The 996 Turbo remains one of the most desirable water-cooled 911’s on the market due to its 400+ horsepower Mezger engine, refined all-wheel drive handling, and incredible value.  This 2002 example features a 6-speed manual transmission and is said to be up-to-date on all service.  It is now being offered for auction out of Los Angeles, CA with 56k miles showing on the odometer.

This Turbo’s black finish is said to be in very nice condition with a full paint correction and detail performed at the time of the owner’s purchase.  Only minor rock chips can be seen which are noted in the gallery photos.  The seller notes that a reversible rear window wiper delete plug has been professionally installed retaining all factory wiring.  The car rides on a set of factory Turbo Twist wheels that wear 2016/17 dated Pirelli P Zero tires.

Inside, you will find a black full leather interior that features a rich supple leather seating.  This example has been configured with the desirable P71 Design package along with deviated stitching and a Becker CDR-220 head unit.  All electronics are stated to be in working order.

The 3.6 L Mezger engine has become known to many enthusiasts as the greatest water-cooled engine ever created by Porsche.  Additionally, the Mezger engine doesn’t suffer from IMS bearing related issues as its oil system ensures constant lubrication.  This 996 Turbo’s engine sends 415 HP to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission, allowing for a 0-60 time of approximately 4.2 seconds.  This example has been upgraded with a TechArt carbon fiber air intake and exhaust system allowing for increased performance and a more aggressive engine note.  It is said to have had a fluid and filter change just three months ago and remains in excellent driving condition.  A binder full of service records since new will be included with the sale.

The sale will also include an original window sticker, two keys, books, and a clean Carfax report.

@peterv If you zoom in on pic 16 with the spoiler up you’ll see it’s the diamond cut pattern mixing with the red wall and the warm adjustments they added to the pics. The 2nd photo they used in the description shows off the clarity and true color of the tail lights.

Is it just the photo? Or are the rear lights looking a little foggy in the white portion.

@gelande63 , thanks for the additional information, if you can record cold start, engine noise, and engine noise warmed up, that would be great.

  • gelande63 (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

@Papolosa Here is a link to an image of the first record indicating the noise https://share.icloud.com/photos/0gmUmfGM7efsWDnrCAORPkSIA

@Papolosa i don't have a report on the over revs, on another comment I talk about being there to see the ppi so didn't print anything out.

The ticking noise you are hearing is a common noise with 996 turbos. The noise was indicated on the its first service record back in 2002 at around 400 miles. So it was nice to know that it didn't start later on.

I can film another video of just the noise I guess, but
I'm sort of reluctant on doing so because I don't want cold start the car, let it warm up and then have to go drive around and clean it again. So if there's other things you want to see in the video that might be beneficial other than just idle noise let me know.

@gelande63, can you post a recording of the engine noise? On your walkaround recording I hear a fairly loud ticking sound. Also, is there over rev report? Thanks!

@Jupiter27 Hey: I had the owner of a shop help looking for the car; so he had the car brought to his shop and checked it out with me. We bought the car the same day. There wasn't a need to have a full report written and printed. Obviously now would be useful. The shop is Pro Motorsports they are involved in POC racing and I've used them for a few years now.

Since there are so many documents for the car, everything checked out with ppi, and the maintenance I had done told us enough info about the car. Excluding me Because I've only had it so long I feel like 5 owners is not that many on a car from 2002.

@gelande63 hi. Can you provide the PPI You had done? I would be interested in your car but am wondering why so many owners and the lady 3 including you for short periods. If the PPI you had done was comprehensive, it at least provides a recent snapshot of the car.

  • gelande63 (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

@9teen71 no just mostly just dirt, bugs and debris

  • gelande63 (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

@gelande63 was there a significant amount of oil in the intercoolers?

  • 9teen71 (registered bidder) 3 years, 11 monthsago

@gelande63 Thanks, had to ask just because the Carfax showed 6 owners with the most recent change of ownership 2 months ago. Perhaps the report is off.

  • Lufti (registered bidder) 3 years, 11 monthsago

    Hi,
Are the water pipes pinned or welded?

@9teen71 some things to note. When I got the car I had all the fluids changed, and had the oil coolers and intercoolers cleaned out. I think I’ve spent like 2k in Maintenance work making sure if would stay healthy because I planed on keeping for longer

  • gelande63 (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

@9teen71 Owner 4 I’m not quite sure at around 7 months. The guy I bought it from got it after college and had it for nearly 2 years and was looking for a new car something he can work on. I personally want to put the money back in my business with everything going on so it’s more of bad timing for me. Shop that helped me find we spent about 6 months trying to find a clean car and this is best one I could get for the money. Had a ppi of course with them as well. This is the most documented car I’ve ever had with over 25 records starting in feb of 2002 til present.

Hello, good looking 996. Why sell so quickly? Also, why do you suppose the last two owners had this car for relatively short periods? Any unresolved issues with the car? Thanks, just trying to get a feel for this one.
