Pairing a 6-speed manual transmission with its Mezger flat-six engine, this 2002 Porsche 996 Turbo Coupe comes finished in Seal Grey Metallic over a Black full leather interior. In 2006 at 17,872 miles, it was brought to the official RUF Auto Centre in Texas to undergo a RUF RTurbo conversion resulting in a claimed output of 550 HP. In addition to the upgraded engine software and twin turbochargers, this 996 also received genuine 19” RUF wheels, a RUF steering wheel, RUF pedal covers, and a Bilstein PSS9 coilover suspension. Acquired by the current owner in 2013, this RTurbo is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas with 39,950 miles showing on the odometer.

This RTurbo is finished in Seal Grey Metallic and features RUF RTurbo badging on the rear, a RUF front emblem, black stone guards, and an automatic rear spoiler which was upgraded with a Rennkit eRam electric conversion kit in 2021. It rides on distinctive 19” RUF 5-spoke wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport tires from 2018 at the front and 2020 at the rear, with 2-3k miles driven. Window tint has been applied, the lights have been smoked, and removable Porsche logos have been added to the lower rocker panels. Additionally, the brake calipers have recently been re-powder coated in red due to fading, and a recent paint correction and ceramic coating were performed. The seller notes a paint chip on the driver’s door which occurred under prior ownership, along with a few minor paint imperfections. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report and paint meter readings.

Inside, the black full leather interior is factory-equipped with climate control, a Bose sound system, and a Porsche CDR-220 radio. Aluminum-look instrument dials have also been appointed. During its conversion at the RUF Auto Centre, a black leather and Alcantara trimmed RUF steering wheel was installed along with a RUF shift knob, floor mats, and aluminum pedal covers.  Upgraded leather Porsche Sport Seats with crested headrests were equipped by a previous owner and a Numeric short-shift kit was installed in 2018. The car has also been hardwired for a Valentine One radar detector. Some wear is noted on the driver seat bolster, and the seller reports the leather has been conditioned regularly. All gauges and accessories are confirmed to be fully functional. Additionally, a RUF short-shift kit is included in the sale.

The 3.6L twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six engine was converted with a RUF RTurbo kit in 2006 along with other accessories at a cost of nearly $40k. The RTurbo kit includes upgraded twin-turbochargers, remapped engine software, and a sport exhaust system. The 6-speed manual transmission was also fitted with a new Sachs clutch at the time of the RUF conversion. Upgraded Bilstein PSS9 coilovers were installed along with an Undercover Performance exhaust system to replace the RUF sport exhaust. Some noteworthy recent items include the replacement of the idler puller, rubber sleeves, and intake plenum in October 2020 as well as new front axle boots, brake pads, and rotors in May of 2021 along with a Texas safety and emissions test. Corresponding RUF documentation is provided for reference in the photo gallery along with the seller's maintenance log.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, sales literature, a RUF short-shift kit, and an uninstalled RUF exhaust.

The seller would like you to know: “I am the 4th owner and the car was sold new in Sunnyvale, CA. I have been the owner since 2013 and have put 9k miles on this car; 30,400 and now 39,950. This car was never tracked by me or the 3rd owner who briefly held the car for one year. It has been garage kept, all service at RUF Auto Centre of Carrollton, TX. The same tech that did the RUF R Turbo conversion still works there and on this car. If this has needed something I did it, happy to share a summary page of maintenance, all service receipts, and the RUF certification. This car can go anywhere with a fly-in and drive home or it can be placed on a carrier. I believe the 550 HP and 575 torque numbers to be conservative, but I have never performed a dyno. I have the RUF exhaust which is in the pictures plus it comes with the exhaust on the car which is 200 cell count from Ultimate Performance. The RUF exhaust is smaller, matte black, and more quiet. I wanted something that had bigger tips and that sounded different, new buyer will have the choice of both! In the last 6 years, the car has had 3k miles and if it has ever needed anything I did it as the $31,500 in receipts reflects. Recent paint correction and ceramic coating was done out of an abundance of caution to preserve the car. All of the brake calipers were recently re-powder coated back to red as they had faded to pink. I love this car and for someone, this is going to make a great addition to their collection or perhaps to someone that wants something that nobody else is going to have at your local Porsche cars and coffee.”

Good morning bidders! I added 2 videos detailing the rear spoiler electric operation from multiple angles.

The auction will conclude at 1:49 PM CST today. I will stay close and please connect with the Seller option for anything that you would like to know. This car is loved and has been meticulously maintained, it has never had anything deferred. I hope the owner will allow me to be a part of the roads and community that it becomes a part of. It will be bittersweet as that is how it feels every time for me. The R Turbo is a true time capsule, but with performance that is not dated.

Great looking car and great history. Definately intetested in this one and have a rare carbon fiber RUF front lip and a set of GT3 seats that would help round out this car nicely!!

  • Patrick3000 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

    @tvanbem thank you

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

    @Patrick3000 Hi Patrick!

The curb weight is 3395 pounds, pretty light considering the AWD and what cars weigh today.

At the bottom of the pictures there is one of the front and back of the Texas Title. I have been the owner of this car since 2013, there is no lien and the title is free and clear.

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Protour2003 I have not forgotten about your request. PCar does not have the ability for sellers to post videos, only pictures. I submitted two videos yesterday of the operation of up and down from various angles. I suspect they will update the listing tomorrow morning. If you would like to see pictures ahead of that please let me know.

  • Patrick3000 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

    @tvanbem

    1) What is the actual weight of this car?

    2) Do you hold a clear title or is there a lien recorded?

    Thank you

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Milemarker you can certainly have someone sit back there as a hostage or a small child. There is a comment that explains the sticker which is correct. The back seat is nothing that any adult would ever choose in my opinion.

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@dotr i mentioned this earlier. Tje factory spec were the supple leather seats. The 3rd owner who had this car for a year thought the personality and set up was better suited for the sportbacks did a swap. In my opinion he was correct, these are better seats and they look awesome!

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@dotr that will stay with the car, I won’t part that out.

  • dotr (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Milemarker this car was never specs with sport seats from the factory. Likely these seats came out of a GT3 996 which is why the sticker is there since there are no rear seats in a GT3.

  • dotr (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

I am interested in the RUF exhaust from new or old owner.

  • Protour2003 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Can you please post pictures with the wing in the down position?

  • Milemarker 1 month, 2 weeksago

The seat backs say no one can sit in the back seats? Is that correct? Why?

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Good Friday morning! I added a photo of what the rear of the car looks like with the bumper removed. It's a really cool shot of what is happening back there. The bumper was removed on 10/6/2020 to replace the idler pulley, rubber sleeves, intake plenum & gaskets.

I think a few of you have probably been heads down this week with digging out after the short week last week and you may be using the weekend to dig into all the specifics on this car. I will stay close and keep an eye on comments and questions as well as direct bidder to seller outreach.

@Bay22 Great question! It functions electrically instead of hydraulically. That design is what fails in the rams that raise and lower the wing, they eventually fail and leak. At 75 mph the wing auto raises and then comes back down once the car is longer maintaining that speed just as it did with the factory design. You can also manually raise and lower the wing by pressing the button once to raise and again once to lower. I tend to raise it on start up as I like how it looks up. They make 3 versions of this kit with factory height, then an additional inch, and GT3 height. For me I thought GT3 height might have been too aggressive and as this is an expensive fix I also wanted to get something new out of it so I went in the middle with the height that is more than factory. It works flawlessly and this design also materially removed weight as well.

It is raining here today, I will post a video of the operation tomorrow for you!

  • Bay22 (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Does the wing still go up and down like normal with the new e-ram setup?

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

    @yellowcalliper None taken, all smiles!

  • yellowcalliper (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@tvanbem My apologies, I meant no disrespect to your listing.

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@yellowcalliper Thank you! I would like to clarify this is not a modified 996 in the traditional sense. This is a fully documented RUF conversion built to the R Turbo 550 spec and completed by the only authorized shop in NA that was licensed by RUF Germany to do so.

Ok, I was not yelling, typing with smiles as this is what this car brings, just a little education about the difference compared to something that has been modded. Cheers!

@tag4747 Good question on the additional paint meter area. I had Park Place Porsche in Dallas do that for me when I brought it in for the annual Texas Safety Inspection. We need that for emissions and other things before we can get a current registration sticker.

The car has 39,938 miles and I have been trying to let the new owner take into the next chapter, I wanted to leave a little meat on the bone. If this becomes something that drives feedback and is warranted I will get this done for everyone to see.

  • tag4747 (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

thank you @tvanbem - If we could just get the rest of the panel meter readings posted that should take care of that. I see the hood and front quarters and rear passenger quarter in the gallery but is it possible to add the doors and rear quarter, roof etc.? I agree on the bumpers - and appreciate your quick response and full transparency.

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@tag4747 Hi. I have pictures of paint meter readings from various areas of the car, but specifically where that chip is at the bottom of the driver's door. It was one of those things that I always wanted to address, but I chose maintenance a bigger cosmetic items like the calipers and paint correction with ceramic coating. If it was more visible and not so low to the ground where my eye is not drawn to it I probably would have. However, then you have to start explaining paint work. In my opinion plastic bumper covers should not really count as paint work either, but that is my perspective (the covers have not been painted). I can say that I have not done any paint work and this car has lived it's life in Dallas since 2005 and serviced by the RUF Auto Centre which is now called RAC. I also wanted to know last Fall when the paint correction was done if the company that did that could see anything under all of their lights and they said that the car was clean. I can't speak to anything that happened in CA for the first 17k miles of this car's life. Let me know if there is a different angle that you would like to see or if there is something else that I can answer.

  • tag4747 (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

hello seller - @tvanbem - has the car undergone any paintwork? In the image in the gallery showing the noted paint chip damage to the driver door there appears to be some residual masking markings? Do you have paint meter readings or can you advise accordingly? Thank you

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Good afternoon! I uploaded two new videos. The first one is a cold start from inside the cabin in the garage. I started with the windows closed, then dropped the windows and opened the sunroof. At the end I buttoned the cabin back up and there is a sample of the Bose system.

The second video is a post script. I turned the interior lights on, I should have done that initially!

Please let me know if there are any questions or feedback. Cheers!

@tvanbem If you scroll past the paperwork which are the last pictures, there is a new photo of what the front end looks like with the front clip off. On 9/9/22 I brought it in for an oil service (was never about mileage for me, but more about having it up on the lift and doing an inspection for peace of mind) and they noticed something that I could not see on my floor as the coolant was evaporating before it could leave a puddle and drip on my garage floor. The passenger radiator had a pin sized puncture probably from a small pebble that came up on the highway. RAC reviewed all three of them, yes these cars are wrapped in them and they recommended to replace the one and that the other two were fine. If you have never seen the cooling power it's quite impressive, especially when you consider that the three radiators are no where near the engine!

@sportscarguy3 Thanks so much! The RUF wheels and stance are what most people first notice that sets this car apart from the other 996 Turbos. There is something that is quite simple about the wheels, yet aggressive but clean at the same time. There is one other classic wheel that gives off that emotion to me and those are the classic monoblock wheels on a MB W210 E55 AMG (I previously owned the final year of that run with a silver '02).

Also, with the RUF conversion/upgrade, outstanding, and those wheels
Hard to imagine a better looking or more enjoyable Porsche. to drive
This beauty should bring a handsome price and be enjoyable to watch the end of this auction
    Good luck all

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@Hnguyen7986 IMO there are plenty of X50 cars out there, it just depends if someone wants something that is rare, better performance, and has the RUF cache. It's all subjective, I have really enjoyed having it. The X50's are great, but there is not anything that makes them stand out from the standard turbo which I think for the money Porsche could have at least changed the badging and the dials. I suppose that is where we find GTS spec cars today, sort of a sweet spot in the middle. The '05 Turbo S in a manual is another one to compare it to and perhaps closer as those are quite rare.

  • Hnguyen7986 (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Such a beautiful car! Curious what this will bring over an X50 optioned car.

@seller Thank you. I know these seats well, a must have in a 996 in my opinion, I was just confused by the wording and the timing, clear now.

  • tvanbem (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@MC-Leather Good morning. The car came spec'd with "supple leather seats". These are probably more of a GT style seat and with less bolstering. The sport seats with the Porsche Crest in the headrest, and the color matched hardback covers (seal grey) would have been a factory option to pick like heated seats for example (this does not have heated seats). The 3rd owner thought the spirit of the car would pair better with the sport seats and I believe that he was right. I am 6'1 and 225 and these are comfortable to me. If you are familiar with the bucket seats from something like a Cayman GT4 they are nothing like those, I can't fit in those unless it was going to be a track car, those are pretty snug for me. As you are probably aware one can quickly go nuts on a Porsche option list very quickly.

Let me know if I did not answer your question or if I can provide any more clarity.

  • MC-Leather (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@GBX good morning and thanks for the questions. The RUF steering wheel was added when the conversion was done. You are correct that there is not an individual line item for it. It’s possible that it was part of one of the larger line items and not specifically its own item. It was one of the first things I noticed when I looked at the car as the factory steering wheels are not a good looking design in my opinion.

There is a DME report from June 3, 2021 that is on page 27 of the complete service history. The mileage in between is roughly 1300 miles.

  • GBX (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Very nice example! Who was the Ruf steering wheel purchased from? Don't see it on any of the invoices. Had it been recovered? Do you have a current DME report you can share?

Good Monday evening, I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Perhaps this is the year where you treat yourself for a little something under the tree with a new set of keys! I am here to answer all questions, this is a very special car that I have had the pleasure of taking care of the for nearly 12 years.
