The Carrera accelerates from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds while braking is handled by fixed 4-piston alloy calipers paired with ventilated and cross-drilled discs at each corner. The seller adds that service items carried out under previous ownership include the installation of an LN Engineering IMS bearing & clutch, a brake fluid flush, and the replacement of the front & rear Bilstein struts, serpentine belt, coil packs, spark plugs, air & cabin filters, and motor mounts. When I began searching for a 996, it took me almost a year to find and buy a vehicle of this quality to purchase. The more I looked, the more discriminating I became. A couple real good ones got away because other purchasers saw the value of those cars and took action. This is one of those good ones. Sport Classic IIs are easily additional $2K vs. turbo twists.
If you dont get your reserve, dont get bullied into making a deal. Lots of clapped out 996s out there; you have clean spec with amazing documentation.
@zacharyshea - Good question, and one I wish I could answer. I would suspect the car was delivered by the dealer in 2003 with the turbo twist wheels and that the first owner changed to the two piece 18” Sport Classic II wheels at some point. It worked fine for me because they’re a premium OEM wheel upgrade (and I also liked this style more that the twists).
Did the 18” sport classic wheels come with the car when you purchased it or did you change out the 18” turbo twists that came with the car originally? Do you know when were the wheels changed ? Thank you.

@Tairean - Thank you for your supportive thoughts. I can honestly say that the person who bids well and wins this car will be getting an extremely good specimen. There’s never been an operating issue, it always starts and runs strong. It has always driven with respect. I’d drive it across country tomorrow with no hesitation. Everyone who see’s the car can’t believe it’s twenty years old. I had a woman and her husband pull up to me in their vehicle about a month ago, roll down the window and compliment me on how great it looked and sounded.

@tstamm There’s some scrape marks where the bumper cover meets the undercarriage covers. Likely from a previous owner not taking a driveway entry incline on an angle. It’s not visible unless you’re on your back beneath the car.
Front bumper damage?
Included within the photo section is the documented PPI performed prior to my purchase of this vehicle. Each of the conditions noted were resolved. New rear matching Michelin Pilot Sport N-rated tires, new air filter, new serpentine belt, oil change with filter, etc. were installed/performed.

@tstamm LN Engineering states the Classic Single Row IMS Retrofit has a recommended service interval of 4 years or 50,000 miles.
This is probably a good time to mention the following:
I perform the prescribed M96 engine start up procedure for this vehicle, which is as follows:
1. Get in the vehicle and do whatever is needed prior to starting the engine.
2. Start the engine and immediately begin driving conservatively (do not sit and idle the engine).
3. Until the vehicle water temperature and oil temperature reach prescribed parameters, do not exceed 2,500 RPM and do not lug the engine (revs too low). Parameters: Water temp should reach or be just slightly over 185 degrees. Motor oil reaches operating temperature when gauge pressure drops to 2.5.
When these parameters are attained, I drive it like a Porsche should be driven. Spirited, but never abused. You can also see within the documentation that I’ve changed the oil every 1k or so, and sent samples out for analysis. I perform the oil changes because I trust no one to do it like I do. Used oil filters have been checked for any form of debris, which I can honestly claim that there never was a spec. Those oil analysis results provide a great look at the overall health of this vehicles’ engine.
From what I read the retrofit bearing has a 4 year shelf life, this bearing would need to be changed, am I right about this?
I am trying to factor this into my budget

I see that the bearing was replaced approximately 10 years ago, do you know what the mileage was when it was done.

Hi Tstamm, The IMS bearing was replaced with a LN Engineering roller bearing. Replacement is routinely accomplished when the clutch is replaced. There are permanent options on the market that can be installed that replace the roller bearing with a plain bearing that’s fed a constant oil source. The front tires were replaced in 2017, and rears were 2019. Receipts for both are included within the maintenance documentation I’ve kept. If you’d like, I can add pictures of the tire manufacture dates.
Is the ims service a solution or something that needs to be routinely maintained?

Hi Tstamm. Thanks for your question. The paint is in extremely good condition. The problem with a black car, in very sunny conditions is that some photos will make dust or particulates show as paint defects. There are some very fine clear coat scratches due to my applying a spray on coating and lightly wiping with a microfiber towel. Also, there is minimal rock chip damage to the front bumper. Some minor spec’s here and there. We tried to photograph the largest rock chip (located on the passenger side bumper) which is about an 1/8” in diameter, but it didn’t show in the photo. Overall, I’d rate the paint on this car between an 8 and 9. With a one stage polish, it’s easily a 9 - 10. Other than what has been stated for the bumper and hood, there are no other discernable chips, cracks or damage to paint.
Can you give a detailed description of the paint condition, any rock chips to the front bumper/ hood or anywhere else on the car?
