The Porsche 40th Anniversary 996 was produced to commemorate 40 years since the introduction of the first 911 in 1963. Limited to 1,963 examples, each 40th Anniversary Edition featured a GT Silver Metallic finish over a Natural leather interior, the front fascia of the 911 Turbo, a limited-slip differential, Sport Suspension, the X51 Power Kit, special polished wheels, and other unique details. Having spent much of its life in Colorado, this example is now being offered for auction by its second owner on the East Coast showing approximately 49k miles on the odometer.
Finished in GT Silver Metallic, the 40th Anniversary 996 showcases distinguishable styling cues including a front fascia from the Turbo, GT3-style flared rocker panels, polished exhaust tips, and 18” Carrera II lightweight polished wheels. Additionally, a special ’40 Jahre 911” designation is fitted to the rear decklid. The seller notes paint protection film has been applied to the front end and mirrors, the front license plate holder has been removed, and some minor imperfections are present. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.
The cabin is appointed with Natural Grey leather and features the optional matching floor mats and Comfort Seats with Power Package. Exclusive 40th Anniversary Edition details include aluminum-finished instrument dial rings, an Alcantara headliner, door sills with the “911” insignia, and a console limitation plate bearing the car’s limited-edition number of 327. Other factory options include the Bose High-End Sound Package and a remote 6-disc CD changer. The seller adds that all gauges and accessories are working properly, and slight signs of wear are noted. The 996 40th Anniversary Edition is equipped with the Exclusive X51 Power Kit which brings the output of the 3.6-liter flat-six engine up to 345 HP, an increase of 25 HP over the standard 996 Carrera. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission which provides a 0-60 time of approximately 4.5 seconds. The X51 Power Kit includes a valvetrain upgrade, cast-aluminum intake manifolds with a modified cross-section, and a remapped engine tune. This special edition also comes standard with Turbo radiators, a limited-slip differential, and Sport Suspension. The CARFAX report shows a service carried out by an authorized Porsche dealer within the last 300 miles.

Porscheguy32 is horribly misinformed about IMS failures. Porsche lost an expensive class action law suit over the issue. With as much exposure as the issue has received, it is almost inconceivable that an IMS bearing has been replaced with no documentation to support it.
I own a 2003 C4 Cab which has been upgraded with receipts and stickers on the car engine compartment. The failures can and do occur without warning. The expense is prohibitive. It is insane to take a $20-30k risk over a $3-4k insurance policy to ensure the integrity of the car.

IMS failure NEVER happen, go talk to some dealers. It all a hype to sell product, nothing new.

I know a guy who only had front seats in his 911 and could not back then find a kid's seat. So, he developed a contraption where he duck taped his one-year-old to the front seat until his wife caught him one day and forced him to sell the car.

@kaveh5000 - when my son was born, my DD was a 991.1 and ONLY the Cybex would fit as an infant rear facing seat. Dad had to have a WHOLE OTHER car seat system than mom due to the 911 obsession.

@Nehmaiz I assume you have knowledge of the market value of these 40AE's which is 2x the current high bid.
Suggest you not let it go for anything that isn't very close to that. Each one that has sold over the past two years has done so close to or greater than market value. 40AEs continue to appreciate. It can be considered an investment as opposed to a liability.
On the subject of Dads and children loving dad’s “angry” car, I recommend the hifold car seat (amazon). It fits perfectly in the back seat and is easy to install/remove. Sharing this because i went through a couple until i found a good fit! Good luck bidding!

@SilverRose Great note from a great dad. I appreciate you. I too am a dad to a young one and she loves taking road trips with me and "our" Porsche.
As for the 40AE, there is nothing I don't like about it and nothing I wish it had that it doesn't. #0763 currently has 25k miles. It fits like a glove when I'm in it. It's quick and responsive. The M030 is a bit stiff as you would guess. Handling is very tight. I prefer the mostly analog experience. It's so light that 345HP is plenty for this car. I've looked into tuning and chipping it to see if it's possible to get 20 or 30 more hp cause I'm always trying to push everything to another level. Nothing found as of yet. But it doesn't need it. It has a classic 911 design even though it was a big step from the 993, and the color is rich. So as performance goes, overall it's a great and fun car to drive. Could have gotten a 997 and glad I didn't. Avoided a GT3 since I'm not tracking and road traveling long distances much and it seemed to be too much car for daily driving. It deserves more. Love what I have and it slowly continues to appreciate. Cheers.

@SilverRose Thank you for your comments, I've driven a 996 GT3 back in 2013 (never owned one) and the thing that I think the 40th anniversary has similar to the GT3 is the steering weight and feel. I'm pretty sure if you drive them back to back they would be very similar in that regard, but in terms of drivetrain and power delivery they would 100% differ.
Looks like I don't have the receipt for the last service, I uploaded everything that the previous owner sent me... and I honestly did not notice that there's a receipt missing. I think if you call the Porsche service center they would be able to give you more details. I am traveling at the moment and don't have access to the car, I've asked my neighbor to send me pictures of the date codes, I will post them as soon as he sends them through.
@Nehmaiz - sorry, what's on the car for tires and what are the date codes/miles on them please?

@marcromano - I've owned (and own) multiple G bodies, 996, 991, 997, 964 (only NOT owned a 993 or long nose) and there is no "single winner" to me. Each has their +/-. The interiors are not the strong suit on the 996, but they are a nice "vintage/modern" balance - eg:, to me they "drive small" and "steering is OG Porsche" AND they have AC that works (unlike my small vent G body). All leather and the special leathers helps the 996 interiors a lot.

@Nehmaiz @marcromano - As someone who just SOLD a 996 GT3, don't maybe wish you had that not a 40th. It was "more car than I needed" from a performance standpoint, it only "drove angry" AND after it doubled in the last 3 years I started thinking about the value too much w/ each stone chip. Most importantly, no back seats, so could not enjoy w/ my boy on Sundays who is old enough to go to cars and coffee w/ dad now (wasn't when I bought it). SO, I'm HOPING the 030 package and the power package make it "performance enough" and the limited edition make it "special enough" without being as "hardcore" as the GT3 (I can admit it was more car than I can handle).

For four months I searched for my first 911. I Iooked at 997's, 963's, and 996's.
18 months of owning 0763 have been an awesome experience. It ticks every box for me from performance, responsiveness, design, color, speed, an analog experience, and an investment that continues to appreciate. When it's detailed, it's absolutely beautiful. When I'm in it, I feel like I'm part of it. Sure, I would rather have a club sport, a GT3, or a GT2, but the 40AE is a pure classic Porsche 911 experience that I can never get enough of. A boy's dream come true.

@skywalker27612 - photos 49 &50, if you zoom in you can see more details where the chips are located.
@skywalker27612 the paint chips are on the front bumper. The front bumper does not have a clear bra/ppf. Only the hood, fenders and mirrors. Rest of the car has no paint chips, there is a very light scratch on the engine deck lid that is not visible in photos. Detailer said that will go away with paint correction.
Can you please comment on paint chips. I see a cluster of them in one picture. Where is that body panel? How is the rest of the car. I see a clear bra at front. Any behind clear bra? Thx

@skywalker27612 - Unfortunately this car did not come with the luggage, I do have a full luggage set from another 40AE I have, I can sell it separately if the new owner of this car wants a set.

just saw the sellers note in his post stating " I find it totally understandable for the prospective buyer to treat it as IMS not done."
That's a fair and honest statement and is appreciated. Treat it that way and get it confirmed before you drive it very much. It's an awesome driving car, quick, responsive, beautiful design and color. A pure classic 911 that continues to appreciate in value if cared for.

Would be nice to get some type of confirmation that the IMS bearing was changed. To assume is not recommended in this case. If the bearing goes the engine goes, and that's a $30,000 + bad assumption. I'm not going to say here that's it on the seller, but if he doesn't know for certain, then he should state he really doesn't know and then a buyer is informed.

I had the same problem with IMS verification in my 2000 911 Millennium.
Fortunately, my Porsche tech was able to verify by seperating transmission from the block just enough to see the rear of the bearing and the bolt that holds it in. Took photo of the LN plate and the 12pt bolt head. 2 hrs labor and peace of mind. Not a bad deal!
@audios22 Thank you for your nice comment. Clutch is still strong and release point is identical to my other 996s with IMS done. The seals have been replaced and receipts for that are available in the gallery.
Best way to ease your mind and bid with confidence is arrange a Pre-purchase inspection. I’m ? certain the workshop will give the clutch a green light.
Yes the car has partial ppf on the front end and mirrors, I will upload paint meter readings in a bit.

Nice example of a 996 Anniversary. Shame there's no paperwork on the IMS replacement. And wonder too if the clutch is needing replaced along with all the seals. GLWTA. Ai may bid myself.
Hello & welcome to this Porsche 911 40th Anniversary Auction!
A little background on the car - I am the second owner, Original Owner had the car for ~18 years, He traded the car in at Carmax, and at that time I was working for Carmax. I had the car inspected and transferred it to Florida.
After I received the car, I found a pair of expensive sunglasses as well as original Pink Floyd CDs. Along with those items, there was an insurance document with the previous owner’s address, so I went ahead and mailed them to him, and asked him if he had the service records. To my surprise he replied and sent me the full service history, which I attached in the email. I also have the original paperwork which will be included in the sale.
The previous owner’s email states that the IMS was done, but the original clutch was left in place. Unfortunately, I found no sticker or paperwork to prove that. I took his word for it, because I had already purchased the car and he had no reason to lie to me. I find it totally understandable for the prospective buyer to treat it as IMS not done.
I personally changed the battery, oil & filter when I received the car.

Pre-Purchase Inspections are very welcome! Car had one done recently and the only comment made by the workshop is that it has a cracked plastic undercarriage cover, which I have included a photo of.
