We are pleased to offer this 2002 Porsche 986 Boxster S finished in Black over a Savanna Beige interior.  This 6-speed 2002 example remains under the care of its original owner and has been upgraded with an exterior Aerokit package, Bilstein coilovers, Enkei Raceline wheels, a custom lightweight flywheel, 3.8-spec clutch, and a turbocharger kit for the 3.2L flat-six engine.  Boasting well over $30k worth of upgrades and a considerable amount of service carried out within the last year, this turbocharged Boxster S is now being offered for auction by its original owner out of Maryland with just over 28k miles showing on the odometer.

This Boxster S comes finished in Black with an Aerokit package including a GT3-style front fascia, flared rocker panels, and a fixed rear spoiler. An invoice shows the Aerokit to have been installed at a cost of over $5k. Other additions include a removable Spyder-style rear tonneau cover and a set of 18” Enkei Raceline wheels.  Clear paint protection film was applied over the forward half of the nose and mirror covers in 2003, while some small dents and scratches are depicted throughout the exterior.  The wheels come fitted with spacers and a set of 285/30ZR18 Michelin Pilot Sport RS2 mounted in December of 2020.  Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, the Savanna Beige partial leather interior has been fitted with a set of Sparco racing harnesses, custom floor mats, and a short shifter assembly.  Factory features include the Xenon Headlamp Package, automatic climate control, and the Sport Touring Package which adds a cabin wind deflector, cruise control, Bose Sound System, onboard computer, and 6-disc CD changer.  The cabin exhibits some signs of wear and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional apart from the digital climate control display.

This Boxster S is equipped with a 3.2L flat-six engine which was fitted with a 986 turbo kit by TPC Racing in 2008 along with an upgraded X51 clutch, custom lightweight flywheel, a 997 Carrera S throttle body, and intake plenum. The rear wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission. Other upgrades installed throughout the years include a Bilstein RS coilover suspension, adjustable sway bars, GHL 5" muffler, and high-flow catalytic converters. A new battery was installed in December of 2020 and a major service was carried out in April of 2021 including the installation of a new air/oil separator, oil level sender, fuel injectors, intake manifold gaskets, air filter, and oil filter. Corresponding invoices are provided in the gallery.

This sale will include a vast collection of records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the original floor mats, and a clean title. With no expense spared on high-end performance upgrades, this turbocharged Boxster S presents an opportunity that is not to be missed.

@Spokayman not sure if this was a question for the seller? But as informed already the start up video presented was filmed after the car had been parked in the garage for more than a week. The walk around video you also see was filmed just minutes after that. Hopefully you are able to compare and see the smoke?
TPC who installed the turbo set it at 5 pounds at the time of installation.
Hopefully this answers your questions. Thank you

For what it’s worth @JPD, I’m seeing the same thing in the cold start video.
It certainly looks like there is blue oil smoke, not just condensation, coming out the whole time that the video is taken.
There are a lot of reasons why the engine could be producing oil smoke including rings, bore scoring, overfilling of the crankcase, faulty AOS (although that was supposed to have been changed recently), etc.
with so few miles driven in the last six years there might be some investigation needed to see if all is healthy.
Unless I’ve missed it I don’t see a current DME overrev report on the engine.

    Got it. Thanks

  • Vintage80 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@JPD Thank you. Car has driven less than 1000 miles since 2015. But still it was serviced, oil changed etc. According to latest repair order from the mechanic (4/27/2021 at 27,956 miles) the oil was changed together with a new filter.
As per imvoice oil is “Mobil One 15/50”. During same service car also got new oil separator, oil level sender, fuel injector, intake manifold gasket, air filter. A total of USD 4,274.37 was paid. The Owner has always taken good care of this car.

Understood. Perhaps you could give us a comment on oil consumption rate, brand and grade of oil that is being used. Thanks

  • Vintage80 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@JPD As you know the auction was suppose to end this afternoon, but then just 5 mins before the PCARMARKET page went down. I took the whole day off today in order to assist with all possible requests and questions. Tomorrow I’m back at work and won’t be home until after the auctions ends on the new and revised time. I will of course be happy to assist with any new possible questions, but unfortunately I’m not able to drive the car.

Seller, would you kindly complete another cold start video. In the video presented I get the initial blue smoke burnoff puff however the smoke continued beyond the end of the video. I think it is fair game to ask you to do the cold start video over for us to see how long it actually takes for the blowby to clear up, if it does at all.
Further, a driving video with the camera pointing out back, and some hard driving close to redline up and down through the gears would also be appreciated.
The fact that this is a car modded with an aftermarket turbo, there is risk of high engine
case pressures and is a concern.

Any idea what the oil consumption rate is?

@JPD Thank you for the interest. It seems it’s just the display itself. We understand this is a common issue, where the display most likely need to get replaced. But the heat, AC etc are functional

    does the A/C blow cold?
    does the heat blow hot?
Is the display messed up or is the temp control system not functional?

  • Vintage80 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@bezze41 Thank you for the interest. Yes, that could possibly be considered.
BWI Airport is closest and approximately 30 mins drive from our location

please provide some detail as to what is the malfunction issue with the digital climate control display
"all gauges and accessories to be fully functional apart from the digital climate control display"

@Redwoodcitydoc The IMS was not changed. During the recent service and the process of changing the oil, the mechanic checked the filter and found no fragments. Hope this answers your question, thank you

  • Redwoodcitydoc (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

I may have missed it in the service records, but I don't see where the IMS bearing issue for these cars was addressed
    Thanks

@JPD there is no separate gage for the turbo, but the company, TPC who installed it, set it at 5 pounds at the time of installation.

  • Vintage80 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@JPD Thank you for your interest. Correct, rear tires are recently changed. Front tires are from 2006, but still have good tread. You do however see some cracks at the base of the tread

@Vintage80 in My experience, paint protection film applied in 2003 may not remove easily. I do clear bra my vehicles and love it but when removing it, good luck. I believe it will last for decades on this protected vehicle. I absolutely love this configuration!! Do I really need to add another one to my stable? Hmmm

Is there a gauge for turbo boost?

@PCguy Thank you for your interest. To avoid doubt the car was very well maintained throughout its entire ownership by the original owner. It seems the majority of the maintenance and work was not posted on Cardax. However the binder that will come with the car show original receipt of the maintenance, improvements and repairs. As per receipts car has driven less than 1000 miles since 2015, but was still maintained and serviced accordingly on a routine basis. Hope this answers your questions

  • PCguy (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Hello, could you give some more info on the maintenance/repair work that has been carried out? From the Carfax that is attached, I see that the maintenance was carried out in 2006, but none after that. Thank you.

@Redwoodcitydoc As per Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche the exterior paint color/code says: Black with black top/A1V9.
Also kindly remind the front of the car has a removable paint protection film. Copy of invoice is available. Thank you for your interest

  • Redwoodcitydoc (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

It’s hard to tell in the photos if the vehicle is or Bassalt Black (metallic ) or Jet Black
    Would you please clarify
    Thanks

@jaxt88 Thank you for your comment. Yes, true about the sounds ;-) Will add a driving video asap

  • jaxt88 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Will you be adding any driving videos? I have to imagine this car makes all the right sounds, but it would be nice to have that confirmed before bidding.

    Thank you.
