The Porsche 996 Carrera 4S combines naturally aspirated power with body styling, brakes, and an all-wheel-drive system from the 911 Turbo. This 2003 example boasts a 6-speed manual transmission, an Arctic Silver Metallic finish over Graphite Grey full leather upholstery, 18” Turbo Look wheels, and the BOSE High-End Sound Package. This C4S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California while showing under 63k miles on the odometer.

This Carrera 4S showcases wider fenders than a standard Carrera and features Turbo-style bumpers and a distinct reflector band that connects the taillights. Finished in Arctic Silver Metallic, this 2003 example is equipped with 18” 911 Turbo Look wheels dressed in General Tire G-Max tires dating back to 2019. The left rear wheel is reportedly unblemished, and the other three wheels exhibit slight abrasions upon close examination. The seller adds that paint protection film has been applied to the hood, front bumpers, headlight lenses, and mirrors, followed by a full ceramic coating. Additionally, the daytime running lights have been replaced and a new windshield was installed in 2023. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a CARFAX report noting damage in March 2017.

The cabin features Graphite Grey full leather upholstery and includes the BOSE High-End Sound Package. Other features include power windows, an electric sunroof, power-adjustable & heated mirrors, cruise control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The headlight switch has been replaced, and all gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be fully functional. The seller indicates very minimal signs of wear.

Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat-six engine rated at 320 HP and 273 lb.-ft of torque, the Carrera 4S channels power to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The IMS bearing and clutch underwent replacement at 50k miles in February of 2021, and the vehicle has reportedly been kept up to date on routine maintenance. The CARFAX report shows 27 service history entries, and the seller adds that the air mass meter boot and idler pulleys have been replaced under their ownership.

This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, a car cover, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I hope this car will end up with someone who enjoys it as much as I have. It has the classic Carrera look with what I especially like: the wider turbo-look rear and front and the vents in the lower corner of the rear fenders that come with 996.2 4S. It looks good and is fun to drive. I would keep it for years more if I hadn't been tempted to buy a newer car and didn't have room to keep the 4S in my garage. I've owned Boxsters, a Cayman, and an air-cooled 911 SC. I can say that the 4S is a favorite.”

It was rough. Missed one on BaT a week ago. Always has been. Dream of mine to have this exact car. It will be put in my garage, babied like my other cars, and driven proud until my grade school age daughters are old enough to understand and appreciate the provenance of these timeless vehicles. I thank everyone involved!!!

My thoughts as well. Would not be selling it if it were not for the need for garage space. A modern classic.

  • Utahhighlander (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

I mean what else is there to say? Properly maintained, lower mileage, iconic color, full leather and that wide body. A car of hopes and dreams. GLWTA

That video was taken first thing in the morning. The car had been covered and outside overnight in cold, rainy conditions. That is most likely steam from condensation in the exhaust. There is sometimes a small puff when first starting, but the car never smokes after staring out. I was rushed to get the photos and videos out and needed to do what I could in a short amount of time.

  • lookn4aces (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

There seems to be a considerable amount of smoke in the start-up video. Could you tell me if thus is normal for your car? Is that something that happens every time you start it? Does it go away after running for a while? Or is that a unique situation and it normally does not smoke at all?

  • DMP (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@s0ta I don't notice a whine when driving the car or on the video. I do hear a change in tone as the car revs to 4.5-5K, which is the exhaust kicking in. My maintenance shop is very good with cars of all ages and need for bearings has never been mentioned in work to be done now or in the future.

  • DMP (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

@lookn4aces A photo of the IMS bearing work has been posted to the photos section.

  • s0ta (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

On the driving video there's this whine almost like a faded wheel bearing or maybe road noise? Was this ever pointed out during maintenance?

  • DMP (seller) 2 months, 2 weeksago

I've taken a photo of the receipt for the IMS bearing work and have it ready to send, but the usual copy/paste procedure doesn't work for me to attach to the comments box. I have a call out to PCar Market to see how we can do this. Meanwhile, let me know if you want me to send you the jpeg another way. Otherwise, I'll let you know when I hear back from PCar. Regarding your other questions, this was done by the previous owner and I have no information on scoring or scoping. When I bought the car, the seller indicated that the only reason the beariing and related work were done was that it would have been hard to sell without it. Also, the first I learned of any "damage" was when I put it up for auction. I know of no damage and none was reported to me.

  • lookn4aces (registered bidder) 2 months, 2 weeksago

Hi. Would you be able to provide a picture of the receipt for the IMS bearing work? Also, is there any evidence of bore scoring and have you had it scoped? And did the previous owner let you know what the extent of the damage that happened in 2017 was? Thanks in advance for your response.

The 7/3/23 work was a smog check. The mileage is wrong and probably supposed to be 60,681. And, yes, that Hope Ranch drive is a good one and more fun farther on. It was about to rain and I needed to get the video done.

  • Outlogged 2 months, 3 weeksago

    Beautiful car! GLWA.
Your driving video is along my favorite loop home from the beach whenever I'm in SB (but you turned around right when it gets good ;)

There is a Carfax entry on 7/3/23 at 66,861 miles, but the car only has 62,700 miles on it currently. Is this just a data entry error? If so, you may want to look into having that corrected while you still own the car.

  • DMP (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

Good question. Only the halogeb bulb in the headlight unit was replaced. Replacing the whole headlight unit was not necessary. I'd like to add that on a car of this age the headlight lenses are often hazy, discolored, or with micro-cracks. The headlight lenses on this car are crystal clear and I had them covered with paint protection film to keep them that way. Perhaps the whole headlight units were replaced by a previous owner, but have no record of that.

  • divino (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

Sorry for the ignorance, but when it mentions "daytime running lights" were replaced, does that mean the the whole headlight unit? if yes, was it an OEM replacement?

  • DMP (seller) 2 months, 3 weeksago

Yes. The specifics are what I received from the person from whom I bought the car: a receipt from Mario Motorsports in Cedar Park, TX, dated 2/3/2021, and reads "996 105 901 02 EPS IMS Bearing," along with a labor charge and other maintenance work. That receipt and others I have would go with the car. I don't have anything from Carfax.

  • landscapes (registered bidder) 2 months, 3 weeksago

Would you have verification of IMS work ? Car fax ?
    Thanks
    A.N.
