Up for auction is this 2003 Porsche 996 Carrera Cabriolet finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black interior.  Featuring a 3.6L flat-six engine that drives the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission, this 996 was also ordered with the Xenon Headlamp Package, Bose High-End Sound Package, heated front seats, and 18” Light Alloy Carrera wheels.  Sold new from Tom Wood Porsche of Indianapolis at an original sticker price over $84k, this Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey showing approximately 8k miles on the odometer.

This 996 comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic with a black cabriolet top, optional Bi-Xenon headlamps, and 18” Light Alloy Carrera wheels.  Clear paint protection film has been applied to the fenders ahead of the rear wheels, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  The factory 18” wheels come fitted with optional colored Porsche center crests and a set of Continental SportContact 2 tires sized 225/40 in front and 285/30 in the rear.

Inside, this black standard leather interior features heated and 8-way power-adjustable seats with driver memory settings as well as the Bose High-End Sound Package.  Standard equipment includes automatic climate control, a CD-storage center console, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, Carrera script door sills, and a Porsche CDR23 radio.

This 996 is equipped with a naturally aspirated 3.6L flat-six engine that sends up to 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission.  Stopping power is handled by fixed four-piston brake calipers paired with cross-drilled rotors front and rear.  Acceleration from 0-60 MPH is accomplished in approximately 5 seconds with a top speed of nearly 180 MPH.  Some maintenance history is provided on the CARFAX report and images of the undercarriage can be found in the gallery.  There is no record of an IMS bearing replacement.

This sale will include a clean title. A well-preserved Porsche 996 Carrera with such low mileage is a rare find, do not let this 6-speed 2003 example pass you by.

@VantageAuto thanks I talked to my next door neighbor he has 135k miles on his he did the bearing at 75k miles. I actually read the last hour and a half about it and talked to him at length. Thanks looking forward to bidding. GLWTA

@Coachmule the IMS is best something you read about on the many articles you can find online. Basically the IMS bearing in Porsches of this era were designed in such a way where they can stay lubricated for a finite amount of time. Should it not be lubricated the bearing can go, resulting in catastrophic motor failure. It remains unknown exactly how many motors this happened to however it is recommended that the IMS bearing be replaced with a bearing that has an updated design preventing it from having this failure.

Please educate me on the IMS, is that the beating problem these cars have ? I’m an old 356 guy but always wanted one of these. I have permission from the wife so I’m safe to bid. GLWTA

@Coachmule I meant to say 2003 500SL Mercedes Benz with 29000 miles on here very soon. If Pcarmarket will delete my last post maybe add an edit button for us late night surfers. Room in the garage for this beautiful car. GLWTA

Is every car I like in New Jersey or New York ? I’m putting my 29000 Mercedes Benz up on here very soon so I’ll have room for this beautiful car. If I’m lucky enough. GLWTA

@Txporsche thank you. We can have the IMS done for $2,300 just the shop we use is a bit backed up

I have almost this exact car (2003 C4 Cab with 36,000 miles). These are awesome cars needing very little maintenance if not tracked. All this one needs is an IMS upgrade for about $3k. This car has little to no wear. Check front seat photos 70,71,72. The cab top is very quiet and the windscreen invaluable. I’ve had four 911’s and this one is by far the best and the most fun to drive. You will not regret owning this great sports car.
    GLWTA.

@Al_Cantara these are not at all pricey and we will include a new wheel center for the next owner. This car did not sell hence why it is now available as the winner of another auction did not follow through.

  • VantageAuto (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

@Altongray buyer never responded to any means of contact so it was made a no sale. It is by no means a reflection of the vehicle

  • Al_Cantara 2 years, 3 monthsago

@gbrandeis Yes, the colored Porsche crests on the center caps are glued in place. At 20 years, the glue is dried out and the center crests tend to fly off at high speed. Not a big deal however new center caps can be a pricey. Used can be found also.

  • gbrandeis (registered bidder) 2 years, 3 monthsago

Is one of the center emblems missing from one of the wheels?

Hello @vantageauto — I thought this car sold on a similar online auction platform earlier this month. Was the buyer a no-show?
