Finished in Guards Red over a premium Savannah Beige full leather interior, this 2002 Porsche 986 Boxster S is powered by a 3.2-liter flat-six engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. It has been under the owner’s care since 2017 and benefits from an upgraded LN Engineering IMS bearing as well as a host of recent service items including a new water pump, spark plug, and ignition coils. Showing approximately 39k miles on the odometer, this 986 is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

This Boxster S is finished in Guards Red and is distinguishable from a standard Boxster by its red-painted brake calipers, grey front air intakes, silver rear lettering, and dual exhaust tips. Equipment includes a retractable black soft top, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and 17” Boxster S wheels with colored center crests and Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The Savannah Beige full leather interior includes optional Porsche-crested headrests for the power-adjustable seats as well as a premium Bose sound system. Other accessories include cruise control automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, and an original Porsche CR-220 radio.

A mid-mounted 3.2-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 250 Hp and 225 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. An LN Engineering single-row IMS bearing is said to have been installed and service completed in January 2022 reportedly included an oil and filter change, new serpentine belt, water pump, spark plugs, ignition coils, and radiator cleaning.

This sale will include a clean title.

@Mcap15 can confirm this, I'm 6'1 and had a 2001 Boxster S. Currently have a 2002 996. I fit comfortably in both. Best of luck with the sale, this looks like a great example!

  • Mcap15 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@CP_VT Less room but not by much. The 986 is wide so you have arm room and you can position the lower seat back for comfort to the max of the rear

  • CP_VT (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Can anyone comment as to how much room there is in the cockpit, compared to a 996. I’m 6’3”, I have a 996, so I’m familiar with that. I’m just trying to figure out if there is less room here, or the same.

@Richard356 Good morning. I posted the service invoices yesterday, which includes the water pump and more preventative maintenance. For added assurance you can call Danny Stahl at Stahl Motorsports in West Palm Beach and ask about this car. This is a Porsche only shop and he feels this car is one of the best he’s seen.
One key, original books, everything works.

  • Richard356 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Thank you for the invoice on the water pump.

  • Richard356 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

If possible, can you produce the invoice for the Water Pump replacement? My concern is the lack of maintenance records for the past 5 years, (normal maintenance, Brakes ETC, date on tires) I am specially interested in what was done at that time that the Water Pump was replaced after 20 years of service, such as the expansion tank, hoses, belts, thermostat. Also, how many keys? Do you have all of the factory manuals/books. Is everything is functioning correctly? (A/C, Heat, Dash, Radio/speakers, Top, locks and latches, electrical) Thank you for your time

  • Mcap15 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Artdeckco Pictures of the undercarriage and service invoices are now posted. I gave them to PCAR but they were not up for some reason.

@leigh on with your 993- you might try adding a Bilstein PSS 9 or 10 with some H&R springs to help the handle and don't overlook a Fabspeed by-pass exhaust system one more thing is Michelin pilot sport 4s tires- there is no way that the Boxster S can keep up with that set-up, I had this on my 993 TT for years - I have turned down a 275 K offer and felt good about it- But if you would prefer to have a Boxster S over a 993- you just might need some driving time with a driving instructor ... have a good one, Rob

  • leigh (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@robmsales actually I have a lovely 993 sitting in my garage, my second. It looks great, sounds better than a Boxster, but I don’t slide it around a corner with the confidence I feel in the Boxster S. Both destined to be classics, the Boxster is the deal to buy now.

  • Artdeckco (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

I am surprised with your cavalier response concerning the car's options: "I’m almost sure this S version has a sport tuned suspension because you can feel it". You also said "It appears fully loaded and sport tuned". You were dead wrong on this, nor does the car have PSM which became standard equipment in 2003. On a 20-year-old Porsche, these options would have been great to have!

I noticed that you have not posted any service records for the past five years (tires, brakes, rotors, clutch, exhaust, and whether you have been following the maintenance schedule at a Porsche dealership). Nor have you posted any pictures of the undercarriage. The car has spent the last five years in one of the highest air salinity areas in the country. Are you willing to request and post available documentation at your local Porsche dealership, and have the car racked so you can take some pictures?

@Leigh- I could not disagree with your statement on a Boxster S and a 993- I have had six Boxster S since they came out in 2000- and had two 993- there is no comparison one is a 911 and the best one ever built period and the Boxster S is a great car- and so is in Cayman S
They are way different and just look at what the 993 are selling for when they're 25 years old
Sorry my friend- your way out of line- go buy a 993 and you'll understand-Rob

I have a very similar car I bought new. I owned a lot of different sports cars over the years and this is my favorite. It is so easy to drive fast, very comfortable to cruise in, and has been reliable. I think it is a better car than the 993! GLWTA

  • Mcap15 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@sjburns123 Also has the Bose subwoofer behind the headrests

  • sjburns123 1 year, 5 monthsago

From VINanaylitics, this car has :
982 Supple Leather Front and Rear
    G1 Guards Red
    M6S Savanna Beige Floor Mats

    P64 Sport Touring Package
    P74 Xenon Headlamp Package
    SD Savanna Beige Full Leather
    V9 Black Top
    XSC Porsche Crest in Headrest

Change the color to SY and this is my car right down to the mileage. I've had mine for 4 years and these are easily the best Porsche or any other true sports car deal out there (look at what Integra Rs sel lfor, yeesh). Very, very fun to drive. No electronic nannies.

  • Mcap15 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Artdeckco Yes you can call your dealer parts dept. and provide them the VIN in this listing. They tell you the original package of options per code. It appears fully loaded and sport tuned.

  • Artdeckco (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Hello again, I just want to clarify for myself your prior response. When you say "You can check the options by the VIN at any dealer parts dept", are you saying that I should go to my Porsche dealership parts department, with your VIN, to determine the original options on the vehicle you are selling? If so, maybe I'm asking the wrong questions.

    Does the car have:

    Heated Front Seats Package;
    Sport Package;
    Special Chassis Rigidly Tuned;
    Porsche Stability Management?

  • Mcap15 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@ejoseph I will take one tomorrow and post some additional shots. Stay tuned

  • Mcap15 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@WRENCH.56 I am unsure about the expansion tank. I don’t remember that. I will have to ask mechanic but consider it original.
The car has always been garaged.

  • WRENCH.56 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

    Nice example!
    Two questions :
    1. Was the plastic expansion tank replaced when the water pump was?
    2. Being as it’s a Florida car, I have to ask about any exposer to hurricane damage or flooding. Is the car thoroughly dry and has that always been the case?

  • ejoseph 1 year, 5 monthsago

Do you have any videos to share?

  • Mcap15 (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Artdeckco Yes I will post the invoice on the IMS. I will also take a picture under the front. You can check the options by the VIN at any dealer parts dept.

  • Artdeckco (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Hello again, I should have mentioned that I had a 2001 Boxster S built in 2000, sold with 18K miles in 2011, and my window sticker included: Full Leather Interior ($1,990); Heated Front Seats Package ($400); Sport Package ($1,560); Special Chassis Rigidly ($690); CD Shelf Center Console ($40); Wheel Caps with Colored Crest ($170); Porsche Stability Management ($1,215).

Aftermarket, I installed a short shifter, a conical air filter, a stainless steels skid plate under the front valence panel, and a Brey Krause roll bar extension. I tracked the car Watkins Glen about 7 times and it held up the magnificently. In the first 10 years of ownership, my only significant repair was the intermediate shaft bearing after about 5 years of driving.

Now, after a 2004 GT3 and a 2018 Macan GTS, with some “seller’s” regret, I’m looking to replace what was my most fun Porsche to drive, the Boxster S.

I have just a few follow-up questions. C him an you add a picture of the underneath of the front valence? Also, can you and the shop report related to your IMS repair? The reason I ask is that this was done very late in the engine’s life and I want to make sure no filings were left behind. Finally, would you be willing to go to your local Porsche dealership and confirm the car’s options? Or, maybe it is as simple as using the VIN and going online to get the window sticker. I do not know.

    Paul

    @Mcap15 *Hello, I am not*

  • Mcap15 (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@NHPorscheguy Consider it done on Monday. My Porsche mechanic installed it, Foreign Auto Specialists- Brian B.
See my reply above to artdecko, I explain the history.

  • Mcap15 (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@Artdeckco Hello! I am. It the original owner. I purchased it a few years ago from a Porsche collector who had it garaged in Arizona with 17k miles. I do not know why the Carfax says 5 owners, unless the original owner before me transferred it within his family. But it had 17k miles and was Mint in and out and drove like a new car. I keep this car even better.
I changed the IMS right when I bought it with LN bearing. No window sticker unfortunately. As to suspension, I’m almost sure this S version has a sport tuned suspension because you can feel it.

  • audios22 (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Clean example. I truly love my '04 986. These ar the best valued P-Cars on the market. This one would be a great way to break into the P-Car world GLTWB

  • NHPorscheguy (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@artdeckco Carfax lists 5 owners. No mention of the IMS bearing on that. If the owner has any documentation of the IMS repair it would be great to have it posted

  • Artdeckco (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Hi there. Are you the original owner? Wil you will be able to post the window sticker? I'm most interested in whether you purchased the $690 option for a ... Sport Chassis with more rigidly tuned springs & shocks, spring plates (front & rear).

Also, when did you replace the intermediate shaft bearing?
