Available for auction is this 2004 Mini Cooper S finished in Dark Silver Metallic over a two-tone Space Grey and Panther Black cloth interior.  Under the ownership of BMW, the Mini brand was reintroduced in 2000 offering a modern representation of the classic three-door Mini Cooper hatchback.  The first-generation R53 “S” model occupied the role as the high-performance variant in the Mini Cooper model range featuring a unique hood scoop, dual center-exit exhaust pipes, and a supercharged four-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. This 2004 example was acquired from its original owner earlier in 2021 and has been upgraded with a Megan Racing coilover suspension, a 15% supercharger pulley kit, a Milltek exhaust system, DDMWorks intake, and more. Now with just under 74k miles showing on the odometer, this Mini Cooper S is being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

The modern first-generation Mini Cooper was designed by Frank Stephenson who was also responsible for styling the Maserati MC12, Ferrari F430, and McLaren P1. This example comes finished in Dark Silver Metallic with a contrasting white roof panel and mirror caps.  The car is said to have always been garage-kept and the seller notes only a few small imperfections commensurate with normal road-going wear.  Additional images can be found in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report. The factory optioned Sport Package adds front fog lamps, a rear spoiler, and Xenon headlights. Upgraded 17″ Mini R90 cross-spoke wheels have been equipped and fitted with 15mm spacers, longer bolts, and new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

Inside, you will find a two-tone Space Grey and Panther Black cloth interior highlighted by a pair of factory sport seats, a painted dashboard, a distinctive central speedometer. The Premium Package adds a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, an onboard computer, and a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel. Upgraded leather shifter and handbrake boots have been installed and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories remain fully functional.

Power comes from a supercharged and intercooled 1.6L Tritec inline four-cylinder engine rated at 160 HP and 150 lb.-ft of torque stock.  The front wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed Getrag manual transmission. Engine upgrades include a 15% pulley kit from Way Motor Works, a Milltek non-resonated catback exhaust system, DDMWorks intake, and Vibra-Technics engine mounts.  Other upgrades include Powerflex control arm bushings and ball joints, Megan Racing rear camber links, Megan Racing coilovers, StopTech street brake pads, slotted rotors, a Way Motor Works 25mm hollow rear sway bar, and a Canton Racing aluminum expansion tank. The CARFAX report highlights services dating back as far as 2004 and the seller notes that an oil and filter change has been carried out within the last six months in addition to a transmission fluid flush, brake fluid flush, new battery, cooling fan, and dipstick.

This sale will include a set of two keys, the original window sticker, owner's manuals, service records, and a clean title. With its retro styling, potent supercharged engine, and high-end upgrades, this 6-speed Mini Cooper S makes a perfect hot hatchback for any driving enthusiast, do not miss out.

@carcraze19 After reviewing the maintenance records, I can confirm that the power steering pump and fan were replaced in April 2018 under a factory recall

  • ATSR (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@carcraze19 Clutch is original with plenty of life left and not showing any problems.
I will go through the maintenance records to see if either the water pump or power steering pump have been replaced, but neither of them are showing any signs of problems at this time.
I’m currently away for the weekend, but will be back home this afternoon and will confirm

How many miles are on the clutch? This was a common problem on these cars. Also has the water pump been replaced and if so, when? Another common issue. Has the PSPump been replaced? If so, when. Another common issue. Thanks

@markbutlerinc To expand a bit more on the suspension comfort, these coilovers have 32 levels of damper force adjustment, and I currently have them set on 10 (32 being the hardest) which is quite comfortable. To adjust them you just need to turn a knob which can be accessed on the fronts by opening the hood, and the rears by opening the little panel door on each side of the trunk. No tools are necessary

@markbutlerinc No interior bits loose or worn. The only part that I replaced was the parking brake boot that had a small tear in it, so I decided to upgrade both the shifter and parking brake boots to leather.
The suspension is still taut but it's not harsh at all. The main difference with the current setup and stock (besides the lower ride height) is that understeer has been completely eliminated. Go kart feeling has been enhanced and improved.

    Nice keep example!

Any interior bits worn or loose (common issue). How’s the ride for street use? The standard suspension is already taut/semi harsh. Any improvement with the aftermarket suspension?

@reinyb Only the surface rust that you can see in some parts of the undercarriage. The previous owner kept the car in the garage and was always his fun/second car, so he never used it in the winter

  • reinyb (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@ATSR any rust, being of northeast origin?

  • ATSR (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@reinyb Yes, stock catalytic converter is still installed

  • reinyb (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Fun car, had a similar one and I miss her. Great visceral driving experience! Is the catalytic converter still on with the current exhaust. I am in California, the land of the smog nazis

@sjg507 Cold start video and undercarriage pics have been posted

  • ATSR (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@sjg507 It really sounds great and they way it pairs up with the supercharger whine is awesome. Initially I was hesitant about the non-resonated version but I’m glad I went with that one. It’s still quite mild and has zero drone

  • sjg507 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@ATSR Thank you. I am curious how the Milltek exhaust sounds.

  • ATSR (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

@sjg507 Will do. Just made the cold start video and will have it uploaded shortly.
I need to find a place with an available lift and will take the undercarriage pics then
