Between 1999 and 2002, Saab produced a high-performance variant of the 9-3, named the Viggen, after the Saab 37 Viggen aircraft. Developed in collaboration with Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR), the Viggen featured enhanced aerodynamics, sport seats, a stiffer and lowered suspension, upgraded brakes, and a performance-tuned ECU. A total of 4,600 units were manufactured. Finished in Black over Charcoal Grey upholstery, this extensively modified example features a Stage 4 upgrade producing an estimated 300 HP. Additional modifications include a downpipe exhaust, cross-flow intercooler, Koni adjustable shocks, 6-way subframe brace, upgraded sway bar, and more. Acquired by the seller in April 2010, this 9-3 is now being offered for auction out of New York showing approximately 79k miles on the odometer.
This Viggen is finished in Black with a power retractable black convertible soft top and is believed to be one of 106 produced in this configuration for the 2002 model year. Compared to the standard 9-3, the Viggen boasts aerodynamically optimized bumpers, side skirts, and a larger rear wing. It rides on aftermarket wheels with new Toyo tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report noting minor damage in October 2019.
The cabin features deeply bolstered, heated, and power-adjustable front sport seats upholstered in Charcoal leather with Viggen logos debossed on the backrests. The floors are lined with black carpeting, and the dashboard is accented with contrasting printed grey trim. Amenities include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, cruise control, Viggen-branded door sill plates, and Saab's signature center console-mounted ignition switch. The seller adds that a Pioneer head unit with navigation and Apple CarPlay has been added, and the factory radio will accompany the sale.
Power is derived from a Saab B235R 2.3-liter engine equipped with a Mitsubishi TD04-HL15-5 turbocharger. Thanks to its 9.3:1 compression ratio, Nimonic valves, high-capacity intercooler, performance-tuned ECU, and high-flow exhaust system, the Viggen produces as much as 230 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque. The front wheels are driven by way of a reinforced 5-speed manual transaxle with a heavy-duty clutch and pressure plate, and electronic torque-sensing. The seller notes that modifications include a 6-way subframe brace, an upper strut stabilizer, a steering rack race, a 21mm sway bar, polyurethane bushings, and heavy-duty coils. Additionally, the vehicle features a Stage 4 upgrade producing 300 HP, a K&N airbox, a 3" exhaust downpipe, and a cross-flow intercooler. Koni yellow adjustable shocks have also been added, and the brakes and rotors are said to be in good condition. The oil and filter have reportedly been changed every 5k miles under the current ownership with Mobil1 fully synthetic 10-W30 engine oil. The CARFAX report shows a total of 12 service history entries.
This sale will include a clean title.

@vo152 Design details are timeless, indeed. Steering Wheel is after market with yellow stitching. June 16. 2024 I showed Viggen at Caffeine and Carburetors car meet in New Canaan CT to few people and consensus was this design is iconic. Many thanks for your observation.
These are truly fantastic cars. Nothing compares to a Saab and this era of 9-3 and 9-5 models were simply the best (in my opinion of course). Love the steering wheel! All the best with the auction.

Good evening PCM community and welcome to Viggen auction.
She has been a pleasure to live with for 14 years and it is time for her to find a new home. I found her via Saabnet.com listing as she had been taken care of by a drywall contractor in Woodbury CT and tuned by trained staff headed by ASE-Certified Mastertech Mr. Boe Kalinoski with 30 years SQR Engine Management as well as installation of aftermarket performance products at his shop Automotion Located north of Boston, in Billerica Massachusetts.
I was moved when I arrived at the sellers home to see her and him and his family drove Viggen out of her purpose built shed/garage with a low sloped ramp and I realized the sentiment and value she had for this family and I decided to buy at full asking price without questions. My favorite was and still is third gear and the exhaust tune.
I simply love this how this car drives, feels and sounds. I rarely turn on the music while driving just so I can hear the subtle and sophisticated exhaust tune. Good luck bidding I hope she goes to a good home. Griffin Up!
