This 2003 example is a high-performance CL55 AMG version finished in Black over an AMG Charcoal leather interior. It comes equipped with a hand-built 5.4-liter supercharged V8 as well as an AMG-tuned 5-speed automatic transmission, AMG High-Performance Brake System, AMG Sport Exhaust System, AMG Aerodynamic Bodywork, 18” AMG wheels, an AMG Sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, Keyless-GO entry, an electronic trunk closer, Parktronic park assist, power rear window shades, climatized massaging seats, a Bose sound system, and much more. Said to have been obsessively maintained by two prior owners, this CL55 AMG is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas with approximately 48k miles showing on the odometer.

The two-door C215 features advanced bodywork with a sleek pillarless window design, a bonded aluminum roof and rear quarter panels, magnesium door frames, and a composite plastic trunk lid and front fenders. This CL55 AMG is finished in Black and includes AMG Aerodynamic Bodywork with a sculpted front air dam, side skirts, and rear apron. Other details include polished AMG quad exhaust tips, Bi-Xenon headlamps, power-folding mirrors, an electronic trunk closer, a power tilt-slide sunroof in glass, AMG-branded brake calipers, and 18” AMG twin five-spoke alloy wheels. The car rides on Michelin tires which are about 18 months old in front and 3 years old in the rear. The seller notes one spare rim is included and some typical chips and paint swirls are said to be consistent with the vehicle’s mileage. The car was recently detailed and fitted with a new OEM windshield by Mercedes-Benz of Grapevine. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with AMG Charcoal leather upholstery and burred walnut root wood trim. Accessories include 14-way heated, ventilated, and massaging multi-contour seats with memory settings, an AMG Sport multifunction steering wheel with paddle shifters, a rear power window shade, auto-dimming mirrors, a rain sensor, Parktronic park assist, Distronic cruise control, a Bose sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, a Motorola V60 phone handset, and COMAND APS with navigation. All accessories and electronics are said to remain fully functional.

Power comes from a hand-built 5.4-liter supercharged M113K V8 engine rated at 493 HP and 516 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed AMG SpeedShift automatic transmission. Standard features include hydropneumatic Active Body Control (ABC) suspension, an AMG High-Performance Brake System, and the AMG Sport Exhaust System.  The seller notes a Mercedes-Benz “B” service was recently completed which included the following items:

The seller would like you to know: “2003 Mercedes Benz CL55 AMG black with Charcoal leather.  The odometer currently shows 48,476 miles, one of the lowest mile reasonable price CLs available on the market today.  This was Mercedes Benz’s top-of-the-line model; a Grand Touring car and considered their premier model.  The CL stands for Coupé Leicht (Coupé Light); 2003 was the first year for the hand-built Supercharged M113K motor; a one-man, one engine producing 493 horsepower and 516 foot-pounds of torque.  This allows the car to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds and achieve a top speed limited to 155MPH.  It has a Mercedes Benz 5-speed automatic ‘SpeedShift’ 722.6 transmission featuring economy, sport, and manual modes.  To slow things down it has 6-piston calipers up front and 4-piston calipers in the rear; rotor size in the front is 14” and 13” in the rear. The CL55 features a beautiful pillarless window design and incorporates the very latest in Mercedes-Benz technology.  CL coupés received the following new technological features; it introduced the refined ABC (Active Body Control) fully active suspension along with incredibly bright Bi-Xenon HID headlights. The following features were standard equipment: climate control, ABC (hydraulic) suspension, all-leather interior, designer wood trim, a trip computer, CD, navigation system, front heated seats, power moonroof, as well as power door and trunk closing assist.  This one also has front fan-cooled and heated seats. All the above; but especially the ABC self-leveling suspension are the many reasons that Mr. Ed Bolian selected a Mercedes Benz CL55 for his cross-country run in October of 2013 where he traveled across the US from NYC to LA in 28 hours and 50 minutes. This car has never been modified in any way; it is as delivered.  No tint and no clear bra.  Original window sticker included with records.  The sticker price in 2003 was $120,500.00. It has only two owners from new and a clean Carfax.  It’s been obsessively maintained by both owners.  I have the records and other information to confirm the services. Regarding technology that went into this car when it was designed and built, here is what I know: The Coupe was based on the 98-05 Mercedes Benz S-Class (W220) but has an 8” shorter wheelbase.  Construction of the chassis was a uni-body type that was unique to the CL-Class, constructed of a steel floor pan, chassis rails, and A-pillars with a bonded aluminum roof and rear wing sections, featuring magnesium door frames and composite plastic used for the boot/trunk and front wings. The C215 exterior design and active suspension were previewed by the Mercedes Benz F200 concept in 1996.  All models seat four.  The exterior design produced a drag coefficient of 0.29 for the AMG variant.  It is a beautiful and timeless design.  Please contact me directly with any questions. This is truly a vehicle that you can set a coast-to-coast record in one day and take your mom to church the next Sunday. As for additional information, please contact me directly; I am happy to share all I know with interested parties.”

    All- Had some questions on the paint and potential chips. First, this is gloss black (non-metallic). To address these paint quality questions, I believe in one of the videos I took earlier in the week I mentioned the car was detailed about 10 days prior and not driven or washed since then. The car is non-covered in my garage, and I live in a somewhat rural area where the wind blows quite a lot (dust), and the water quality is not so good. It contains lots of TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), so it's not optimal for car washing - at lest a black car even when you towel or shammy dry it. That said, I wanted to list some pictures I took outside late today. It's apparent to me looking at any images that were part of the original listing and taken in the garage under bright LED light, can make the car appear to have 'chips' or white marks. Hopefully, these images will help show how clean the vehicle is. There are a few chips, mostly near the headlights, grille surround and lover front valance - but not many. Chips seem to show up on freeway driven vehicles, and this was not driven very much on the freeways as I understand. I've tried my best to highlight/point to them in pictures. Please let me know if any questions - hope this is helpful.

    @Marco500 The wheel sizes are 8 inch, and 9 inch respectively. I just uploaded a photo, there’s a number of good resources on the web including tire rack that has car specific and wheel specific information.

    To all prospective bidders - this is what I believe is the cleanest, most well-kept lowest mileage CL55 currently on the market today. As we come down to the final day of bidding, please let me know if any questions. I am happy to put the winning bidder in touch with the MB SLR mechanic that has worked on this car during my ownership. If any special requests, please let me know. I have tried to be as detailed and thorough as possible. I am off this week and close to the vehicle if any questions arise. Thank you all-

    @Marco500 Sure- here you are:
    Front: 245 x 45 ZR18
    Rear: 265 x 40 ZR18

    Also, the wheels that look the same across MB are in fact different offsets... The S - class wheels are what the CL uses... The SL - class wheels are different and as I understand are NOT interchangeable. The E - class wheels are different from all the above (you may need spacers, some people have made it work, but I would not attempt!). The part number on the front wheels is shown in the photo gallery- I cannot post the part # for you as PCarMarket sees the part # as a phone #.

    @vero - sure. I just looked, the dimensions are pretty large for a coupe actually. The measuring tape I used has a bod that is 3", so that's added to the number you see on the image. It measures at 44" wide (3' 8") and 34.25" deep (2' 10.25"). As you may expect, there are some inset areas in the trunk, I have take images of those for you with the tape as well and will share them to the image site for the staff @PCARMARKET to add to the image library so you can see the details.
