Now up for auction is this 2003 Porsche 986 Boxster S race car finished in Orient Red Metallic.  Purchased by the seller as a stock example in 2016, this 986 was transformed into a highly competitive racer with track-going safety features and upgrades including an adjustable suspension with Bilstein PSS9 dampers and GT3 control arms, a cold-air intake, Schnell headers, a Fabspeed Supercup exhaust, and much more.  It was first raced in 2017 when it won the PCA Stock F National Championship before being raced at only a few more events in 2018 and 2019.  With just over 67k miles showing on the odometer, this 986 is now being offered for auction with a clean title by its seller out of Vermont.

This example is finished in its factory color of Orient Red Metallic, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX.  Externally, this 986 has been fitted with removable vinyl graphics, a black painted hardtop, and a set of 18" OZ wheels dressed in newer Hoosier H2O tires.

Inside, the cabin has been stripped and converted to a lightweight racing cockpit.  Safety features include a Safety Devices bolt-in cage with welded gussets, an electric kill switch, an OMP fire suppression system, and a Recaro Pro Hans Halo racing seat.  Other additions include a MOMO steering wheel, a Cool Shirt setup, and a transponder.

This Boxster S is equipped with a 3.2 L flat-six engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Performance upgrades include a deep oil sump with windage tray and Accusump accumulator, stainless steel brake lines, a cold-air intake, Schnell headers, and a Fabspeed Supercup exhaust.  The handling has also been improved with an adjustable suspension featuring GT3 control arms, Tarett sway bars and drop links, newer Bilstein PSS9 dampers, and Swift springs.  Professional oil analyses from Blackstone are included in the photo gallery along with compression test results and a dyno test from September of 2020 which shows 243 HP and 215 lb.-ft of torque at the rear wheels.

This sale will include a clean title. If you are eager to hit the track in a highly competitive mid-engine racer, this nicely equipped 986 Boxster S may just be the one you've been looking for.

@LVCMLC-Rx It would depend at least in part on what state you're in. At a minimum I would unbolt the cage, put in different seats, door cards, perhaps airbags, cats for exhaust. You'd probably be better off getting a street car and adding some sporty bits. Thank you.

May I ask, as the car stands today, what would you need to add/subtract for you to legally drive the car on public roads?

  • DarkMagic (seller) 3 yearsago

@damebash I don't have any interior parts, sorry. I get rid of that stuff right away so it doesn't pile up.

Do you happen to have any of the parts that you have removed from the interior of the vehicle?

@LVCMLC-Rx In my experience, the 3.2 is super-reliable. My last one got to 125,000 miles, with heavy track time for the last 30,000. The oil reports are clean, the power is good per the dyno, there are no tell-tale issues with smoke or funny noises, so should run well for seasons to come - no guaranty unfortunately - but good history. Never had a transmission issue with a 3.2 six speed. If the motor or trans were to have issues, junk yard replacements are good value and plentiful. Thanks for your interest!

How many seasons/miles should you expect to get out of an engine before a re-build is in order?

  • DarkMagic (seller) 3 yearsago

@badboss I've posted some qualifying and races on YouTube. If you search "Schindler PCA" several will pop up. If you add "Watkins Glen" or "Lime Rock" you should get qualifying at those venues. If the car's passenger mirror is red, it's this car. If you can't see the passenger's mirror or it's black, then it's me in another car. Best times for me in this car at the Glen, 2:09.3; at Lime Rock, 59.4. You can also see races at those and other tracks. Thank you!

@DarkMagic can you provide any in car video on track to get a sense of the cars abilities?

  • DarkMagic (seller) 3 yearsago

Welcome to the auction. I'd be happy to answer questions.
