A limited-edition model commemorating 40 years of the Porsche 911, the 2004 Porsche 911 40th Anniversary or “40 Jahre” features a unique appearance with GT Silver Metallic paint, Grey Natural Leather upholstery, a Turbo front bumper, Aerokit side skirts, and shot-blasted 18” Carrera II wheels. Limited to only 1,963 examples, it also includes the X51 Powerkit, M030 Sport Suspension package, a 6-speed manual transaxle, a limited-slip differential, painted hardback Sport Seats, a painted center console, aluminum instrument trim rings, “911” logo door sills, and a serialized commemorative plaque. This example, #834/1,963, was purchased by the seller in 2015 and has been driven less than 10k miles since. It has been fortified with a new clutch and IMS bearing, and upgraded with an IPD intake plenum, an 82 mm throttle body, and a Softronics ECU tune. Showing just over 59k miles on the odometer, this rare 911 40th Anniversary is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

The 40th Anniversary is finished exclusively in GT Silver Metallic paint and features a front bumper from the 911 Turbo, Aerokit side skirts, unique badging, and shot-blasted 18” Carrera II light alloy wheels. Other equipment includes bi-xenon headlights, fog lights, heated power mirrors, an electric sunroof, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and polished dual exhaust outlets. The seller indicates that new Sumitomo tires were installed in July 2024. Noted imperfections include curb rash on the wheels, corrosion around the wheel center caps, a small blemish on the hood, and a small repaired windshield chip near the rearview mirror. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

This limited-edition 911 features Grey Natural Leather upholstery including heated Sport Seats with GT Silver-painted backrests. Other details include a leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel, a GT Silver-painted center console, an Alcantara headliner, aluminum instrument dial rings, an aluminum-trimmed gear knob, “911” logo door sills, and a serialized commemorative plaque ahead of the center console. The driver is also provided with automatic climate control, cruise control, a remote central locking system, a CD stereo, and the Bose High-End Sound Package. The radio buttons have been replaced by the current owner. Some scratches are noted on the driver’s door sill, along with slight wear on the driver’s seat. The seller adds that the thin foam insulation lining the blower box is coming unglued and sometimes blows out the ductwork.

The 3.6-liter M96/03S flat-six is equipped with the X51 Powerkit, which includes revised intake and exhaust manifolds, camshaft profiles, and engine software for a factory-rated output of 345 HP. It drives the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The 40th Anniversary comes standard with Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and M030 Sport Suspension, which adds stiffer springs, shocks, and stabilizer bars. In 2015, this car was modified with an IPD intake planum, an 82mm throttle body, and a Softronics ECU tune. In 2020, the clutch and IMS bearing were replaced along with both front condensers and radiators. The alternator was replaced in 2023, and the most recent routine oil change was completed in June 2024.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

    @marcromano:
This car should sell in the $50k range. I hope the seller is not desperate enough to let it go for less than that.

Yes, some Porsche cars "may" be worth more to a certain person or buyer, but this is not cast in stone. Opinions and values vary. FWIW, a Porsche is still just a Porsche, NOT a Mona Lisa. Exceptions are few and far between - the 917 driven by Steve McQueen/owned by J. Seinfeld , and some others. The market will set the price, not just someone's opinion. Not taking anything away from this car, but "wish" and "sell" may be 2 different numbers. JMO

    @Riley892 I have 3 911's. Don't need another one. But I do want a 2010 sport classic.

This car should sell in the $50k range. I hope the seller is not desperate enough to let it go for less than that.
This car is a classic 911. There is no technology between you and the car. It's a pure driving experience that's very quick, responsive, and pure Porsche.
GT Silver is the best silver on the market. When it's detailed, it's rich and beautiful. I could go on and on, but I will say that the only 911 I would sell my 40th for is a 2010 Sport Classic. It's that solid of a driving experience.

  • mxtr55 (registered bidder) 1 monthago

@marcromano - when you improve the suspension which is the first thing you do before increasing the horsepoer, it makes the car faster, but only on a racetrack. I love the M030 spings as I had them on my first 2004 996 C4. Made car car stand up like "do you want to mess with me?" LOL

Going through the previous comments I thought I had clicked on a random Reddit thread. Great looking car, always loved these 40AE's. (and yes, suspension mods DO increase speed. These cars weren't built to drive in a straight line :)

  • marcromano 1 monthago

@Riley892 I lost you after: "Yes, (marcromano) you are correct, the coilover is not horsepower."

Let's just leave it at that and cut out the rest of the nonsensical gibberish.

  • Hibanking (seller) 1 monthago

I'm also trying to get another start up added that was requested.

  • Riley892 (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Yes, you are correct the coilover is not horsepower. They are for handling allowing for better rebound, lowering to desired height (whiich helps aero some too) but are we drag racing these vehicles or driving them on the street including going around corners, etc.? Even if you are tracking, I would get a lower lap time (faster speed in the corner and exit) with coilover's due to increased handling/feedback, control than some aftermarlet airbox and bolt on for the dollar. If you want horsepower, get a turbo or Mezger engine. I suppose I think of speed as average, over a lap as total as opposed to some straight line gear banging...With a X-51 already in place, I'll work on the old suspension that is ready for a refresh but the beauty of all of this is to eacb their own. Whomever prevails in the bidding can do as they shall. That's why I want to see a DME Report when there are no prior service records to see what was happening in Rev Range 1 and more important, Rev Range 2 and to see that the Total Engine Hours line up with miles. It is easy to change these instrument clusters from another 40 Year vehicle as it seems someone always has one for sale. Same reason I would like to see pics with a paint meter to see what has been refinished becase a CarFax is can be a FarFax from reality as many times, a claim is not submitted. This looks to be a pretty clean 40 Year model which is a terrific version of the 996 so I wish our Seller and all bidders well.

  • marcromano 1 monthago

@Riley892 Coilovers allow you to lower the center of gravity, which can improve handling by making the car feel more planted and reducing body roll. They don't increase speed. Just saying.

Not sure if I saw but are any of the original 4 pieces of luggage included (2 bags, wallet and key ouch)?

  • Riley892 (registered bidder) 1 monthago

These X51’s are pretty balanced in terms of performance, drivability and longevity. Adding exhaust is more for sound than power but is nice like the Fister mod so it’s a definite. If you want to pick up speed/performance and consider what these cars are all about, work on the suspension with coilovers. The age on the existing components make it ripe. Regardless of miles, the old struts are done. If you want to speed up and enjoy, shave time off and add some speed in the corners (coilovers were a Tequipment, Euro-like option ala GT3). A DME Report is important to show what anyone is thinking about building, maintaining or enjoying. A paint meter review would be nice too. I suspect both will reflect nicely but my top bid will need that info.

  • marcromano 1 monthago

@luis.seneriz Thanks, Luis. With all due respect as a Porsche guy, as I understand it, I can change exhaust, air intake, plenum, and other stuff, but I might see a 3 hp gain at 6k rpm. Serious engine mods, however, are a different story. I have 40th #0763, and I prefer to keep it stock. I don't need to go faster than 150 on the Thruway or QEW with an open road, and only once in a while. I see these guys in my city driving their wives to the market on Saturday in a turbo S or GT3, and I wonder where they get to drive them hard and have fun - no nearby tracks.
Be well, and thanks for the good back and forth. Appreciate you. If you do watch that video I sent, I'd be interested in your POV. Cheers.

When I took it out in the sun I didn't like the way the bra looked. So about 8 hours later she's braless. I just took off the fenders and hood facia still on. Eight hours of not picky bs but, came out perfect looks really clean now. Drive around block like a dream. Pics to come. Sunday my last day before work let me know if you need something else

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 monthago

@marcromano, between me and my friends we own ten 996s. All varieties, there are two built 4.0s, one is an FSI engine with over 415 horsepower. Two of my friends can build engines. Anyway, this is a good car, I personally prefer the cable throttle 99. Another friend has a highly modified turbo S. My turbo is on another planet to the point that it doesn’t have good enough brakes for how fast it is. I like this car and I’ll buy it at my price, if it lands on my lap it’ll be modified. Good luck to you in this auction if you are interested in this car.

  • marcromano 1 monthago

@luis.seneriz Just watch the video I sent you and forget the rest. It is comprehensive, maps one mod at a time, combinations of mods, and all mods together, by highly professional and credible people. There are no real gains despite all the false claims. I've spent 2 years looking for it.

But this car is a perfect classic 911 experience, with no mods required. Everyone wants more torque and more power. The 40th is only 30hp less than the 996 GT3, and those well kept GT3s are selling for $120,000.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 monthago

@marcromano I disagree.check with Jake Rabi (FSI) Slakker racing development, hartech etc. The catalytic converters and the mufflers weight a ton. At a minimum you are eliminating weight. Anyway, with all the modifications to my 3/98 cable throttle, it went from 4.9 seconds to sixty to 4.6 seconds to sixty. My car is in the 2700s weigh wise. Yes I seen all the you tube videos about the no gains. Regarding porsche leaving performance on the table, my 03 turbo with the factory exhaust the back pressure was at .36, my current performance exhaust only has .16, the headers on the turbo huge differences. Another little trick reduce rotational mass on the car here, switch to 17 inch wheels and tires, yes you will have less rubber but your straight line acceleration will increase, change the brake rotors for giro discs, etc. I been modifying cars for 43 years, yes there is a lot of hype in marketing, but there is stuff that actually works. This 40’is a great car but I have not doubt it can be faster.

  • samols 1 monthago

@Rat70fj I own 0397, just behind yours. Couldn't agree more, these are a (mostly) undiscovered 996 gem. This one listed for sale is 20 minutes from me.
Never knew there was another 40AE so close, but given the by the seller’s description, it’s understandable never seeing out and about.

  • MC-Leather (registered bidder) 1 monthago

@seller Do you have any more info on the IMS replacement/upgrade?

  • marcromano 1 monthago

@luis.seneriz You cannot add more "umph" without major engine mods. Intake mods actually reduce mid range power and torque, and the gain is maybe 2- 3 hp at 6,000 rpm. Porsche does not leave room for gains through intake mods.

MYTHBUSTED! Do Intake Mods Work? - Motive Garage Porsche 997.1 C2
    Here are the findings: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc9c07qCuKY&t=515s

As for the experience of driving a 40th and its performance, it's very quick, very responsive, and incredibly stable.
This is a mostly analog 911 experience without the added tech between you and the car. It's an exceptional, limited-edition car. #0763.

  • luis.seneriz (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Nice car. To add more umph it needs a Carrera S 3.8 air box, catless X pipe with the cheaters and those heavy mufflers needs to be replaced. Owner put Sumitomos HTRZS, those are great tires at a fraction of the cost of the Michelins, I run those tires on my turbo and my 99. GLWTS

Thanks for all the favorable comments. It really is a great car. I know the 996's get a bad rap but for the money the performance fit and finish is top notch especially in 40th trim.

Sorry to report no factual performance data. I have no idea if it added any horsepower, I assume it added something. But what I did notice immediately is much better performance in 2 and 3 when getting on it. It seemed to pull much stronger. The plan was to add exhaust and short shifter also, but a 240z messed that up.

  • marcromano 1 monthago

@Hibanking I'm hoping you have data on the performance increase from IPD intake plenum, an 82 mm throttle body, and a Softronics ECU tune. Please provide if available. Thanks. If no data is available, I'd love to have your take on it from driving the before and after upgrade. Thanks.

@jonsilvergt #0763 here. Great question. I've been wanting to add HP to mine, but have read nothing from outside sources that provides reliable info.

  • Dcoatock (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

I almost bought this car last year but the seller ultimately wasn't ready. I did a lot of research and due diligence, and it turned out that completely randomly the big work in 2020 was done by a porsche guru that has worked on my cars and my fathers for 25+ years. This car was extremely clean - and owner seemed very particular about keeping it in great shape. I found another one which I love, but this one was great. Also, very rare to have rear wiper and sport seats together - usually people who clicked the rear wiper box also clicked the non-sport seats. GLWA. These drive completely differently than a regular 996.2, the x51 and LSD really make it feel even more special.

  • Riley892 (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Looks like as far as options go, Bose and Rear Window Wiper and likely had the Natural Grey Mats (that are likely long since worn out). Standard Sport Seats (a plus). No navigation (not that anyone wants it these days as they ignore it or swap out for PCCM Plus). These are nice cars.

  • jonsilvergt 1 month, 1 weekago

Any idea what power was added with the plenum, throttle body, and tune ? Nice 40th. Special cars.

  • Rat70fj 1 month, 1 weekago

Perfect spec 40th. Looks like no options, (there were only about four available) so it has the sport seats. A big plus. 2950 lbs with a conservative 345 HP. Great power to weight ratio. Owner of #0398 here.

  • Hibanking (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

Good evening to the PCM community seller here. Please ask if you have any questions. This is a very straight and clean 40th.

I had a little trouble uploading the photos as some got lost in the transmission. The plan is to get them done on Friday, undercarriage, some reciepts, radiator change, tires etc. If there are any requests let me know.

The car spends most of its life sitting in the garage under a cover. I put new tires on last July and haven’t drove it 20 miles since then. It always starts right up and runs great. I feel guilty seeing it sit there. Somebody need to enjoy it. I have a couple other project cars that eat up all my time.

I’ve tried to describe it as best as possible but feel free to ask what you want to know.

    Thanks for looking
