Built with no expense spared, this 2003 Porsche 996 Turbo has received more than $50,000 worth of track-focused modifications. Its powertrain was modified by PES Performance Engineering Systems for a claimed output of over 700 HP.  Performance features include adding 19” forged aluminum race wheels, TechArt headers, a Fabspeed Maxflo muffler, and much more. The styling has been customized with a Techart front end and rear spoiler as well as custom airbrushed designs. This 996 is now being offered by its seller out of North Carolina showing approximately 12k miles on the odometer.

This 996 comes finished in Basalt Black Metallic and features custom airbrushed designs by famous artist Rich Keylard at Airephix including “474” on the doors and hood in addition to a design on the Techart rear spoiler. A TechArt front end has also replaced the original. The 19” aftermarket one-piece forged aluminum race wheels come wrapped in a new set of Hoosier R7 tires. The exterior is also complemented by custom stainless exhaust tips. The seller reports a small imperfection on the driver’s side rear quarter panel and notes this vehicle has been treated with Teflon protection. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report

The black full leather interior has been modified with a RaceCam in-car video system, silver Porsche roll cage, black leather Porsche 996 GT3 racing seats, Momo steering wheel, Momo shift knob, aluminum race pedals, fire extinguisher, and five-point racing harnesses. The seller notes the check engine light is illuminated as the catalytic converters have been removed and the seatbelt warning is present as the factory belts are removed.

This 996 Turbo is powered by an upgraded flat-six engine with Stage 4 turbos and is claimed to produce more than 700 HP. Power is sent to all four wheels via a GBox 6-speed race-grade transmission. Other performance modifications include an Evo throttle body, Fabspeed Maxflo muffler, short shifter kit, lightweight clutch, lightweight flywheel, Audi eight-piston Brembo front calipers, and TechArt headers. Recent service includes new rotors and new PAGID brake pads. The seller adds that this car is ideal for High-Performance Driver Education (HPDE) and other track events.

This sale will include a clean title and some documentation.

@chick474 No it wasn't you. It was one of the bidders who said "race car." I know a lot of folks have never been to an HPDE and probably don't know the difference.

Still, the track prepped DE cars that bring all the money usually have a much more complete and transparent list of mods in their listing. It's your choice not to provide that, but it's information a fellow track junkie might find helpful given the "art" on the frunk and doors. By now I think you've realized it's not everyone's cup of tea.

@Quackbury You Quack me up. I said my car is perfect for HPDE driving events not racing. I can't really address all your issues before this auction ends, so let's leave it here and move on. Have a splendid Labor Day Weekend!

  • Quackbury (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

So much cognitive dissonance here. The rest of the build is lovely, the interior (save for the bizarre headliner rip) is elegant, but those Hot Wheels paintings? Like a prison tattoo on the Mona Lisa's forehead.

If it was just the hood, I guess the winning bidder could replace it with a CF hood, or have some fun with a Trans Am Firebird "Screaming Chicken" decal. But the fact the doors were also inked would probably require the whole car to be wrapped.

And despite what some bidders may think, this is not a "race car". (a race car with a sunroof???) There is no class, even in PCA Club Racing, where this could run. It's a track day toy. Even so, there is very little detail as one might expect. Who built the motor? How many hours on it? What are you running for boost? What are the internals? Where is the log book? The DME report? The service history? What suspension mods? What brakes? What alignment? Dyno sheets? Date codes on the harness?

It looks like something 15-year-old me would have doodled in study hall. But a lot more information would be needed before this will attract serious bids.

Oh those number blocks are PAINTED on?!? Uggh....what a shame. What are the chances of cutting them and buffing them off? I don't care if Van Gogh painted them, they don't belong there. (my opinion)

  • RABBIT013 1 year, 7 monthsago

I like what you did, ORIGINAL , CUSTOM for someone who wants fast , dependable car. I have seen cars upgraded with junk , the tuner you used is pretty reliable I'm told by guys on the track in PCA . Lucky someone !!

Since I drive my cars I’ll buy it at my price. I can always put my 03 turbo back to stock and sell it

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

The car is going to be worth whatever someone is willing to pay. Unless someone wants a race ready car this is not going to sell. Personally with the low mileage i would have done a whole repaint and put the car back to stock as much as possible, unless
Your name is singer, gunterwerks, ruf the modifications on the car are only going to detract value from stock in the porsche world.

@chick474 i must disagree, talent and art are both subjective.........but let's not turn this into a tit for tat and takeaway from your goal of selling the 996 Turbo......

@foxtrot i agree, unfortunately seller's attachment to the art on this turbo and perceived "added value" is in contrast with bidding to-date and previous attemps to sell this turbo.
on a positive note, i agree maybe a repaint if properly documented would not affect future value....

  • Foxtrot (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

    @hot-rods-to-hell

You are not alone. However, given enough $$$$$ this can be corrected but there goes the original paint! Maybe not... ;-)

  • chick474 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@hot-rods-to-hell You are right but talent is not

  • hot-rods-to-hell (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@chick474 , i did look at his body of work and stand by my words. i guess it comes down to "beauty in the eye of the beholder" .....glws

  • chick474 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@hot-rods-to-hell I am marketing Director for Pol Position racing. Rich Keylard took logo for Pol Position and flipped it upside down to make a design. Please go to Airephix and look at body of work from Rich Keylard. Enough said…..

  • hot-rods-to-hell (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

i don't know how you define "famous artist" but i am having a hard time getting my head around the design......just my opinion, but i find the personalization like these unfortunatly do more harm then good and most likely will impact value. Otherwise incredible 996 Turbo. GLWS

  • chick474 (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Yes, the 474’s are airbrushed by the famous Rich Keylard who airbrushed such things as two semi trucks for West Point Academy. Incredible talent and great friend of mine. Never looked ahead to ever selling this car. Yes this is a purpose built DE track event car if you are an experienced driver.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Devil dog is not me. Got to the rennlist 996 turbo forum and learn about this. The flat six forum will tell you the same thing. Congrats you have a speed yellow and that one seems to be the color to have.

  • Devil_Dog_Ultra (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@luis.seneriz I’ve put 50k miles on my 01 turbo in speed yellow never has it popped out of gear or have any issues really… what are you doing to your cars?

  • matpatte (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@luis.seneriz Yep, the 2003-2005 manuals are the ones to have.

That Ronald McDonald engine bay is.....ummmm, interesting.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Are the 474 emblems painted? It’s a shame is such a low mileage example, this is the best year for the mezger as it is the last of the engine blocks stamped made in Germany and the modified g50 transmission doesn’t have the popping out of second gear issues as the 01 and 02 models. Hopefully someone is really looking for a track ready car, My opinion is in today’s market that the. At is not going to get any additional money for any of the upgrades. I’ll be watching it.
