

California smog rules are strict and they suck. Even if your car passes smog, they take the visual test seriously. I had headers on my 996 and even though it passed, i got flagged for not having a CARB number on there. I can't imagine having a turbo sitting there. That being said, this looks like a fun car, sounds great from the videos.

  • gkcrane (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Are you saying the car won’t pass California smog testing unless I get a “ friendly” smog shop? If so, it sounds suspiciously like fraud.

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@Blubusdrvr everything is new brother, new tires, new upgraded clutch, engine was replaced at 77k miles wih a new motor by previous owner, thats why we decided to change everything else and build the car up as a show car for me. This car was stripped down at 79k mikes and we literally upgraded everything, its a' mostly new' 20y old car, new suspenssion, complete brake system, transmission, interiour and exteriour

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@Clubracer6 its hard not to fall in love with this car after driving it for a day, the brand new suspenssion makes you feel invincible in the canyons, it's hard to describe it, feels on rails

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@gkcrane the car is programmed to pass smog, you just need to find a friendly smog shop ... I may be able to help with that if you buy the car

  • gkcrane (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

I see the California license plate expired in January. Considering the turbo installation is a deviation from factory specs I’m guessing this car will no longer pass California’s stringent emissions testing. Am I wrong?

  • dhuckabay 2 yearsago

Bid in the amount of $25,000

  • Clubracer6 (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Kudos to you for rolling the dice on going no reserve on this car. Each modification narrows the market for the car incrementally. Who ever built is certainly loved it, was passionate about and spent a ton on it. The original owner must have too given the $108k MSRP, that has to be easily $35k in options! Does it have a limited slip?

  • luis.seneriz 2 yearsago

Bid in the amount of $20,313

  • Blubusdrvr (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

In all seriousness, what IMS was installed and date? Any paperwork/sticker/rumors? I understand the numbers are vinyl stickers, are the yellow “accents” stickers over the wrap as well or they part of the wrap? Any other service information? Clutch? Brakes? Tires?

  • Blubusdrvr (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Do yellow fuzzy dice also come with the car? How many clowns do you think I can I fit in this car?

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

I feel that selling this car this cheap may be an insult to the hard working people who took 3 months to build it. I need to see some real bids guys. This is not a miata, it's a 6 speed 500hp Porsche Turbo beast

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@JPD Well that's not going to happen today, I don't have time to take the car to the shop to run reports for you, the auction ends tonight. The video I posted was done on Saturday, so you know the car runs great. Just use the general specs from TCP , they are the ones that built the engine and programmed the computer to match the engine, we did not mess with any of that

  • JPD (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

@newcarsuperstore the dme report is pulled from the ecu and is a unique record of the historical event of the engine.

Again, any serious bidder would want this info, especially since the car has been tracked.
Missed shift, overrev under power or overrev downshifting can all lead to premature failure
The due report will simply confirm that the engine has or has not been overreved, to what level, and how often.

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@JPD Here is the Turbo kit that the car has, they have all those reports on their site, if you care about the specs : https://www.tpcracing.com/product/porsche-996-997-1-turbo-kit

  • JPD (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

I suggest that you call him and ask. Any serious bidder would want to know this info.

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@JPD I don't know what that is, you can call my service director, the guy that worked on this , he can answer technical questions: It wont let me post his number here but message me and I can get you his number

  • JPD (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

And the dme report? For record of overevs up or downshifting?

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@JPD TRhe car goes to 65mph in 2nd great, that quick lunch I did in the 2nd video is basically red zone. Here , scroll to the min 1:26 and that's a red line in 2nd gear

  • newcarsuperstore (seller) 2 yearsago

@JPD Here is the Turbo kit that the car has : https://www.tpcracing.com/product/porsche-996-997-1-turbo-kit/
We also added a BOV on top and that makes more continuous power and aounds better.

Car still gets 18mpg, the turbo operates at low PSI, I think 4.5 , and the car is stable, no leaks and no problems

  • dhuckabay 2 yearsago

Bid in the amount of $20,000

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Someone is probably going to go cheap on the car. I read what the owner said about pricing but for that you can get a coupe metzger turbo. I’ll be looking at a 03 with 60k miles, everything up to today in a few days in San Antonio, a PCA member sent me to the owner, so not buying blind. Price around $60, yes a three pedal car.

  • JPD (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

    DME report?
Were any engine internals beefed up?
What is the max boost pressure?
Driving videos are lame. How about some video through the full rpm range shifting close to red line,
Oil leaks or other issues due to high case pressures from supercharger?
Any idea as to oil consumption?

@Hoomski yes of course, I can take them off. It' s just vinyl, comes right off

  • Hoomski (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Could we remove the yellow stickers all over this car?
Are those vinyl wraps too? Or painted.
Just a small yellow strip on the chin spoiler would look very classy. But you have way too much in my opinion and it make this beautiful Porsche look a bit comical. Anyway I hope the yellow is vinyl and can be removed?

Someone just asked me to make a better turbo video, so I just took the car around the block with my other camera, the microphone is not good but you can hear what's going on. It sounds insane when you open it up , sounds better than my mclaren and almost as loud as the huracan ...almost : https://youtu.be/k4uLZJNaJR0

@GTBman the guys from PCar said they would feature the car if I do no.l reserve. We will see if they were correct :), this car should sell for over 70k. You cannot build this under 70k. This car is awesome. It better bring the bids ;)

  • GTBman (registered bidder) 2 yearsago

Just curious why you are selling it especially with no reserve? Looks like an amazing Porsche. Thanks

Good luck everyone, someone will getting an awesome car, feel free to ask questions but read the description first for basic answers. Not a dollar spared on this custom build, very comfortable ride and very fast, one of the kind custom Porsche 911 with less than 8k miles on current engine.
This is basically a new car, most components have been replaced with brand new upgraded ones. Faster than a 911 turbo, rear wheel drive GT2 experience and upgraded suspension for the best canyon drive experience. Good luck
**It's not in the photos, but the car comes with a matching hard top, wrapped in satin black to match the car
