Debuted for the 2001 model year, the Porsche 996 Turbo features a twin-turbocharged Mezger flat-six engine derived from the Le Mans-winning GT1 race car. This 6-speed 2003 example comes finished in Basalt Black Metallic over a Black full leather interior with optional carbon fiber trim, a three-spoke steering wheel, a leather center console, and heated Sport Seats with Porsche-crested headrests. It was delivered new to Carlsen Porsche of Redwood City, California, at an original sticker price of over $122k and was acquired by the seller in March 2023. A lifelong West Coast car, this Turbo Coupe is now being offered for auction out of Arizona with approximately 3k miles showing on the odometer.

The 996 Turbo features wider bodywork than a contemporary Carrera model as well as rocker panel flares, integrated side air intakes, a front chin spoiler, larger radiator grilles, rear bumper vents, and a speed-activated rear wing. This 2003 example is finished in Basalt Black Metallic and rides on factory 18” 911 Turbo wheels. Other equipment includes red brake calipers, a rear window wiper, dual exhaust outlets, xenon headlights, front fog lights, and an electric sunroof. The car underwent professional paint correction and ceramic coating in March 2023 and some minor cosmetic imperfections are present from tree sap. The seller recommends replacing the original tires due to age. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this 996 Turbo features Black full leather upholstery including optional heated Sport Seats with Porsche-crested headrests. Other options include Carbon Package trim, carbon fiber door sill guards, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, a leather-wrapped front center console, and carbon fiber and aluminum inlays for the shifter and brake handle. Other accessories include a black Alcantara headliner, automatic climate control, cruise control, an onboard computer, a Bose sound system, and a Porsche CDR23 stereo.

A twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six engine delivers up to 415 HP and 415 lb.-ft of torque to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration from 0-60 MPH is achieved in approximately 4 seconds with a top speed of 189 MPH. Stopping power is handled by fixed 4-piston brakes and 330mm cross-drilled discs at each corner. The car also comes equipped with Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and an automatic brake differential. The CARFAX report shows a replacement engine was installed in November 2002 and a maintenance inspection was completed by Porsche Chandler of Arizona in July 2023. An engine assessment performed by a certified Porsche dealer is located in the photo gallery.  The seller indicates the replacement engine has approximately 300 miles less than the odometer value based on the DME report (see photo #181 in the gallery).

This sale will include a window sticker, owner’s manuals, and a clean title (lien).

@rnak The front driver fender, hood, and spoiler have the spots. I don't see any indication that the Clearcoat is broken down.

  • rnak (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

What panels are all the spots of paint damage shown up close in the gallery? Looks like there are 3 or 4 areas where maybe bird droppings sat and baked in? Clearcoat broke down?

Porsche would know why the engine was replaced. You need to have the dealership make some calls. Thats one of the reason for serial numbers.

It hurts my brain to think a car like this was only driven 12 miles a month.

  • JRobin78 (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

@Urelfer I reached out to the dealership that replaced the engine unfortunately due to the time frame, they did not retain the details. I do know that after the engine was replaced the dealership resold it and that individual owned the vehicle until I came into possession of it last year. I intended to replace the tires if I were to keep the vehicle any longer. I decided to leave them on in case the next owner potentially liked the idea of having the original tires or they might have a preference of the brand/type of tire they want.

  • Urelfer (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

Looks very nice but are the tires on this car really 21 years old? Why would one want to drive a +400 HP car with stone-aged tires? 4 new tires do not cost much. What has been going on with this car? @seller: Do you know more about its history? An engine exchange after approx. 300 miles is pretty rare but of course this can happen. Do you know why the engine had to be replaced? Thanks.
