Finished in Sterling Grey Metallic over Grey Montana Leather upholstery this 2003 BMW E39 540i Touring is powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine and features the optional M Sport Package. In addition to a 5-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with a low-ratio rear axle and high-stall torque converter, this sought-after package includes an M Sport aerodynamic bodykit, M Sport suspension, M Sport interior accessories, and M Sport wheels. This E39 was owned by a BMW technician prior to the seller’s purchase and benefits from extensive recent service including replacement of the timing chains, VANOS system, valve cover gaskets, brakes, tires, and transmission fluid. Said to be one of only 182 Touring M Sport versions imported to the United States and only 15 to have come finished in this color combination, this 540i is now being offered for auction out of New Hampshire while showing approximately 102k miles on the odometer,

This E39 is finished in Sterling Grey Metallic and features high-gloss black Shadowline trim as part of the M Sport Package along with the M Sport Aerokit which adds revised bumpers and side skirts. The car also features xenon headlights, front fog lights, black roof rails, and 17” Style 66 M Sport alloy wheels dressed in new Hankook tires. The seller notes the bottoms of the doors and rocker panels have been refinished to address chips, a dent was repaired on the left rear rocker, some stone chips have been touched up on the hood, and one small imperfection is present on the trunk lid. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report showing damage to the right front end in 2003.

The cabin is appointed with Grey Montana Leather upholstery accented by Fine Wood Trim and M Sport Package accessories including a black headliner, an M Sport footrest, M Sport door sills, and a three-spoke M Sport multifunction steering wheel. Other equipment includes heated front comfort seats with lumbar support and memory, an electric glass sunroof, rear window roller shades, automatic climate control, and an onboard computer. The seller notes the interior was recently detailed including steam cleaning the carpets, sanitizing the air vents, and conditioning the leather. The cup holders beneath the radio were also replaced. All gauges and accessories are fully functional, although some pixels have failed on the LCD instrument cluster display.

This 540i is equipped with a naturally aspirated 4.4-liter M62 V8 engine featuring double-VANOS variable valve timing and an output of up to 286 HP and 325 lb.-ft of torque. The M Sport Package adds a 5-speed Steptronic automatic transmission with a 3.15:1 performance rear axle and a high-stall torque converter which provide quicker acceleration. The M Sport Package also includes a lower sport suspension with firmer struts, springs, and sway bars. Service completed within the last three months is said to include the replacement of the timing chains and guides, VANOS system, valve cover gaskets, brake rotor & pads, a transmission service, and a four-wheel alignment.

any major work done on the transmission other than changing oil? i have owned a few of these and every single one of them needed the transmission replaced at or near 100,000 miles.

@Steveduva They will issue a 10 day plate I believe. You will have to go to a DMV to get one. There is one right in Epping NH.

I have checked out this car in person and it presents very well. It's a clean driver with all the big maintenance topics covered. If you are in the market for a V8 Euro wagon, this is the one to watch.
