Available for auction is this 2003 Audi C5 RS6 finished in Avus Silver over an Ebony leather interior. The RS6 was Audi’s first RS car to be sold new in the U.S. and was offered in very limited quantities. With its 40-valve twin-turbocharged V8 engine, Quattro all-wheel-drive system, and 8-piston Brembo brake calipers, the RS6 was one of the world’s most high-performance sedans upon its debut. This example boasts a long service history and a host of high-end upgrades including an Ohlins coilover suspension, MTM torque converter, a full Milltek exhaust, a REVO stage 2 performance tune, and more. Acquired by the current owner in 2014, this RS6 has since undergone a major engine-out service and is now being offered for auction out of Maryland while showing just over 94k miles on the odometer.

This example is presented in Avus Silver and features RS-specific flared wheel arches, revised front and rear fascias, a rear lip spoiler, and large dual exhaust tips. Some minor scrapes and scratches are noted throughout the exterior, and the seller reports that the front bumper was refinished in 2018 for cosmetic purposes, additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. This example is also equipped with fog lights, headlamp washers, rear parking sensors, a sunroof, upgraded LED taillights, and nano-ceramic Llumar Formula One window tint. Massive 8-piston Brembo calipers sporting “RS” logos are tucked behind 18” aluminum wheels dressed in Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires showing date codes from 2012. The seller notes that the tires will need to be replaced in the near future.

The cabin is upholstered in Ebony leather with matching door panels and carpets as well as dark burl wood trim accents throughout the dashboard, door panels, and center console. Amenities include front and rear heated seats, automatic climate control, rear window shades, upgraded LED interior lighting, and an upgraded Audi RNS-e navigation system. The seller notes sagging of the headliner towards the rear of the cabin, some fading of the digital display in the instrument cluster on hot days, and peeling on some rubberized surface coatings.  There are no error codes or warning lights present, and a new face panel for the HVAC system is said to accompany the sale.

Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.2L V8 DOHC engine with five valves per cylinder. Output was rated at 450 HP and 415 lb.-ft of torque when new. The Quattro all-wheel-drive system is driven through a five-speed Tiptronic automatic transaxle with a Torsen center differential. This RS6 also features a number of high-end upgrades as listed below:

  • Stasis Ohlins Coilovers
  • 034 Motorsports Upper Control Arms
  • Hotchkiss Front and Rear Sway Bars
  • Revo Stage 2 Engine Tune
  • Powdercoated Y-pipe and valve covers
  • MTM Torque Convertor
  • Milltek Exhaust
  • Apikol Rear Differential Mount and Carrier Bushings
  • Apikol Engine Mounts with The Ability To Override Electronic Monitoring
  • Apikol Transmission Mount
  • Apikol Air Intake Seals
  • 034 Motorsports Snub Mount
  • Silly Rabbit Motorsports Intercoolers
  • Stratmosphere Diverter Valves
  • Silicone Intercooler Hoses
  • Secondary Radiator Delete
  • Red Top Battery

The CARFAX report shows service dating as far back as 2004 and the seller has compiled a comprehensive timeline of maintenance which is provided for reference in the photo gallery. The brakes have been newly replaced and a major engine-out service was completed in 2018 at 87k miles, and more recently in 2021 the engine was smoke tested for intake leaks, and an intake hose was replaced along with the intake manifold gasket, mass airflow sensor seals, connectors, and headlight washer check valve. The seller notes that the underbelly pan has been removed to begin the installation of the Sportec lower air vent mod, although this project has not been completed.  All of the parts and materials will be included to finish the installation.

This sale will include a collection of spare parts and accessories, service records, owner's manuals, a set of two remote keys, a spare master key, and a clean title. Do not miss the chance to own a very well cared for and tastefully upgraded example of one of Audi’s most significant RS cars.

    *****All - important service announcement*****

The vehicle had gone into “transmission limp” mode a few times throughout my ownership of it. 2 days ago it did it once again however, came out of it upon restart of the engine. I took it to my specialist who’s done most work on it and the well known and common transmission neutral switch was the problem l purchased and overnighted a new OEM switch ($385.84) and had him install it today ($360.00). The car drives flawlessly and I have put on a good 100+ spirited miles on it.

Very intermittent issue over the entire time I’ve owned it but- figured it would be best to have this handled before the sale.

The respective receipts will come with the sale for this service ?

    Best,
    Paul

    Additional pictures uploaded!

All - as an FYI - I had emailed P Car Marketplace for them to upload additional under-car pictures as well as the headliner. Hope they will be uploaded shortly.

@Ambassador-Auto yes - certainly. Should be able to get a picture later on today. Also - interestingly enough I did submit pictures of the underside of the car and, appears as they didn't get uploaded. That said - for both of these picture requests I guess I need to reach out to P Car Market to figure out how to add additional pictures. I will work on that throughout the day today and hopefully obtain a timely response from their team.

On the paint meter - unfortunately I do not have access to such. As mentioned in the ad - I have personally had the front bumper repainted due to it having license plate holes when I got it and, that was not my cup of tea. Outside of this - I was told by several body shops that the remainder of the paint appears to be original.

Seller, hello. Would you be able to supply a picture of the sagging rear headliner. Also any chance you could supply some pictures of the underside of the car along with the suspension. I don't know if you have access to a paint meter, but paint meter reading pictures would also be very helpful. All these would help tell the story better for us bidders. Thanks in advance.

    @ronS12 Certainly.

    The 2nd engine out service:
6-7/2018 @ 87,000 miles – SECOND ENGINE OUT SERVICE PERFORMED. The driver’s side turbo started making a drilling sound. At the same time the car encountered a vacuum leak issue as well. The engine was pulled along with the tranny and separated. Turbos were fully rebuilt by Tri-State Turbocharger in NJ with all new internals. Additionally, since the engine was out – also performed a SECOND TIMING BELT SERVICE utilizing the BlauParts “Enhanced” kit which included: Timing belt, timing tensioner, tensioning damper, tensioner idlers, new GRAF waterpump, serpentine belt, thermostat, front crank seal, camshaft seals, Raveno coolant, etc. Additionally, performed a valve cover gasket and cam chain tensioner service. This included new Valve Cover Gaskets, camshaft valley seals, cam chain tensioner gaskets, camshaft seals, cam reference sensor seals, camshaft endcap seals, cam chain pads, cam chain tensioner. Replaced the rear main seal again… as the engine was out. Installed a new voltage regulator. Installed a new temperature switch. Installed new spark plugs and coilpacks. THAT SAID - there were some vacuum lines that had just deteriorated on top of the intake manifold below the intake box. Those were replaced and the crimps were replaced with better hose type crimps. AND - - - the T-Belt service was done "while at it" as I didn't want to go through half of this exercise again in 20K miles and pull everything apart. It was all out, engine out, apart, etc. Much easier and simpler to get to all those components.

ON THE MOST RECENT VACUUM ISSUE - - - car had an intermittent check engine light that we had an issue diagnosing. The car was smoke tested and smoke noted coming from underneath the intake box again. Ran with that for quite sometime continuing to replace vacuum lines again which didn't resolve the issue. Came to find out several attempts later that the seals around the MAF housings went to crap. Found the retrofit kit from Apikol that gets glued in and have 2K+ miles now with no issues. What was happening was that unmetered air was getting in as it was "sneaking" around the MAF where the seal was bad to the turbo intake pipes.

Let me know if any other questions!

    Best,
    Paul

The list of work completed is nice to see. Thank you for that. Why perform the second timing built service, with only about 20k miles from the first service? Please speak to the smoke test/repairs in Feb 2021. That is, issues leading to the test.

@autohaus-vt Certainly. 87k miles. June - July of 2018. Take a peek at the picture of ALL the services conducted. Lots of really good details on there!

  • autohaus-vt (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Can you tell us when the last T/belt service was done?

  • Pzhgilov (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Hi all! Thank you for checking out the listing for my RS6. This has been my pride and joy for many years and I would be glad to answer any and all questions that you may have!
