Now up for auction is this 2003 Porsche 996 Turbo Coupe finished in Seal Grey Metallic over a black full leather interior with carbon fiber and aluminum trim.  Factory equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox and the coveted X50 Power Kit, this 2003 Turbo has been further upgraded with an AWE performance exhaust system, Markski Tuning intercoolers, a racing clutch, low-mass flywheel, Bilstein coilovers, Girodisc brakes, BBS wheels, GT3 Recaro bucket seats, and much more.  Claimed produce as much as 600 HP, this generously equipped 996 Turbo has been recently serviced and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Delaware with approximately 85k miles showing on the odometer.

This 996 came factory finished in Seal Grey Metallic and has been customized with a Strosek rear wing and Turbo S front spoiler as well as color-matched GTC side scoops.  The lighting has also been upgraded with new tinted side markers, LED H11 high beam bulbs, 6,000K D2S HID low beam bulbs, yellow H3 LED fog lights, and LED bulbs for the rear license plate housing and parking lights.  The car has seen track use on a few occasions and has recently undergone a paint correction and application of C-Quartz ceramic coating.  Only minor cosmetic imperfections are noted throughout the exterior, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  This Turbo rides on 18”x9” and 18”x11.5” BBS E88 wheels finished in gold with new red/gold center caps, upgraded studs, and 15mm spacers. This 996 is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.6L Mezger flat-six engine with the factory optional X50 Power Kit which includes upgraded K24 turbochargers borrowed from the GT2.  All four wheels are driven through a Getrag G96/50 6-speed manual transmission with an upgraded racing clutch, low-mass flywheel, 997 shifter, and new GT2 master cylinder.  The engine has been upgraded with an AWE performance exhaust system, Markski Tuning 4.5” intercoolers, welded coolant pipes, stiffer mounts, EVOMS silicone boost hoses, EVOMS diverter valves, and a GIAC tune.  The suspension has been upgraded with Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, anti-squat/dive Elephant Racing caster arms, and thicker sway bars.  The factory braking system has also been overhauled with a Girodisc caliper rebuild kit, Girdodisc floating rotors, and new Brembo brake pads.  Recent service includes all new coil packs, spark plugs, and fluids.  The seller adds that approximately 30k miles have been driven since the installation of the performance upgrades.

This sale will include owners manuals, a master key, and some service records.

    Seems like a pretty well-sorted car to me. 85k miles and still looking pretty good, other than a worn driver seat. He used it for the track but not too hard. Search and try to find a 6-spd X-50 for this price. I believe the seller has only good intentions as he seemed to answer all the questions except the "DME", which with this many mods seems kind of irrelevant.

  • lennlen 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @Jericho77 the carfax is inaccurate. Current seller only had this car since approximately October. I personally saw this car back in September. It was acquired by the 4th owner on a trade for a salvage/rebuilt R8, then bought by this current seller (5th owner) in October.

    Looks like a really well-sorted and tastefully modded car. I also own a built 996TT and it is common knowledge that the 2-range DME is not a valuable tool especially once modded.

    Can it give you some indication on how the car was driven? Sure, but it does not mean anything in terms of the car having a solid healthy engine.

    Look at the money people spend on 993 and earlier Porsches… are they worried about overrev reports?

    Good luck to the bidders! Modified 996 turbos are an amazing car to experience.

    I've been watching all the 996Ts come across here to replace my Viper. This is my first comment. I'm VERY surprised that they let Yuro keep on this like when its been pretty obvious that a DME report would be no more useful than a handful of toilet paper in this case. I hope all that trash won't affect the outcome here, but I don't see how it couldn't.

    When your first question is DME report,you're most likely a brain damage person to deal with and should buy a new car rather than a 20yo performance vehicle. Enjoy your Subaru or Prius.

  • Yuro (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    >This being my first Porsche I personally wasn’t even aware of such thing or else it would’ve had it done when it was at the dealer getting serviced.

    >But thanks man, just a FYI being ignorant doesn’t get you anywhere in life

    Your first auction and your first Porsche but I'm the ignorant one?

    I don't need to watch the video because I've read a lot about DME overrev reports. Haven't needed one for a while. This car is modded and it's a stick and it's easy to over-rev. Yes, it's a Metzger motor and should be a bit more rugged, but it's not indestructible and certainly not cheap to fix..

    I'm out, "buddy". Interesting car.

    Happy holidays. Again, good luck with your sale.

  • lucas_r302 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @Yuro LoL that’s great for you buddy. I personally don’t care what you have, like I said multiple times this car is for some one who wants to have fun and know what it is.

    The car was never retuned, the tune has been in it for years.

    You coming here commenting range 5-6, saying emissions issues, saying you need this and that. Just shows me you don’t know a thing of what you’re looking at.

    I even tried and be nice and share a video that explains it more so u can learn something and you reply with a ignorant response of “I read it already” it’s a video so what did you read? LoL

    And personally i wouldn’t even want to sell it to some one like you, I hope it goes to a real enthusiast not some one who goes to bed with their Dme report every night.

    I would love to have the report but personally didn’t even know about it till a few weeks ago. This being my first Porsche I personally wasn’t even aware of such thing or else it would’ve had it done when it was at the dealer getting serviced.

    But thanks man, just a FYI being ignorant doesn’t get you anywhere in life. if you were really interested you would’ve messaged me with your number and talked to me like multiple guys here have done. you’re clearly with just too much time on a holiday and bored. Wish you best of luck and happy New Years.

    @lucas_r302 " live in a area where you don’t have any support for a car like this you would understand.
    Country place with not much around but cows." This is an excuse. Translated, it either means you are too lazy to get the DME for your bidders or you are hiding a really bad over-rev. Sorry to be blunt about this, but I've seen a lot of these auctions. The ones who really get the bids provide everything without questioning the bidder's sanity. If we were that sane, we wouldn't be buying expensive sports cars in the first place.

    "Passed inspection with flying colors, it’s actually in the pictures on the last car fax." - Found it. Thanks for that. Did you have to change the software back to stock to pass the emissions test? It doesn't say. I don't think this car would pass in CA, just because it's a non-stock exhaust and intake, but I'm in IL. I think the tests are similar to NY.

    BTW, I have a 2.5L 718 GTS (2/3rds of a Turbo engine) with Softronic flash, so I'm in the same sort of boat already with emissions on that car.

    Good luck with this sale!!!

    @Yuro No excuses, just simple facts buddy. If you had any idea what it’s like to live in a area where you don’t have any support for a car like this you would understand.

    Country place with not much around but cows.
    Maybe I should ask one of them for a Dme report?

    Passed inspection with flying colors, it’s actually in the pictures on the last car fax.

    As far as not making reserve and being re listed.
    as of now I’ve personally came to the conclusion that it will most likely be staying for good if it doesn’t.

    you will have to be ditching out every bit 100K to build the same car now if you can even find a true 6spd x50 for sub 60-65k now days with same miles and every known issue fixed, upgraded, and serviced. And that will most likely be stock or a base.

    Not counting on discontinued parts like the sway bars and other pieces. you simply can’t get this stuff anymore.

    And on top of that you can’t match this car to anything at even at over reserve let alone at reserve.

    to get a built 911 turbo with all quality parts for how cheap? we will look back 2 years from now and say wow I should’ve bought one when they were cheap.

    Remember guys 930 turbos and 993’s were all once this cheap. don’t miss the train, and this one only comes around once.

    Good luck to the interested parties hope to be talking to one of you soon.

  • Yuro (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @lucas_r302 :

    Thanks for that link. I've already read it. It was a while ago and I'd forgot that 996 has only 2 zones.

    My point is, if you go to all the trouble to take the photos and do the auction, to hand out a bunch of excuses when someone asks for the DME is going to cost you money. It's a reasonable request for ANY manual trans Porsche with DME report capability.

    Will this car to pass an emissions test with the GIAC tune? Can it be easily un-tuned for tests?

    I really like the car or I wouldn't be here. It does seem a little bit like a handymans's special though. I want to make sure the fixing up didn't involve a new engine. DME report isn't everything, but it's something and it's fair to ask for one.

    As to the IMS, I know this is a Metzger engine and they just don't blow IMS bearings ever.

    Hope the car sells, but my guess is that it will not make the reserve and will be re-listed AFTER the owner gets a DME report. Whoever buys this car, I hope it's great for them.

    @montegofd3s that is correct, no issue there.

    Only on Na c2-4

    Mezger’s are completely different over them.

    This stands for all
    Turbos
    Gt3
    Gt2.

    I’ll drop a link here that explains Dme reports a little better on 996’s hope it helps some of the other guys understand it better.

    https://youtu.be/HKgOAWMjZLQ

    Doug goes in to detail and even shows first hand how it all works. very good video to watch for anyone looking at any Porsche. Or dealing with buyers,

    I also explained everything about why I haven’t done one in the comments down low for anyone actually interested. good luck guys ??

    Knowledge is power

  • montegofd3s (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @wab_jr I believe the IMS isn't as much of a concern on the turbo engines.

  • wab_jr (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @Yuro The 996 turbo only has 2 rev zones
    Type 1 & type 2. The 997 has the extended zones 1-6.

    I’m in no way intimating that overrevs are safe. These motors are virtually bullet-proof and the internals are good up to 600hp as the reputable tuners & builders attest.

    I certainly understand trying to buy the best car at the best price. And yes, these are expensive toys. I’ve got an 02 turbo that came with suspension & track mods that I went through from nose to tail & refreshed with all porsche parts to the tune of about 30k and an 00 C2 factory aero car that I’m refreshing all suspension, rubber, hoses,belts, clutch, RMS, IMS Solution , a UAOS (ultimate AOS) and more; all this for my own piece of mind.

    Don’t forget that these are 20 years old and demand attention.

    I don’t have a horse in this race . I responded only to refute some of the internet experts. I’m still waiting for someone to ask about the IMS…

  • Yuro (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @wab_jr I too am wondering why this owner is balking so seriously about DME. Are the revs in Zone 5 and 6? It's not unreasonable to ask that. These motors are EXPENSIVE.

    You want good bids, you need to provide good information.

    The fact that the car has mods and the red line is moved up doesn't matter. I don't see other mods that would make over-revs safer...like double valve springs and new pistons and rods, so overrevs create the same problems for this car as for a stock one....more actually because there's more boost here.

  • wab_jr (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Comparing dme report on a tuned engine to one with the original factory settings is an apples to oranges comparison. Rev limits have been altered so the readings do not necessarily correspond to over-revs resulting from missed or poorly executed downshifts.
    This example is not meant for a stock purist car audience. If you want that, go find another car. This car has some great first class mods that are fast street & track .

  • lennlen 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Carfax report is interesting. I encourage potential buyers to google the VIN as it has been listed in the last year with more history. I am aware of 5 prior owners of this car, the last 3 being in the past 12 months. Probably wont matter for most - I too am a 6th owner of a different 996tt.

  • montegofd3s (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @Lottacars I believe it's worth whatever faith the buyer puts into the report, but to each his own. I'm curious how many DME reports you have received on vehicles of any other manufacturer? Not fighting I'm just generally curious.

  • Lottacars (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @montegofd3s review all of the successful auctions of cars that have been tracked and they all provide DME reports. If you buy the car without the report, then when you go to sell it you either have to provide one in which case it may have significant overrevs or you have to try to sell without. Yes you can buy it and have fun with it but the “exit”is the worry. It is worth whatever risk the buyer wants to take.

    @Lottacars hey buddy no worries,

    you know you have some cars that are for real enthusiast who buy cars to enjoy them and you have others who buy cars to cruise to cars and coffee and compare Dme reports.

    Nothing wrong with neither but maybe it’s not the car for you. Maybe a stock one fits your agenda a little better, this is for guys who want to have fun and really experience what a well setup x50 is like, not many made and a future classic that’s only going one way in price. it will be one hell of a Christmas present to some one! and the right guy will appreciate it for what it is and hopefully use it for what it was built for.

    3 days left so I wish everyone else best of luck and hopefully it goes to a good home who’s going to really enjoy it. One hell of a car and one lucky guy will get to take it home soon. good luck guys!

    the person for this car is like I said some one who wants a well built all do it all

  • lucas_r302 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @993RSR @993RSR hey

    So with the wheel bearings being a Replaceable/Wearable Part they have been done at the end of every season from what I’ve been told. Not replaced this year but I had planned to do them as a peace of mind this winter.

    As of the spoiler hydraulics they work perfectly fine no leaks or any issues… actually posted a video of it on the drop box link I commented on here, going up and down and working as they should.

    As far as the side scoops they are on using some kind of adhesive straight from JTC. I was told they are still able to come off if needed be.

    Hope that helps thanks

  • 993RSR (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    With the car being tracked, have the wheel bearings been replaced recently? Track driving as well as spacers can certainly shorten their lives. Any of the spoiler rams been replaced or refurbished? How are the side scoops attached, adhesive tape?

    @Lottacars also if you Break it down most track/hpde events are usually 4 sessions of 20 minutes. So let’s just exaggerate and say he did 3 of those 4 sessions, that’s 60 minutes or a hour a month, every season up here is usually 4-5 months. So I think it’s safe to say between 4-5hrs a year.

    Hope that helps

  • lucas_r302 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @Lottacars hey,

    Honestly wish I had a better answer but from what I was told a few times a year. Guessing at least once a month during the season, and put away for winter.

    Ever since I’ve owned it and previous owner we both just used it on the road and no track time this whole year. so it’s been a while since it’s seen any kinda track. hope that helps, thanks.

    @bunger78 no leaks.

  • bunger78 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Looks like you've got a broken stud on the passenger side turbine, does the downpipe leak at all there?

  • lucas_r302 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @Lottacars I do not, I don’t have any extra parts unfortunately. but if you or anyone else chooses to take the car back to stock I’m sure a lot of people would love to trade you for this one or any other parts…

    Wheels can be sold for $6-7k now days with tires

    Wing everyone on the 996 pages ask me everyday to buy it so I’m sure u would have no issues finding a home for it and a Oem one to replace it.

    seats are close to $7k now days. And etc. the value is there for anyone who wants to buy a setup car and either part it out and go back to stock or enjoy it as is.

  • Lottacars (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @lucas_r302 ok thanks do you have the OEM wing?

  • lucas_r302 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @Lottacars hi,

    So the wing is the same as a Oem one. Just a bigger, no difference in the way it’s installed or removed.

    I will add some pictures to my drop drive link of the wing so you can get a better idea. It looks fantastic in person and goes with the front splitter and everything else. Hope that helps

    Thank you

  • Lottacars (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Sorry!! I did see your comment about track days………

  • Lottacars (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Hi can the strosek wing be removed or will it leave drilled holes etc? Just a bit much for me.

    Have you tracked the car?

  • lucas_r302 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @16v4age thank you!

    And I agree but also disagree.. I’ve personally owned a lot of cars and neither one of them ever offered anything such as a Dme report, so I always approached it the same way I did with any other car..

    Over all conditions, maintenance, how the car really drives, and simply treat it as any other car.

    Dme report on a 996 from what I’ve seen it’s not exactly the best tool being it only gives you 2 ranges. And on top of that for a car that is tuned makes things even more confusing for the report.

    Personally I think too many people get too caught up on those reports and simply forget the basics. It’s just a car at the end of the day and a report of revolutions mean absolutely nothing to me if the cars over all conditions aren’t up to it.

    but either way I am looking in to it and trying to find some one local to be able to do it. hopefully I can figure out for those who absolutely need it.

    thank you!

  • 16v4age (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Very well equipped car! Good luck on the sale! A DME report is a must on this just peace of mind for the next owner.

  • lucas_r302 (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @imsLOL hi

    So as far as getting a Dme done there’s really no one around unfortunately that even touches these but I can check again this week to see if I can find anyone who would be able to.. unfortunately the car is down by the beach and even my closest tech is in Annapolis so either way it’s over 2hrs in each direction to get it done by either dealer or any shop I trust or anyone in that matter who can do it… it’s one of many frustrations about owning a car like this in this area.

    The lines have been welded and done being it used to be a weekend car so it has seen a pretty good bit of track days and road use threw its life but always very well taken cared of.

    Car is tuned to see between 1.2-1.4 bar depending now thats winter and the car breathe better.

    again all of these mods have been on The car for a while and I daily drive it. Runs fantastic and I wouldn’t hesitate to drive it to Florida or simply use it like I’ve been..

    Trying to be as open as I can and I wish I could provide more info but that’s simply all I have to work with and being in the area I live in makes things a little hard… hope you understand and any other questions you might have don’t hesitate to ask. Thanks!

  • imsLOL (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Hi there,

    Any chance you can get to a local shop and get a DME report? I'm curious if the GIAC software has caused any issues with overrevs or corrupted the ECU as some tunes do. Also, what boost is the car running at WOT? I know the turbo cars can be tuned to crazy high pressure with an ECU flash.

    Have the coolant lines been pinned or welded, and can you post documentation for this? It doesn't seem to be in the carfax. Lastly, how much time has this car spent at the track?

    @CylinderHead I do not.. closest Porsche dealer to me is over 2hrs unfortunately so I haven’t had a chance to take it to them and ask for one.

    But that being said I wouldn’t hesitate to get in the car and drive it cross country if needed be. Very dependable car

    Good afternoon. This is my first auction on PCAR and my name is Lucas. I bought this car for myself to share with my father who’s been dreaming of a 911 for years..me and him had a chance to own it and drive it to many events and really enjoy it, I used it as much as I possible could at least 4-5 times a week (weather permitting) but now as circumstances change and I’m ready to close on a property she’s ready for a new home. I absolutely love it and will for sure stay in touch with who ever buys it so maybe one day I’ll be able to get it back ;). I’ve personally owned just about everything from Ls swapped miatas to just about every Bmw to every Subaru, to blower corvettes etc… easy to say I am a big car guy and try and take the best care and only use the best people/shops and parts when it comes to my projects… So my car hobbies are a little of everything.

    I look forward to chatting with all of you over the next week and for anyone that would need to speak verbally we can absolutely do that anytime.

    Good luck to all of you and I really hope some one can enjoy it as much as I was able to.
    The car absolutely blows your mind on how it presents it self in person and how fast it is. Put together very well and ready to be a daily drive or a weekend warrior/canyon carver if that’s what you’re in to. it corners like a cup car and leaves corners like a drag car while staying quiet and having a great sound system for days you just want to cruise with the windows down and enjoy the weather. Absolutely blew my expectations away and I know it will for anyone else who gets behind the wheel.

    Good luck guys! And don’t miss out, cars like this don’t come up for sale often. it’s a very special thing, if you’re a Porsche enthusiast this is everything you’ve dreamed of. I called her the ultimate package
